I've had stuff in the hot20, but never in first or second place(highest was 10th), since this stuff made it, I don't consider the hot20 anything but a cronies voting club, if I had that many friends I'd have been in the hot20 first or second place too!;]

I CARE!!Beat the living daylights out of that dead horse!!! Someday I hope to be able to make it into the H20. I make images that take me months to construct and cannot crack the H20. When somebody makes it with an image that can be constructed inside of 20 minutes, it kills my dream of H20 aspirations. IS THE HOT 20 A BAD JOKE LAUGHING IN THE FACE OF EVERY SERIOUS RENDEROSITY BRYCE ARTIST?

doug i'm sorry but i don't agree with you. Firstly after seeing some of the work done by jocko500 that image of his is well done and i believe he is starting to expand in his art work.
Secondly the one by Woodhurst is well done and for someone that hasn't posted an image for 2 months it goes to show that taking your time can turn out some great art.
If anything i will say they both deserve to be in the top 20 along with 15 others in there. Time for me to work on something totally radical.

I have opinions of my own -- strong
opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

When i read Crazydawq i hope that i will start one time to expand my art work... The Passion of the spring took me about 3 month work ( 2 week rendering)and for that, i get 9 comments, and i didn't get in hot 20..Thank you to all that let a comment to my work. I appreciate a lot. Doug don't go anymore in H20 and continue to make beatiful picture. PeaceYeah, screw the Hot 20. As many of you know, I'm an ancient dragon Highlord trapped in a human body. And I know, I know, most people don't think dragons exist. But tell me that to my FACE?!?! And then watch me CRY!!!! And then we'll see who really exists. It's black and white to me, cut and dry. Hot 20 = Not hot. At all. Dragon's Firey Breath = really, really hot. Hot enough to melt steel and turn bones to ash. So, while those pansies are busy voting away and getting me banned again, I'm just gonna keep working on my scenes and making REALLY hot dragon images whenever possible. Fire totally rules, too bad some people don't know what "HOT" really means. Then again, maybe it's good they don't know? 'Cause burns really hurt!
Goes back to a previous thread asking "What is art". If painted black canvas's or piles of trash bags or dead sheep can be accepted as art, then I guess anything goes. I don't call it art, but some do. I will not lower my own personal standards just to get another H20 entry! New years resolution number 1. I visit the gallery almost every day, and vote for those I feel do deserve it. This is the only way to deal with the problem. If enough people do it, then we should be able to take the hot 20 back!
The greatest part of wisdom is learning to develop the ineffable genius of extracting the "neither here nor there" out of any situation...."
I tend to totaly agree with Chohole (and AS for that matter), CrazyDawg and beating the dead horse concept ! :P Point is, and I'm totaly honest when I say this: I DO vote for any image which seams to has certan amount of quality in it (==I like it) and it seams that it took time and effort to be constructed !!! :D Meny times, sleepy, lazy, too tired or whatever reason is, I did not make the comment, but I DID vote for it, it is a minimal amount of appreciation I can show for an image ! :D Not that I'm complaining, but, people, if you like somene's work, please VOTE and leave comment if possible, so many are not beeing recognized enough in this community becouse of lack of it. :( Thats the ONLY way to have H20 the way it was intended to be. We need H20 too, that is the only way besides of AOM and AOY that someone is hot-spoted in this community... My 2 cents :D
To be honest Doug, most of Jocko's work leaves me cold, but there is something about 'born or hatched' that I really like and I voted for it, that's my belief on the way hot 20 should work I see work I like, I vote, if everyone is doing that then the hot 20 should actually be displaying the current hot works, the only reason for the hot 20 to not show the popular view at any time is if people can't be bothered to vote. In my opinion, the best work in there at the moment is Annod but it's only showing as number 2.

'oddly enough, i go thru the gallery nightly, and vote for every picture i like.'
I think that's one of the problems... IMHO, I don't think people should hit the vote button just because they like a picture... I've seen lot's of images I LIKE, but I don't think that they belong in the hot 20... I only vote for the ones that I think are truly outstanding in some way... the best of the best like the list was meant to represent.
Edited for P.S.... and this must be an emotional topic... the dragon lord didn't start with 'Aye' this time... ;o)

"...the only reason for the hot 20 to not show the popular view at any time is if people can't be bothered to vote..." Yeah, or if someone renders a shiny sphere floating over water, then gets everyone he knows to vote for it, or even worse, creates a dozen dummy accounts and votes himself in. I have nothing against surrealism and abstract art, but come on! It is blatantly obvious to anyone with any knowledge that some work is more Hot20 worthy than others. Yes, many artists at Renderosity have shown a marked improvement in their skill. However, including mediocre works in the Hot20, the supposed showcase for the best of the best, cheapens the whole idea.
I feel like I have no right to complain because I haven't voted in a long while, that would just be hypocritical. Anyway, I won't complain about it anymore. I try not to look at H20 anymore. That's it, I'm not gonna give myself a heart attack over H20. If it stays, goes or gets fixed, it really won't affect me.
Ah Ha! I've solved the problem! What is the Hot20? Googleing "define hot" gives 47 definitions. Here are the ones that could be construed as applying here.
You'll notice only one of them refers to skill.

I'll continue voting for the pictures that I like (not as many as you might think). If enough people do the same then the 20 pictures most liked will float to the top. By only voting for the pictures you feel 'deserve' to be in the Hot20, you are allowing space for 'average', 'bizarre but fanatically followed', and worse pictures.
And here's a couple other Hot20 threads. The first should be required reading.

I always vote for anything which I consider worthy of attention...but I have to agree that lately a lot of the stuff on there confounds me... Not to blow my own trumpet, but I spent a fair amount of time on a pic recently and it took forever to render - I also think its one of my personal best, yet not 1 comment :) And then I see the hot20 and cant help but wonder what people here actually enjoy...I'll post a link to troll some views...hehe. Funnily enough, I was a bit perturbed so I joined another gallery and had positive comments on the same image within 5 minutes...go figure...well thank you all. I think it was you dougocd that told me to darked my pictures and not use so bright of colors. Thank you if it was you. It worked in this image you all talking about. and xenic101 you missed Dr. Jocko500 tread I thought it was good lol and draculaz posted this draculaz - decent work, the first place on the hot20 should definetely give you the impulse to better yourself :) nother wrong with that I like drac work and i know the person knows a lot more than me as most of you know more than me in Bryce. you all think I not learning and just cookie cutting. I learning a lot each time I get into bryce. It may not be fast I got a life to live and I into a lot of things too. Think back when you was in school. Your teacher teach you your mom and dad was teaching you. but if you did not want to learn no matter what they did you would not learn. At times you try real hard to get real good grades but you[I] would not get the grades. Then you learn on your own. I ask some one how to make snow but no help. I found out my self and made the snowman for New Years that one render for about 2 hours of render because of the diff color lights I put into it. I sent about 2 hours putting it together too. so it was 4 hours Yes it took 20 mintures to render "trick rider on ghost horse" but it took me 3 hours to put it together as you see it. I just like to thank every one. And do not jump to the ideal I not learning I just a little slow and what I learn I take out of the box and see what else I can do with it. I got nothing again any one. I learn as I go. Sorry I not fast learner and my art is not for evey one I know that. Have a good day and remember life is too short to get upset over something you say you donot care about like the hot20. Just do your best. That all I can do. and also be freindly and smile , some one may smile back.
what you see is not what you know; it in your face
Jocko, you will be fine, as a Bryce artist, with much practice and dedication. It's not your artwork which is under fire. There are many beginners in the Bryce galleries. Bryce is a beginner 3D application, period. There are no cheaper applications that do what Bryce can do. It's the fake friends that you have voting for you that bothers me. And your arrogance. I honestly believe you belong in the Beginner Gallery, but that's your decision. I don't dislike your artwork, it's just not a good showcase of what Bryce can do, at all. Not even remotely. Before anyone says, "That's YOUR opinion, LSD!", I will state, again : Of course it's my opinion. I wrote it. It matters not wether it's fact or opinion. It's been stated.
I know you all seen my galery and know I post in many areas of renderosity. I guess the people there saw my work and added me to they favorite list. That what I like many diff things many differ intest. Try it you may like it. I know it chao doing things like that way but that me. Plus I post where I like and if the mod say this is the wrong place then I will keep on posting. I know I arrogance and happy to be one but I try to help people and do my best to do things but my art is what it is at the time and is every changeing. if you look in the bryce gallery you see many new ones every day and you can not stop them.
what you see is not what you know; it in your face
plus you miss the whole point of this site Renderosity. It not a showcase of what Bryce can do. It a place where people can post and have fun and look at other people art. These people not makeing a dime on they work here [most of them] they here to just have fun like a bar-b-q. If you wish a showcase of what Bryce can do there other sites to go to that have pros doing it [ a pro is some one makeing money on they work] I think you just miss the point of this site or it me that have missed it
what you see is not what you know; it in your face
I make 50% of my income using Bryce and Photoshop, Jocko. It's not the artwork I'm analyzing, it's your ridiculous methods. The Hot 20 IS a showcase of Brycean artwork. And you fill it with beginner works, either by logging in and voting over and over under different names, or by convincing your friends to do so. I don't care if you stop or not, do what you like. I think your Bryce stuff is mostly garbage, but you ARE improving, which is what's important. I've already been banned once because of you, and I'm not going to stop speaking my mind now. I WANT you to post your artwork. Makes MY garbage look that much better. Perhaps I will one day be promoted to "trash"!?!?
you did not offend me I know many people in other area in rend. thinks the same. The only ones that do not say any thing or I just missed it is the 2d forum. and if it do get started there the mods will stop it and delete the tread if it form bad blood and made the forum bad looking.
what you see is not what you know; it in your face
I was not going to re-enter this thread, but have to agree with LSD's last comment. That is not to say I did or didn't agree with any of the rest, but that one comment of yours Jocko "Read the bible" Come on man you are old enough to realise just how many people you can offend offering that as a solution. Buddhism, Sikism, Hinduism, Judaism, Shinto, Jainism, Confucianism, Zoroastrianism, Wiccan, Paganism etc, etc. None of these would be amused by that statement. The bible means something to less than a quarter of the world's population.
The greatest part of wisdom is learning to develop the ineffable genius of extracting the "neither here nor there" out of any situation...."
I was going to stay out and I pretty much will since we've covered this all before. But just a quick suggestion... can't the PTB put some code in that only counts 1 vote per IP? It may not guard against those people with dynamic IP's, but might help a lot to avoid clone voting.

Sorry Doug, I have no problem with people saying that its a problem. My gripe is people always get singled out. Why if its such a problem doesn't someone start a partition like the save Bryce one and go that route. I'd gladly add my name to that. I just get sick of people telling other people their work isn't 'good' enough. That turns my stomach and is what offends me. I think that if we want the hot 20 to be for real then it should be like Bryce select gallery was, a group of anonomous judges picks from submitted works. Anything other than that I can't see working. My 2 cents.
I understand your thinking Ang, it would have to be a very diverse group of people, otherwise we're back to the few deciding what's good art. Currently (ideally) it's an opinion of our peers. I'm afraid I agree with doug, scrap it. Or at least give the option for your art not to be votable. Then the Hot20 doesn't have to mean anything if you don't want it to. Theycould even go one step further and make all Hot20 options turn off-able. Then for people who don't like it, it will be as if it doesn't exist.

I rarely check in on the H20 anymore, but tonight I did. What a joke! The top two slots are not what I would call the best work here: 2 by Jocko. Jocko isn't a bad guy, and I don't mean to offend him, but his work is representing the BEST of the Bryce work. Is that right? Not in my opinion, and I know I'm not alone in thinking that. I hope Renderosity is still working on fixing, or getting rid of, the H20.
