Description

Credits: Background by : Fairiegoodmother - At DeviantArt Model by:mjranum-stock - At DeviantArt Thanks everybody for all support to my last post. thumb_2243494.jpg Hi dear Friends: For some time now, there has been a growing controversy here at RR regarding ratings, comments, and related issues. Now, such discussions seem to have escalated to the point where even some of the artists that I admire enormously have begun to express the view that, for some reason or another, to comment or rate images, to create symbiosis and friendship with others by regularly exchanging posts on each other's works is something negative that we should be ashamed of. Indeed, it would appear that popularity is something bad or can only be obtained by one being bad (e.g., if an artist is popular it is because he/she is a mediocre artist who comments on many images in exchange for comments in return). Though I can understand the motivation underling such views, they are seriously warped. Renderosity is a space where the whole purpose if for people to view, comment, evaluate, and rate each other's work. It is about creating an online community of artists. The time spent seeing and commenting an image is a token of appreciation and incentive more than anything else. Of course, there are some cut-n-paste messages which are not the kind of thing one ideally would want, but even in this case one should not automatically consider that they are careless or just self-interested pseudo-praise, for they can be simply the consequence of lack of time or even lack of knowledge of the language. We can't assume that all such posts or their authors are morally bankrupt. The same goes for posting a comment on somebody's work as a reply to a comment given to your own work, that is to say, it is usually just common courtesy, not the purchasing of popularity. Values are being mixed up here. It is important to note that, if one thinks that popularity, position in the charts, being artist or vendor of the month, and so forth, are of no importance or value, why not simply ignore those things altogether? Why is there a need to go through the effort of broadcasting, discussing, or even campaigning against them? Good art is the synergistic result of hard work, popularity, creativity, intelligence, and, above all else, sensitivity and humbleness. It is a social and cultural process, as much as a technical and inspirational one. There actually are some shameful things going on at RR, but they are of another nature. They have to do with the deception of posting comments praising someone's work only to, behind their backs, give them a poor rating on the said work, doing so without ever offering any sort of constructive criticism. They also have to do with making malicious comments meant simply to put down an artist, or being so proud of oneself as to believe that if you are not on the top it is only because you have been unfairly short-changed by lesser artists who bargain for votes. These are the types of things that we should be wary of, not the legitimate bonds of friendship, politeness, respect, and admiration that make this virtual community so successful among digital artists. Putting people down simply because they post comments or are socially engaged is just as bad as picking on them for not posting at all or staying to themselves: one has no right to do either of those things. Thank you again for all your support and friendship, without which I would not have learn all that I have and continue too! Have a Great week Monica

A very beautifully arranged photo manipulation, Monica! I love all the elements, colors and essense of this one! Quite charming and happy looking! I agree with you all the way on your comments about the pettiness that becomes apparent when people give more importance to ratings than content and quality of artistic accomplishment! I really think that values have been mixed up here and they need to take a long look at what they are doing to themselves and others by their unkind acts!

Felice settimana ! Agree on everything you say, dear Monica. Personally, I found great people here, as well as great artists and I think this is an important thing. Wonderful picture, as always, (six of my favorites has always been, and not by chance). Composition f,characters, colors and light are at the highest levels. It does not hurt the great creativity. Happy week!

First of all...your image is beautiful, as always, your are one of my favorite artist....with that said...I agree 100% with you, I don't rate any images anymore, and if I do give a one, two, or three word comment, it is because of time, and so many others to get too, I LOVE viewing all of everyone's art. They inspire me one way or another. I am on this sight because I LOVE art, in all it's forms. Again, I agree 100% with you. I don't expect to make any charts, and very happy for those who do, I just love creating....and making friends here, which I have made several really good ones! I hope you have a GREAT Labor day my friend! Big (((HUGS))) to you for speaking out on this subject, I do totally admire you!

Your art, as always, Monica, is superb, and your words are eloquent. Very, very well said, my dear friend! For me, the whole reason for remaining here at Rendo is that it is a place to interact with like minded folks - folks that enjoy creating and looking at art as much as I do. Persnally, I couldn't give a hoot if I ever make the 'art charts.' The 20 - 35 or so comments I get on average are more than I ever thought I would get when I first joined Rendo in '09. The friends I have made here, and the interaction, sharing of ideas and inspiration are far more meaningful to me. For those that consistantly make the art charts (most of whom are my friends), I can say congratulations, and enjoy it! There is a reason they are there, and I do not believe it is because they are 'buying votes' so to speak. Keep on rockin' and renderin' my friends!

Orlando

NOSSA MONICA ESTA OBRA É UM SONHO, AMO COMO VOCÊ USO A MULHER O BACKGROUND É MARAVILHOSO,É LAMENTÁVEL QUE COISAS ASSIM ACONTECEM AQUI ONDE TODOS SOMOS ADULTO PARA ESTAR FAZENDO ESTE TIPO DE COISAS E TER INVEJA DOS ARTISTAS QUE VÃO PARA O ART CHARTS CADA UM MERECE UM LUGAR NESTE SITE,SOMO PESSOAS LIVRES PARA COMENTAR E ADD AS IMAGENS QUE GOSTAMOS,E CADA ARTISTA TEM UM JEITO ÚNICO DE COMENTAR. EU QUERIA PODER COMENTAR TODAS AS OBRAS DA RR MAS NÃO TENHO TEMPO ENTÃO SEMPRE QUE POSSO DEIXO MEUS COMENTÁRIOS. PENSO QUE OS COMENTÁRIOS SÃO UMA FORMA DE AGRADECER A VISITA DE OUTRO ARTISTA EM SUA GALERIA, E UMA FORMA DE INCENTIVAR QUE POSSAMOS FAZER CADA VEZ MELHOR NOSSAS IMAGENS. BEIJOS QUERIDA AMIGA CONTE SEMPRE COMIGO.

This is a beautiful image! You have spoken well and truthfully. I comment when I feel moved to do so and am reluctant even to give constructive criticism because artists' creations are a part of themselves and posting what they've created opens a door they might be reluctant to open in the first place. Maybe I'm too sensitive...lol. It would be nice if one of my images made it to the top of the charts, but if it never happens, it's not the end of the world.

Well said Monica,I agree with you 100% :I comment and rate as it suits me and no one should decide what I think is good Art, there must be room for all of us,whether we get many comments or give many comments. I'm not posting very often but enjoy visiting other people's Galleries and I do not write long comments on each image but give my sympathy and recognition of people's work .... envy is the root of all evil, why not just enjoy all the good work people are doing here :) Lovely scene and work ** Hugz and have a nice day***

YOU GOTTA FRAME THIS--I mean--blow it up and you just GOTTA FRAME THIS--it is so beautiful!!! OMG, I love it Monica--this is one of my all time faves....magnificent piece--exceptional even. The comp the use of light and empty space--the colors and renaissance posing and treatment. The romance and the colors-- 10 plus plus plus! In regards to your post--Bravo--people should be as engaged or not engaged as they want to be here. I am here simply to enjoy others art I do not judge those who comment or fail to comment, in fact, I am fans of quite a few folks who have never commented on any of my stuff... I am not concerned with trivialities. That said I am always happy and grateful when people stop by and comment--what creator wouldn't be? Besides a good friend made a point and I am inclined to agree and follow her lead. She said that when we criticize are we seek to tell the artist what they should be saying as opposed to listening. We cannot be the mind of the artist otherwise we take away their own unique voice. Indeed any of us could find a 101 ways to tell a visual story. We can only appreciate or not appreciate their work. Now if someone wants technical pointers that is altogether different but I only offer if asked. As for people squabbling over who does what and gets what--just sounds like petty high school jealousies which many of us should be well past...

Wow Monica, that was a GREAT Commentary, with heart, emotion and thoughtful meaning. I barely have time to render so if there are things going On I have NO clue, as I'm so thankful for the few comments i get and the help i've received from those that have shared with me... I'm never going to consider my self an artist, but I'll always consider myself a lover of art... Great render, with a well thought out composition, love the lighting and the character.... the Colors work so well. Great post in every way!!! and from your characters body expression, she could care less about the comments, she is in a world of beauty, one you created Well!

Very lovely image Monica love the flow in this.. excellent!!! I have to agree I don't know what the big deal is about charts, ratings etc, turned of my ratings ages ago and I now don't rate those that leave it on, after all the moaning and whinging I don't want to offend anyone lol.. I often would rate with a 4 rather than a 5 because I think maybe that person could come out with an exceptional piece and then I can give it a 5.. If rating with 5 all the time then what rating do I give them for this exceptional piece of work? I'm here for the art not to be in the art charts etc and if I did for some unforeseen reason get there so what!! No prizes are given are they? Love to be amongst fellow artist that if they give me a great comment on a piece that is enough praise for me I feel then that my work was an ok piece then and if they favour it then.. thank you so much .. Lets get back to being a friendly community of artists not some touchy freely group of whining moaning brats... Love your work Monica and your friendship keep it up my friend!!

Hi, I am not on here enough nor am I known of enough to have noticed any of the awful things people are doing to others, but similar things happen at Desktop Nexus a similar site which you post wallpapers. I think no matter where you are in the world or what your doing there will always be people who do such things. They are best ignored. They mean nothing. They're like the bullies in the school room and need to grow up! It's jealousy rearing it's ugly head. Now on to your art. Beautiful!
