Hi H2 I started playing with the Golden Hardy and i'm havin prollems with smoothing I converted the greymap you posted back to 1200x1200 in Photoshop and the applied Gaussian blur.( in the above image "Blurred" means applied Gaussian blur in Photshop) Then launched Bryce(one of my favorite things to too :)~) and took a lattice into the terrain editor, set the grid to max rez and clipped the bottom it looked a little rough so I smoothed it but i'm still not getting the "Very" smooth, polished look the you got .(In the image above" Smoothed" means smoothed in Bryce) when I reformatted I lost the email you sent me and I'm going on memory, Am I missing a step? thanks in advance Hawkfyr

Hi Hawkfry, F3nix said you were looking for me.Looks like you're off to a good start. Firstly the grey seems to have lost quite a bit in the jpeg compression. The image on bottom left has too much blur/smthng. See how the holes have gotten too big, although it looks best. Hawkfyr the lattice looks too thick. Scale it down on the 'Y' axis so that the mount for the handle is raised very slightly. What you see there is not the handle.Scaling down should get rid of most of those little bits and peices. Remember this is one of about ten parts that make up the reel and they are all very thin. I think your biggest problem is the grey. See you later this evening..H2

Thanks H2, now when you say scale it down do you mean in the working window with the scaleing tool or with the clipping bracket in the terrain editor? I also thought that there might have been some loss in the jpeg compression, the above greys were converted from jpeg to tiff. do you have a preference of formats to use when doing this kinda work? should I blur less and clip and smooth more in Bryce? H2 I really want to thank you for helping us all with this. Hawkfyr

Hi Hawkfyr, I hardly ever use the clipping bracket except for type or if I want to get a crisp sharp lattice. One of the main reasons I use lattices is because there will always be some irregularities, and this, to me, adds to the realism I'm trying to acheive.I could just as easily create that reel with booleans, but then it would be too perfect. So be willing to accept some imperfection here....You can lower the lattice in the terrain editor, and then scale down in working window. Not sure what you mean by the 'working window'. I always do my editing in windows 2,3,4,5....I hardly move or edit anything in the main window. I prefer to use uncompressed tiffs for the greys. I work for a printing company and they prefer tiffs so I have gotten used to using them and they seem to give me the best results....Any more questions..just ask and if I can help I'm happy to do it.....Cheers H2

Thanks H2, I work in all views also I guess when I say working window I mean any view(2,3,4,ect.) in the main interface ... not in an editor. for instance I can make ... oh say ..sky adjustmenst from the main working area but I perfer to do my skies in the sky editor. along the same lines I can manipulate scale from the scaling tool in the working area or from within the terrain editor. so tiffs are a good choice...okay. Thanks again i'll be working on this more tonight and I'll contact you if needed Hawkfyr
