Hmmmmm, i do not think you can create any other terrain than a square based, cuz that is how is defined, on the square grid ! :) You can apply transparency map to it to and loose the square shape on the bottom... Latices are simetrical in nature, so U cannot loose that part, but U can edit it in terrain editor and randomize it more ! :) Volumetric slabs are more convincing if you want more realistic clouds but their render time is much more demanding... Hope this helped some ! :)
Excellent, excellent (he says wringing his hands), the world is within my grasp! (maniacal laughter...) Any ideas on my second query? (he asks humbly).

The Billowy clouds you can make from Volumetric Clouds or Many Sphere's with the Volumetric Cloud Textures Applied...I use My own Clouds I have for sale here and I Put them as a Backdrop/2D Square and Render that way...There is a Thunderhead Cloud Formation in the Freebie area under Bryce here on Renderosity...
I am weeping with delight. Thank you. Soon, soon...

All wonderful suggestions. My brain is steaming as is my CPU. UK by boat? That would take my 3 weeks from where I live ;-)

One of what? A website? Are you talking about a specific image on this site? Sorry I'm confused.

Ok, hold on. I saw an image in your Gallery Bryster; the Sky Cities one. Is that what your're talking about. Because that's what I'm in the process of doing. However, mine is more medieval in nature. I've been to Whales. Love the castles. Crossed over at the Severn? crossing (hope I got the name right). At the time they were charging 10 (Ouch!). Got lost on some road through sheep country with a bunch of dams. Saw one person only, and he looked at us as if he'd never seen a car before. Stayed at a B&B near Harlech castle. They had the most spectacular view of the Ocean. Loved to go back with the whole family.

Wales. Now that gives me an idea for the "mystery" challenge: that ruined abbey, not all that far from the Severn Bridge. Not "Tintagel" (that's in Cornwall), Tintern?? (need correct name to do google search). Been there a couple of times, years ago, the place is not only mysterious, it's kind of creepy too. Dunno if I'll have time to do it tho:-(( Cheers, Diolma
