Description

Credits: Background by : Fairiegoodmother - At DeviantArt Model by:mjranum-stock - At DeviantArt Thanks everybody for all support to my last post. thumb_2243494.jpg Hi dear Friends: For some time now, there has been a growing controversy here at RR regarding ratings, comments, and related issues. Now, such discussions seem to have escalated to the point where even some of the artists that I admire enormously have begun to express the view that, for some reason or another, to comment or rate images, to create symbiosis and friendship with others by regularly exchanging posts on each other's works is something negative that we should be ashamed of. Indeed, it would appear that popularity is something bad or can only be obtained by one being bad (e.g., if an artist is popular it is because he/she is a mediocre artist who comments on many images in exchange for comments in return). Though I can understand the motivation underling such views, they are seriously warped. Renderosity is a space where the whole purpose if for people to view, comment, evaluate, and rate each other's work. It is about creating an online community of artists. The time spent seeing and commenting an image is a token of appreciation and incentive more than anything else. Of course, there are some cut-n-paste messages which are not the kind of thing one ideally would want, but even in this case one should not automatically consider that they are careless or just self-interested pseudo-praise, for they can be simply the consequence of lack of time or even lack of knowledge of the language. We can't assume that all such posts or their authors are morally bankrupt. The same goes for posting a comment on somebody's work as a reply to a comment given to your own work, that is to say, it is usually just common courtesy, not the purchasing of popularity. Values are being mixed up here. It is important to note that, if one thinks that popularity, position in the charts, being artist or vendor of the month, and so forth, are of no importance or value, why not simply ignore those things altogether? Why is there a need to go through the effort of broadcasting, discussing, or even campaigning against them? Good art is the synergistic result of hard work, popularity, creativity, intelligence, and, above all else, sensitivity and humbleness. It is a social and cultural process, as much as a technical and inspirational one. There actually are some shameful things going on at RR, but they are of another nature. They have to do with the deception of posting comments praising someone's work only to, behind their backs, give them a poor rating on the said work, doing so without ever offering any sort of constructive criticism. They also have to do with making malicious comments meant simply to put down an artist, or being so proud of oneself as to believe that if you are not on the top it is only because you have been unfairly short-changed by lesser artists who bargain for votes. These are the types of things that we should be wary of, not the legitimate bonds of friendship, politeness, respect, and admiration that make this virtual community so successful among digital artists. Putting people down simply because they post comments or are socially engaged is just as bad as picking on them for not posting at all or staying to themselves: one has no right to do either of those things. Thank you again for all your support and friendship, without which I would not have learn all that I have and continue too! Have a Great week Monica

My dear, if you knew the reason that Cain killed his brother you will be enderstand the nature of (méchancetées )(to make bad things) of this earth, humans, non-compatible that hurt, attack, abandoning their values to lower the other in different ways. I miss comments and for the simple reason that I whant the artist feel appreciated and that his work can dominate the way of the greatest. When did speak from the heart words become so enjoyable but few take the time to Appeciate other at their fair values. Many comment and does not rate at all. But do not forget to leave them open rating. lol ..... I always try to give the best of my visions for it is important to promote the dream to the artist who comes and open the way to her work that she can lead the way the greatest. You always do a great job and for me it's worthy of a queen of art. I will always have great pleasure to have you comment because you dream and wonder that every time ((5 + +)) MICKEYRONY Ma belle ,si tu as comprit le pourquoi, que Caîn tua son frère tu seras dans la nature, des méchancetées de cette terre ,les humains ,non compatible Qui blessent ,attaquent ,délaissent leur valeurs pour abaisser les autre de différentes manière .

Finally someone that expresses what I've felt and then to put it into words in a way that gets out a clear message..I create art...post it here....hoping if only a handful find it worthy enough to post a comment....some critiques are always welcomed as I'm no professional...just an armchair artist so to speak that likes creating art in my spare time and sharing with others with similar interests...not caring if it gets a high rating/or reaches number 1...(though every once in awhile) it does feel grand to see ones name break through the barrier but it's not something I desire or strive for on any one given image.Yes sometimes the individuals will spend a quality amount of time on their creation and hopes knowing that it took some creative time that it gets some sort of notoriety and yes their is a proclaim of disappointment when it doesn't seem to go as one thought it should but in all reality that's art.Obviously while I've been away their has been some issues I'm just now becoming aware of and I agree with you that it's a shame that this has to be a competition to some here and that's not a good recipe for success...I've stated on more than one occasion when posting something that it's not necessary to save my latest art to your favorites just because....do so because you actually like it not because you feel obligated ...Trust me I don't "save" any art in my favorites that I ("~DON'T~")want there and enjoy returning to view on occasion...And just because your art isn't there it's not that I didn't like it or find it interesting it's just maybe just maybe not my cup of tea...There was alot of art when I first joined here many years ago that I didn't care for and there still is but I will comment every now and then as my preferred choice of art changes as I grow older.... I'm totally on board with your feelings Monica and agree it's a shame that their are always a few that have their own agenda's in life. But I will say this...With all the years I have invested here at RR that I "know" who my sincere followers are and who my real "friends" are....That is enough for me to return and continue creating what I like to do and that's art...If you like me....cool...if not ....cool.....I will say this though....In the 10 years or so I've been here I've created a long list of pen pals/buddies/friends/that I wouldn't change for all the gold in Fort Knox...and at current prices too....lol...Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts and to let others be able to do the same.... Your latest work is splendidly Beautiful BTW....(smiles).... ~Will~

Wonderful image Monica!! I agree with Your statement very much, as I began to post here not very long ago to have other Artist such as Yourself Critique My work so that I could become a better Photographer, not to become popular. Along the way I began to meet some wonderful people and forge some friendships. I don't care about being number one or number 500. I just want to become better at photography.

Dear Monica, I've written a simillar statement almost exactly a month ago. I used to be sad and frustrated that some artists have got all the attention and popularity, and others have got none. I could see no logic or proportions in this, and no way how to "enter this Club". Some years ago, a friend here told me to comment more, then I would get comments back. I did - with hardly any extra result for my efforts. From then, I rely on my honesty and I only comment if I have something to say, and I only add an image to my Favorites if I like it a lot and want to come back to see it again. It doesn't mean all the seen images I don't add to my Favorites are bad, not at all - I'm simply just strictly selective. I'm not getting many Favs myself, and I've expected that people who favorize my work, do it because they like it. Some of them surely do, but others do it obviously routinely on the assembly line. "Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". The "Chart race", as I used to call it. I thought that more honesty among us artists and visitors would be nice. A fair chance for everyone. But it feels I haven't come further with these naive ideas, since the machinery here at Rendo is rolling its usual way anyway. It's just take it or leave it, and honestly, now I couldn't care less. Now back to why we are here - your image is beautiful, light and playful, with such a sweet color combination... A truly inspiring work! :) Vashek

Very well said my friend, I have learn't so much since joining, I often feel guilty for not having the time to visit many more galleries, life is always getting in the way in my case, like lou I do not have time to look at my ebots but I really appreciate anyone who has the time to visit my gallery and am grateful for them leaving a comment or a fav but I do not care if one is left or not..we all have to start somewhere and I have been blessed in having so many different artists to view and when time allows comment on their work..This is a fantastic place to learn and enjoy if people would let it..it does not matter to me if people think their art is better than mine, if they get more comments than me, if my rateings are not what I wish..what matters to me is being able to view up and coming artists and enjoying what different artists are doing, what a great way to learn, seeing something and saying boy! that looks great just go to go and see if I can figure out how they did that..awesome..in my oppinion there there is no such thing as bad art just someone having fun and learning along the way, everyone has to start somewhere..no matter what is happening I will still enjoy my time here on rendo and striving to learn and have fun and enjoy the friendships I have made here...boy I was just going to say a couple of words..got run away with my self again... Oops! almost forgot to tell you how much I enjoy this picture..Hugs Kym.

This is beautiful sweet sis I love the colors you used as well The soft green and I call it raspberry color... The buds on the tree look almost real...like you could touch them Love the trail of the butterflies as well........ This is a fav with me As for the ratings and all that...I just don't understand all of the hoopla about it...so I leave well enough alone...... I answer my ebots..and try to leave an encouraging word or smile to someone's face and go on to the next one... I have come to love this lil community..and you all are like a second family too me... I hate to see all the discord that is going on..........I come here to escape drama...not get drawn into on a site that I love to come and escape to...I have enough going on in my life...don't need to hear anymore hurtful words...there is enough of that going on the world around us......... Why can't just everyone for once get along and have a peaceful easy feeling... And back to the main subject here.. I really love your image... As always it is beautiful..........just as you are Hugs Your sis Susan~

This is wonderfully done, Monica! Very nicely posed! I'm glad I zoomed in, because it's even better when one can see more detail. Beautiful work! Your narrative concerning issues on RR is extremely well thought out. I have to say, I'm aware of the problems because one or two people have alluded to that fact, but - so far - I count myself blessed not to have directly encountered these problems. The Renderosity community has been immensely gracious and supportive of the humble offerings I've posted to my own gallery. I know that within any community, there are always those that feel their calling in life is to pour sand in the gearbox or sugar into the gas tank, but I have yet to encounter it on RR. However, I certainly understand the frustrations of those who have. The biggest danger, I think, on Rendo is that most people seem almost TOO nice! LOL Okay, that's not really a danger, nor is it actually a bad thing, but, admittedly, there is not much in the way of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. That's understandable, because not everyone reacts to constructive criticism in the same way, whereas, most people react favorably to praise. So one should probably adopt a realistic attitude - "Though I'm receiving praise, I need to keep my skills and abilities in perspective" - and then look for constructive criticism elsewhere (from a spouse, or friend, or the like). I will say, though, that two people have given me constructive criticism (each only one time), and I sincerely value it as much as the many wonderful compliments I have received. Both I take to heart and try to learn from. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And, again, I really like your Ballerina Dream piece! Wonderful work! ~Robert

Monica, you create lovely heart felt images. I can also see that you have improved. I really appreciate your comments, and words on the matter of the situation at RR. Better put than I could ever come up with. I still enjoy very much my time spent on RR, but there is no way I can keep up,trying to view everything. So I view and comment on what I can in the time I have. Thanks for your time in my gallery. :)

i agree with what you saying.i saw this image already yesterday on utes screen and read the manifesto, and i must say knowing you i do know that it takes a huge amount of time and work to build up the amount of visitors you have because i know you visit them all as well.considering at the moment here we have 115/116 comments i would say that you deserve the charts. that renderosity squeezed the charts down to 20 in their wisdom (lol)is another point and not your fault. i know the people who are on top of the list and i know that they invest a lot of time to visit their friend/artist/visitors and i have respect for this. keep on creating.

I love how you used and blended these colors! A softly toned image with soft elements and atmosphere. Love it! Monica, I applaud you for saying this so well and so clearly. I've noticed that people are now reluctant to comment because they're going to have their motives questioned. I hate the bickering I see and like you, Lou, Steve, adrie and so many others, refuse to let it interfere with friendships or enjoyment of posted artwork. Hugs - Linda
