Subject: Animate a thick object

Is it possible in VWD to animate a thick object? For example, if I modeled a quilt as a blanket that had some thickness to it, can I drape it, without losing the thickness? I think there may be a solution in this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zggjPFzI6XQ, using the chain, since the chain links must have some thickness, and they do not flatten when the simulation is run...but I can only watch and not understand what he is saying.

Thanks!

Hello 3doutlaw,

Sorry for these videos in French. I promise you to make the new videos in English even if my accent will be horrible. I think this solution will help more.

If you want to simulate a blanket with a thickness, I think you can generate two meshed planes separated by a small distance. Then you can rigidify these planes as you want and then, you can use a rigidification by neighborhood using a distance that will only link the vertices of the two planes, 2 by 2 with a very low value (0.001 for instance).

The simulation will simulate the 2 planes like one but will keep the distance between the two planes.

Tell me your results, I will make some tests myself.

OK, I am new to using this, but I will try to do something like that. The Quilt/Blanket was just to give the idea.

Ideally what I am after is to use dynamics on a hair that has thickness, like these...so they don't flatten out when a simulation is run

For me, there is no problem. One of the videos have been made with hair which has a mesh like the one you gave me as link.

I will tell you the name of this hair.

I you want to try, it is necessary to use a rigidification by neighborhood but with high value (low rigidification), perhaps 0.3.

Do you have the specific link to the video, so I can tell which video it is?

This hair is "Melitte hair". You have to look at the mesh to see its structure.
