I use Poser 13 and win 10
I started cursing! I'm not a fan of splash screens, and in a number of software apps I use, I can turn them off. Boy do I wish Poser had that option. ~hmmmmmph~

OK . . . Where's my chocolate?
Oh I have no complaints about it being LF, I'm just not ready for an anime figure that's "shoved in my face". Maybe if they had used a more considerate image that didn't blind you when you saw it, I might not have had a complaint. Maybe a different color scheme for the splash screen would work better.
Hmmmm, an image with both LF and LH . . . hmmmm. Now THAT wouldn't be bad at all.

I think the worst part of it was that I didn't even see the 'Poser 12' title on that screen. It just says 'Anime Girl'. The heck, I thought first...
Something like... "Don't worry: you've jus started Daz Studio v12.0" ?

Sure do not like the idea that they start to access Installed poser on a machine and change stuff without letting you decide weather you want an update or not ! This sounds like the free Android apps that places adds on your Phone and you end up with a big load of garbage. Another good reason avoiding Programs that need to be connected online !
This splash screen is sure forced Publicity on your computer for a new product release , not funny at all ! wonder what is coming next ending up with store adds on poser start up ?

Not only that . . . they left the text about your version and license in the bottom left corner in white, and you can't read it. That was for the previous dark/black background. Actually, with that Anime render they used, it's too busy to even be able to see it if they had changed the text to black. ~shakes head~

To be clear, in reaction to some renarks above: I don't object to the promotion. In fact, Poser needs to promote it's content that is older than a figure that came out over 10 years ago. But in my opinion, it looks crowded, there is no product info on it, and while the render is lovely, it is missing how a program starter screen should look like. You know, to say the program's name, not the asset's.
It's advertising fluff that looks tacky on a serious software startup screen. If anything it isn't indicative of a "Poser Pulse Growing" but rather a "Poser is incredibly insular software that's attached to a store with trending products"... Figure if somebody loads Poser 12 five years from now what would they care about some legacy product for La Femme? Or perhaps the splash screen is now becoming a rotating advertisement space? Or maybe just a new advert for each update? Who knows? Weird.
It's not the imagery itself that's jarring, although I think the color palette choice should have been more subdued to match or complement the actual interface mood, pretty sure Poser 12 doesn't have a watercolour interface option... yet lol, it's the text. Just seems strange.
Growing pains I guess.
Since Poser really wants us to buy this Anime Girl Product, here's my impressions of the product strictly from looking at the page and the advertisements. I plan on purchasing it btw, but not because it looks "Anime". The morphs themselves don't scream anime to me, in fact they look like La Femme morphs with a bit more of a toony bias. La Femme is easier to make look toony than realistic. Her dials support this. In particular the pro facial fearure scaling dials. Her resolution out of the box supports this. Her facial structure is toony by default. Her jawline, ears, etc are difficult to morph away from that toon look. It seems strange that these are HD morphs since HD morphs are really the only way to move more towards realism with the figure. I'm not seeing a real Anime feeling from the imagery other than the shaders. I'm wondering if the creators have taken a serious look at the work of say Range Murata, Shunya Yamashita, or Satoshi Konn... its seems to be the range of stylization that they were aiming for but not quite getting. I'm just seeing a toonier version of La Femme.
Just my opinions in the face of the barrage.
One last thing and then I'll shut up. Nerd, Blackhearted, and Ilona get an A+ for trying something different with this product and appealing to a user base that might perhaps be neglected, and more options for the flagship figure are always nice. With this product it's certainly easier, for those who wish to, to customize more towards a range of imagery that might be more appealing to their tastes.
Don't think it needs to on the software splash though. People who enjoy Anime and that style of art will certainly find the product without being force fed it.

I wonder if we will be seeing regularly changing splash screens as a way to advertise content. I have no problems but there will be others who feel otherwise as an invasion of privacy.
Rotating splash screens could be fun. Otherwise you get tired of seeing the same image. That said, the splash screen should more prominently identify the program that is opening. And I can't say this particular image is very compelling. It feels more like an advertisement for particular content than something that shows off what Poser can do.
Content Advisory! This message contains profanity
Seriously !!?? all this is not professional, more like a "kindergarden" ! feeling ashamed on where Poser is leading to. Thinking it could not get worse? There are still some professionals using Poser for there work ! And I do not think that they think it is funny getting random ad splash screens !
Many cultures interpret Anime manga in different way's some could even see it as Podophilic advertisement it sort of also attracts these if we are looking at it in a serious way! You could of named it "Comic girl" sounds more like a action hero to me, but well if this community rather wants to step into manga hentai then go ahead. This whole stuff is really disgusting me but that's me !
Remember the scandal " diapers for V4 " man that sure was a story if I recall it first was released here then pulled from the store and ended up for a while at RDNA. Not sure, it is already a while ago that it happen but this is getting even worse. ( so why did this release end up as a scandal it was just a pair of Diapers ) See every individual take things in a different way some could take this act as a "affront" not just because it is an anime but already by changing the splash screen by force!
I think bondware thought to be a little dramatic so why not be also a little dramatic about this dramatic act :)

Heh. BUT, they added the Poser 12 logo and title now...yay!
I just reopened P12, and yes the Poser 12 logo helps, but the text at the bottom left about version and license still can't be read easily in white.
I still don't like it because I feel like they're shoving her in my face. That would be a nice gallery render, but for a software's splash screen? No way!! If they want to use Anime, they should get a proper render done of her just once in a more sedate pose.

I don't know anything about coding whatsoever but seeing as Poser is online wouldn't it be interesting if a monthly splash screen were made possible wherein various Poser artists of different disciplines and styles could have their work featured there. Sort of like the gallery only as a part of Poser. Not certain if that's a far fetched idea but it just popped into my head and seemed like an interesting prospect.
.....what? wasn't that supposed to be the patch so that tesla cards work still/again?

I mean, srsly, if we want to showcase anything, this is a Poser 7 figure, SimonG2, ran through EZSkin and rendered with Superfly, no postwork. Old figure, newest software iteration. Boom.
That's SimonG2? Damn he looks good. I especially like the lighting. Nicely done Rhia!

Miss B, I agree on that about a render that doesn't, again, look like one done in 2015 or earlier. If this is a software that supposedly can do renders with PBR, why the h*ck are we not seeing those capabilities in ads?
A very good question. You would think they'd take advantage of an option like that.

That was my first thought when I saw the new splash screen: they have previously inserted a few lines of code that were checking an online URL, waiting for something to appear, and displaying the default one in case there were nothing.

SOLUTION - for now
I'm absolutely not a fan of this move at all. I did find you can prevent it from happening on future launches though if you go to the image file and make it Read Only (Windows). Not sure how to do this on Mac. Lock the image? But it prevents it from being used and will restore the original splash (for now). I could not solve it by deleting the image or changing the image w the same file name, because it re-downloads it at every launch, but read only seems to be the band-aid workaround for now. Every time you update though you will need to do this again.
On Windows the image is located at C:-Users-___yer yooozer name here___-AppData-Local-Temp-Poser-12-
(using dashes because slashes get hidden on forum posts)
It will have some crazy file name like "GTdiykRsWM6csaLYx1x68ILPDDXvYMJNZZZNVFpT.jpg"
Right click it, go to Properties, then click 'Read Only' to enabled it. Apply, and hit OK. Future launches after doing so should load up the old splash.

guess it will be the best solution for the future to just put the whole Poser Installation folder sub folder and files as write protected ( Read Only ) this way it can't be manipulated through a external port. A simple add blocker and for the ones who placed there own startup splash they can keep it :) and other stuff !

But won't Poser stop working if it can't phone home? You can't keep it blocked forever.
Interesting that it goes back to the old splash screen, though. Sounds like what Primorge and Y-Phil said is correct: the splash screen is going to be an ever-changing ad, with the old splash screen as the default if there isn't one.
