Subject: Poser Normal map weirdness

I am wondering if anyone has any more clarity on this one... I have baked a normal map for a prop, and it looks fine in other programs, like in 3d-coat (Other than that it needs some slightl cleanup, but that's a different story)

But when I apply it in Poser, it goes completely crazy

The map itself looks "normal" (pun only slightly intended)

But as I load it in Poser, as a tangent space map, the material preview looks really bizarre too

Anyone knows what this is all about? I am using PP2012

I am also wondering, which Poser version and up supports normal maps?

Thanks!

Okay, first, the black needs to be turned into a blue normal map. Also make sure your map is set to Gamma 1 when you import the image. Normals should always be set to Gamma 1.

Check out this thread page as it goes a bit more in depth. 😉

Have a creative day!

Well it sure looks better now. With black you mean the empty space between UV islands right? And with gamma, the gamma setting in the render options?

Looks like the channels are right too (Right angles) I tested it with a single lightsource to be sure Now it's time to move forward to more baking and texture cleaning. Thanks for the help :)
