Subject: Cylindrical mapping question

HARBINGER-3D ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2002 at 10:09 AM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 1:56 AM

Um, why when I have a cylindrical shaped model and select the cylindrical mapping mode for the shader and use a texture map, does the texture map stretch out and distort at the edges - shouldn't it go smoothly around the cylnder? What am I missing here?

Sorry - not at the moment.

Make sure your mapping direction is aligned with the physical direction of the cylinder. In RDS, at least, the default is aligned with the Z axis; if you created the cylinder in the freeform modeler, it's default alignemtn is along the Y axis. If you don't change the mapping mode's alignment, you'll get all sorts of distortion. Hope this helps! - Dex

Also make sure that your t-map is in the same proportions as your model.
