Hi everyone..I've been using Elefont for my 3dText in Bryce for the past year or so...all of a sudden it does'nt work anymore, cannot remove it to reinstall it. So while waiting for my next formatting i was wondering if anyone would know an easy free program like elefont that would do the job... Just 3d text i can import into Bryce as dxf,obj....Tanx

I think I'm the only one, but I still prefer to to create my text in white on black using photoshop, or any other image editing program. (I usually make it 512x512) In Bryce, create a terrain (or lattice), go into the terrain editor, increase the resolution to at least 1024 and import the text image. Smooth a bit, adjust height accordingly, mix well, and serve while hot. PS.. if you use the clipping bracket to adjust height, then make sure that the terrain/lattice is set to 'solid', otherwise it will appear hollow... which can be an interesting effect at times.

also, if you have RayDream or Carrara, you can create text in those programs and export in most formats. I'm guessing you don't have them, though, otherwise you wouldn't be asking.... nevermind... I need to get some sleep ;)

The terrain method is a good quick way to do things. And would be considered the hardcore Brycer's way... But it results in a high density mesh. However if you like using a nice clean relatively low poly mesh... Both of the handy-dandy freeware modeling programs that I like (Anim8or, Wings 3D) produce mesh text in multiple fonts. Dunno if that helps any. If you need to know more about them, I suppose you could ask at the modeling or Wings3D forums here at Renderosity. L8R!

If you're in a Windows OS- go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and go to the Install/Uninstall (depending on the OS) tab. Select 'Elefont', and click on the button below, Add/Remove. This should uninstall it. Failing that, go to the Elefont Directory, and look for an uninstall.exe, or something like that. Run that. Failing that, you could go into the Registry, and delete all the 'elefont' keys, but unless you're familiar enough with the Registry Editor, I would consider it only as a last step.
In any of the above, once you get the uninstall to work, you should be able to copy out your data files, delete the remaining files, delete the elefont directory, and be able to reinstall. Hope this helps.

i agree with pauljs get anim8or (www.anim8or.com) and wings3d (www.wings3d.com)! Just for the text anim8or is the way to go, just type it change it to whatever font/size/style u want, extrude it and then save as a .3ds or whatever :) Takes me all of 30 secs :)

Elefont doesn't install, or unistall. It is a single .exe file that just brings up the program when you execute it, that's it. Try going directly to the "EleFont.exe" (342kb) file on your hard drive and double-clicking it. If that doesn't work, try downloading it again, and trying that. AgentSmith

there's no real 'secret' to the Registry, except that if you get happy and delete the wrong keys or values, you can really screw up your OS. Usually all I do is pull up 'regedit' or 'regedt32', and do a search for the key name of 'elefont', for example. Usually there's not more than a couple (unless it's AOL IM, but that's another BC headache..;). I only caution that you ordinarily don't have to do this (that's a large part of what uninstall programs are for), but not everyone includes one. If you must try it, try to find someone familiar with it until you're comfortable.
