Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
I'm confused too, what exactly is the problem? New stuff shows up in freestuff every day, new pictures are in the gallery every, new and interesting and helpful and strange and sometimes long threads are posted for your reading pleasure every day. What more do you want? Nobody is twisting my arm to buy anything, letting people know it's available is not the same as expecting you to buy. If you don't want to buy, don't buy. As far as all the good people leaving, well, there's a lot of good people still here, and new good people joining all the time. And one Lemur that tries hard to be good... :) Regards- Lemurtek
Nope, the one thing you won't be asked to do is leave - no matter what question(s) you ask. This site was founded (and is based on) the right of members to have their say. The only thing we delete is requests for illegal copies of s/ware or models. Why do you feel that "it's expected that you buy stuff"? Notices about new items for Poser are posted in the Poser Forum but, as Lemurtek says, "nobody is twisting your arm to buy anything". If you visit the store and find nothing that you want, we're not going to point a quivering finger and say "Oooooo he didn't buy anything". Nor, if you never e...ver visit the store, will anyone say "well, he never visited the store". As far as good people leaving, that is true - some have gone, but others are still here, still posting and still making a very valued contribution. And new members are joining all the time, bringing with them fresh ideas, and new ways of looking at, and doing, things. (This is especially true of the newer members of the moderator-team.) So, if you have a problem let me know and I'll pass it on and we'll try and straighten it out - I can't guarantee that we will, but we'll give it our best shot. Paul
I am still lurking and I email people with suggestions - but for this I had to come out of the woodwork. Consider why some people left: It was because of statements made that made them feel like thier work was not only unaprechiated, but that they should feel opligated to do things for everyone else. Those of us who have created and given things away and supported this community do so because (at least for me) it is a way to have some fun and expand our skills and make some friends. If you feel "forced" to do anything, that's your problem. The store is being fed by artists who either want a way to make a buck or tow OR they are donating their work to help keep this place alive - it eats money in a major way just in bandwidth. Another way to help keep this place alive and well is to simpley say "Hey - nice item/post/whatever. Thanks." If you have nothing nice to say....
We have a store? Where was I? =) Nope, no sales pressure here.. Every once in a while I look in there, but I probably won't buy anything (mostly because of my rapidly-emptying wallet and 0-income.) Despite some people leaving, there's still plenty of talented and helpful people here, and more join all the time. Well, now that I'm done parroting everyone above me, I just want to add my hopes that you don't leave too. =) Rosh
I also don't think all the 'good people' are leaving--some have backed off into quieter positions, etc. But--just think of all the folks still here and participating. I feel no pressure whatsoever to buy from the store. I think there is some excitement by those who have created things for 100% profits to go to the community and that's as it should be--good work offered. I still like being told by creators that new work is offered and where-I, like lots of others, just don't have time to surf all the dl sites. Like others have said, free stuff is still being uploaded every day--and good useful things--and things being offered from other sites because of problems with linking. I sure don't think things have slacked off at all--in fact I created a thread where I said I thought things were really zinging along--LOTS of excitement, participation, etc. I guess its how you see what this community should be--seems to be working really well from my standpoint. AND--like Ikyoto says--just a little 'good work' post now and then goes a long way. Diane B
The problem is the complaint and debate forum. It stirs up trouble by causing issues to be aired publicly. Having issues is normal for a community this size. By airing them in public it makes people think things are much worse than they are. As result they actually become much worse as people start to read what's posted in there and then decide it must be bad here and so leave. Sometimes it better to keep some things private.
Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

I have this amazing banner ad filter, it seemed to come standard in my brain, if the heading on this post had a gif animation selling nude pictures of my wife I didn't notice it. I'm so used to diregarding banners and logos on web pages it took me a while to FIND the store. I don't feel preasured. And personally I like the new things in free stuff more than anything in the store, yet a nother huge dot com expired yesturday, there is no money in e-comerse, I WISH Renderosity and the artist's could make some money with the store but that seems real damn unlikly to me, does Zygote even make any money to speak of from us with all the free stuff that the good people circulate freely? THE most important thing to me is LoboUK statement, that you won't be banned or deleated so long as you aren't talking Warez. So long as the moderators don't censor us we have NO reason for complaint. I was afraid that with the store a post by me about something like the new $15 175 prop Poser colection CD by CAL would be unwelcome, but time and time again the administration has affirmed thier comitment to preserving our free speach. This whole site is just a gift to us. People fade back because they are burned out, between ideas, etc. Then they got refreshed and come back. Its up to all of us to keep this an exciting and interesting site to draw them back by posting our images and ideas and responses... but its true, the praise worthy are due thier praise. If you make something good that hundreds or even thousands of people use and you are lucky to get a half dozen "thank you"s and "here look what I did with it" e-mails it must be pretty disapointing, I've seen instances ewhere truly impressive contributions are taken pretty much for granted, that may be true here, Travaler fortunately has gotten the tribute he deserves but as far as Poser goes the honor rolls should be pretty long. We can say thank you, and we can try to show the good stuff we make from thier work, that is our obligation to them. AND running this forum is a valuable and praise worthy as any transmap or hair prop or breast morph that ever showed up in the Free Stuff it make possible. Marque, you are doing your job around here, making posts, answering posts, that is ultimately what we have to offer. I think there has been a Malaisse in postings lately, but we ARE the content here, so its up to US to make things more exciting. My personal gesture was my attempt to strat debate on Realism vs. Painterliness in renders, I can very nice responses but it didn't spark the debate I had hoped for... what we need is inteligent but inflamitory posts around here to spice things up! `dan
I've been to the C&D forum perhaps twice, having no real interest in fighting and arguing... Honestly, by ignoring that it's there, I'm seeing a very happy Renderosity, exactly how I like to think of it. And I agree with momodot about the banners.. the only time I'm even aware of their existence is when they cause my page loading to lag.. Rosh
Hey , don't worry about it there are far more important things in the world to worry about. If someone wants to leave you don't have to like it or agree with it and it may be a shame that they are gone but in the end it is thier decision. As for the store I haven't bought a thing from it , not because I am against it, but because nothing in it really interests me yet. My biggest concern is that eventually no one will offer any good stuff for free but I have no problem with anyone selling thier stuff in the store ,I have considered it myself. I haven't felt any pressure to buy anything (not that I would listen anyway ,I'm pretty hard headed) my advice would be to not worry about it , buy if you like , if not then don't.
Good people?! Where? Where?! Don't frighten MadRed like that. I think (hope) those who have 'officially' left Renderosity will drop back from time to time. Computers and art are two things you shouldn't get mad about, at least not mad enough to go and pout in the corner. Get pissed, need a break; fine, we all do. Now get over it and get back online. (Meant in the nicest possible way.) (thoroughly) MadRed
markm, I really don't think you have to worry about a dearth of freestuff. It seems to me that there has been a load of good things uploaded recently. And--besides that, lots of links to sites where there are other free downloads. Lots of people never put theirs in Funstuff because they have major server problems and alert us through links (like Steve and Rena for instance). Just this week Kozaburo offered yet another of his amazing transmapped hair styles, Rena has terrific textures for the store's emperor, and on and on and on. People just seemed 'compelled' to make and offer things VBG--and lucky for us I would say. Diane B
hey... you mean everybody but me in the complain and debate forum is SERIOUS??? well, okay, some people have posted serious things. but mostly, i just take it as a humorous group gripe session and have a ton of fun over there. depends on your point of view, i guess. :) marque: if you want to leave, it's your choice. nobody can tell you how you should feel or do feel. if you feel uncomfortable, or that things aren't right... it's up to you. you can stay and try to change things, or you can leave. stick to your principles. not that i WANT you to leave! maybe the replies here help put a new perspective on things, and you'll change your mind. that would be nice :)
When reading in the C&D forum, I just imagine myself sitting around the kitchen table or out on the back patio with friends and all of us "bitching and moaning" about the stuff that causes us minor aggravation (you know, like the old "I don't care HOW many times I yell at him, my kid STILL forgets to put the cap back on the toothpaste" kind of stuff). None of it is life threatening, earth shattering or any of that. It's just good natured complaining to let off a bit of steam and do a bit of bonding (as in "Yeah, I know what you mean, but with my kid it's drinking out of the carton instead of the toothpaste"). Kate, who thinks life is way too short to be taking stuff seriously, especially stuff on the computer.
Thanks everyone for the input, I feel better all the way around. I won't be going into certain areas because all it does is stir me up. One of the things that brought me in here was all the people who are ready to jump in and help a newbie, (me). I wasn't talking about the store as far as free stuff is concerned...seems like there's more free stuff than before the store opened. I just let some comments bug me. Now..everyone back to work! I have to go figure out how to get my stupid hat to work, looks cool in Hash but I can't seem to get the textures right in Poser. grumble...mumble...ack...yes!...coffee will help! Marque

What is up at renderosity? I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like all the good people are leaving. I think I'm about out of here myself. I was all for supporting the forum, but now it's like it's expected that you buy stuff. I thought the store was a good idea, but I'm thinking now that maybe it should have been kept separate. Just my thoughts, flame me if you must but I'm confused here. Marque
