OK the morphs are done :) Saved out of poser as wavefront .OBJ morph targets, There are two used as follows: Select Figure: Boot and BodyPart: Left Shin Click Object>Load Morph Target browse to LshinFIX.obj name morph and set to 1.000 Select Figure: Boot and BodyPart: Right Shin Click Object>Load Morph Target browse to RshinFIX.obj name morph and set to 1.000 If anyone knows how to make these into one clickable pose files that would be cool :) Logan

Mordikar ( ) posted Wed, 23 March 2005 at 10:30 PM

can't you resave the cr2 with the morph channels installed? that's at least a start in the direction you're heading.

logansfury ( ) posted Wed, 23 March 2005 at 10:50 PM

AHA!!! why yes I believe I can :)

Mordikar ( ) posted Wed, 23 March 2005 at 11:55 PM

Grrrrr.... Serious flaw too my thought pattern here :( the p4 fem catsuit has those stretchy bits between the brests .... and no brest morphs ... however i can turn off the upper parts of the catsuit to make it look like leather pants... muahahahaha! and it works too ... the parts i turn off visibility on stay invisible .. yes i am rambling here just to keep track of my thought patterns.. i'll forget come morning.

ok i deleted the two above posts showing the swort belt with the 2 hitch pads .. the reason why is i got up this morning and realized i could start from those straps and just finnish out the strap rather than having that dumb looking pad thing .. and here is what i got.

woo hoo shin guards are done ... these will go on the fixed version of the scale mail boot that logan did as optional boots and shin guards.

Mordikar ( ) posted Thu, 24 March 2005 at 6:25 PM

Sorry folks .. as much as i'd like to do the gloves it's not looking like it's gonna happen. I can't find any tutorials on making gloves. I have a ... prototype in the works... but the way i'm having to do it is causing all sorts of really badly creased seams and looks horrible... on top of that i can't find a way to cap off the fingers that desn't come out all pointy and amazingly horrid. :(

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 5:26 AM

Look at it this way, some wretchedly evil dragonlord is going to need jagged partly gnawed gloves with pointy fingertips for feeding his pets out of the egg... right? right! Nothing is ever wasted. ;^) Carolly the Optimist

Mordikar ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 7:24 AM

lol thanks Carolly, i needed that... well folks i have a job interview today ... they don't want to pay me enough .. but it's better than nothing so wish me luck :)

logansfury ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 8:58 AM

Good Luck, let us know how the interview went :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 9:27 AM

Good luck indeed! And if the pay isn't enough, perhaps you can wangle a needed benefit or extra holiday (like your birthday) or access to a class or something else that will be of use in the future. My best jobs haven't been the ones that paid the most but the ones where I learned the most. Carolly

Mordikar ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 6:08 PM

Well i don't know how it went ... i don't feel that it went wonderfully .. but then again .. i never do. I so hate interviews. He said he'd be done interviewing in about two weeks.

freyfaxi ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 8:09 PM

Armour looks great,,but I have a question regarding the practicality of the straps. In RL..if you cut one of those straps holding the thigh and shoulder guards on..they'll all become unstable and fall off. Not what you'd want to happen in the middle of a combat..embarrassing, not to say potentially fatal.

Mordikar ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 1:16 AM · edited Sat, 26 March 2005 at 1:18 AM

Actually,

the pauldrons (shoulder pieces) are held in place by the arm straps, the straps connecting to the center ring in the front and back are really no more than added protection against a pauldron slipping down a little on the upper arm and geting into an uncomfortable position. There is a matching set of straps in back that serve the same purpose. so if the front strap is severed, the pauldron is still supported by the back strap. Wost case the plate right over the shoulder would flap up (i've had a shoulder rivet pop in a fight before it's annoying but not majorly debilitating.).. and in batle minor armour malfunctions like this happened from time to time.

The thigh pads are similarly strapped in place like the shin guards, and fore arms are. If you are talking about the side hip guards that hang on the outside of the legs, then yeah if you cut a strap it would fall from the front but there is a similar set of straps in back so it wouldn't fall off..

I had similar hip protection on my armour and lost a rivet and it did pretty much the same thing ... the thigh guard falls in front but still not an opening for a seriously fatal blow.

If you want to go for historical accuracy remember most swords of the time wern't even sharp enough to behead someone in a single chop it often took 2 to 5 chops sometimes more. (this is why the guillotine was invented as a "humane" method of beheading). If the sword isn't capable of going thru the flesh of the neck and separate the thin bones of the spinal column, there's no way it would realistically cleave thru the thick of ones leg and the much thicker and solid thigh bone.

technically if i were making this armour in real life, I would put a strap at the top of the front and back rings that would hold them in place on the chest piece and provide balance for the other pieces should one be severed. But since i'm going to do the pauldrons and hip guards (and connecting straps and rings) as a seperate conforming figure from the curiass (chest piece) i felt it better to leave it off for asthetics and to fend off collision issues or straps floating in the mid air in poser.

ok work on this project has hit a major slowdown .. the main reason is because i'm in the scaling and grouping phase... I HATE grouping ... i HATE IT!!! i can't get my head to understand grouping in uvmapper, cutting the mesh in rhino leves nasty seams .. soo.... i do my grouping in the poser grouping tool which i think i have learned to master. scaling is done ... It almost wasn't because of major issues with the armour not fitting on poset even though it fit on her in rhino... poser does some freaky stuff ... however thanks to Logan'sfury i went and figured out magnets enough to fix the collision issues, rexported out of poser and imported in perfect. so work continues... trudging along slowly... i have a phone interview with charter communications monday .. another company that doesn't wanna pay me jack .. but at least this one is literally 7 minutes from the house unlike that one in dallas. who knows.

Mordikar ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 12:42 AM

for anyone who might actually still be following this thread, modling, scaling, and grouping are done ... now to uvmap and make cr2's and a pp2 for the gorget and it'll be finnished!

logansfury ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 12:54 AM

WAZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 5:47 AM

Of course, we're still following!!!

Mordikar ( ) posted Mon, 04 April 2005 at 11:34 AM

Ok looks like we're down to building cr2's. Actually we're almost done building the cr2's i need to do the forearms and the scale boots and shin guards. I should be able to copy the other boots cr2 and just change what modle it loads. After that i have a LOT of clean up to do on the cr2's .. and i may have to get Logan to work some more of his magnet magik to fix some pokethru issues. most notable is where the thigh guards poke thru the hanging hip guards ... it doesn't do that in the obj!!!! grumbles

logansfury ( ) posted Mon, 04 April 2005 at 12:21 PM

Im here bro. IM, post here, or private email 24/7 as need arises :)

Mordikar ( ) posted Mon, 04 April 2005 at 12:29 PM · edited Mon, 04 April 2005 at 12:32 PM

well my friend what i'm hoping for is some one to go thru and find the poke thrus, build magnet morps for them, then load the morps and resave the cr2's with the morphs loaded and set to a default of 1.000

can it be done? will it work?

The poke thrus i've found so far are both thighs poke thru the hip guards (fix the hip guards), the belt is interfering with the straps for the hip guards (fix the straps), and theres problems with the chest piece on the sides of the brests (could be fixed by shrinking the brests on posette ... but may want to fix it any how) and at the bottom of the chespiece where posette pokes thru the chest piece (very minor, not even seen unless you close up on the hips at just the right angle)
once i clean up the cr2's i'll pack it all up and pm you a download link. but right now i'm waiting for my phone interview with Charter communications.

logansfury ( ) posted Mon, 04 April 2005 at 12:44 PM

sounds like edits that magnets should handle, if anything resists my efforts ill ask some of the magnet gurus for assistance

Mordikar ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 11:34 AM

Ok the armour is packaged in alpha mode .. once Logan's fury gets my morphs made i'll rebuild the cr2's to include the morphs (i hope it works) and then repackage and set up for downloads in the freebies section.

logansfury ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 1:25 PM

Ill be snagging the armor today and beginning morphing tonight. Sorry for the delay everyone :)

Hey, we recognize that good things take time!

logansfury ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:39 AM

Hey everyone, just to keep you updated: Ive got the armor from Mordikar, its beautiful. Im making a series of morphs for it, then sending them to Mordikar so he can load, inspect, and then save as .cr2 if he doesnt see any required adjustments. The job calls for: "both thighs poke thru the hip guards, the belt is interfering with the straps for the hip guards, and theres problems with the chest piece on the sides of the brests and at the bottom of the chest piece" Ive completed the set for the hip guards both R and L and sent those for examination, tomorrow (when I wake up in about 8 hours or so) ill start to create the morphs for chest piece and straps. night!

Mordikar ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 8:29 AM

whoot. morphs are DONE!!! Logan rocketh most greatly.

Cr2's are rebuilt to include the morph channels and all but one are set to 1.0 just how it needs to be.

Transmaps are done for the belt to turn on and off the side belts.

Gona go over it all today and double check but i think this thing may be ready for final packaging!!

hauksdottir ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 7:52 PM

:) Great news!

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 8:13 PM

LOL...been watching poor Mordikar through this whole modeling session. You have my sincere empathy (though I'm laughing a bit). Awesome piece you've got going there!

Mordikar ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 9:26 PM

Thanks chuck, I find that if i post a forum thread on what i'm working on i'm less likelyy to stop working on it for 3 months to a year like the scalemail.

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 9:28 PM

Ahhh, I see. So we are being "used" as a catalyst (smile). No problem!

Im mostly to blame for the timeline on this one! Mordikar and I got into a deep, highbrow intellectual discussion about the movie Excalibur (right around about the scene where Igrain gets boinked if I remember properly) and that led to the distraction of modelling the pair of flamberges and the polearms set he's released to freebies. Combine that with the 5 or 6 days I was away when he was waiting for me to do morphs and here you have our current completion progress......

The good news is that weve all access to the new freebies to play with as we wait. To wit: the addy up above :)

Mordikar ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 10:24 PM

well chuck if by catalyst you mean a "hey get off your @#$% and finnish it already!" yeah .. Actually I stopped working on the scalemail about 2 years ago .. and i thought nothing of it untill Logan started houndung me regularly to finnish it and then it was done in ... what .. 2 maybe 3 weeks. and that was after having lost all the poser files to an hdd crash and having to go back to the rhino files and remesh. I think knowing people are eagerly awaiting something kida gives me that extra nudge to stay with it .. and it's even gotten me to finnish almost all of my old projects that i started but didn't finnish 2 years ago. :) I have the archery pack to finnish, and then thers some tiddly bit props .. like a book, and a treasure chest, little stuff like that.

Mordikar ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 10:27 PM

speaking of the polearms set ... it's going to be the featured freestuff of the week item in the newsletter for "another 3d art community who's name i'll not mention here" next week.

logansfury ( ) posted Wed, 20 April 2005 at 10:34 PM

Hey buddy I just now turned on ICQ and got your message from hours and hours back. Ill be online for a bit if you are still concious, go ahead and fire up the IM proggie!!

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 2:12 AM

Mordikar, We already have a selection of books and treasure chests. A good medieval spellbook with latches and locks is needed. IIRC, someone made a diary with a latch, but that is it. I wouldn't model a treasure chest unless I was doing something very different and special... like a reliquary or something exotic (from the 1001 Nights or the Russian tale where the soldier goes down and 3 dogs are guarding the treasures). A lot of RPG gear hasn't been done. We have weapons galore, but little for healing, cooking, grooming. Small items such as whetstones, flint and steel firestarters, combs, drinking horns, fancy torches... the stuff which fills out scenes, and makes them believable, is pretty much missing. Carolly

Mordikar ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 7:48 AM

Rezally ...... well then .... once the armour and archery sets are done i guess it's time to dust off the old 3rd edition DnD players guide, and start goin thru the equipment lists... muahahahaha

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 8:08 AM

Third edition isn't old! (thinking about my guide to the Emporium in Arduin)

logansfury ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 9:49 AM

I have sitting in line of sight of my comp here, the "old" blue D&D rulebook (the single non-advanced rules for levels 1-3 or 4, the one that came out after the original small softbound 3 book ruleset). Far as AD&D goes, I never progressed beyond the original AD&D - The classic 4-book hardbound rules: Dungeon Masters Guide, Monster Manual, Players Handbook and Dieties & Demigods were my staple rulebooks for years, along with the Dragon magazine updates. I was still into it for Unearthed Arcana, Fiend Folio, and Monster Manual 2, but I think at that point they began the second edition with a whole new series of hardcovers and I stopped playing. Ive still every piece of RPG investment Id made as a kid and a teenager. Its a blast to thumb thru the old dragon mags to this day :)

Mordikar ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 10:27 AM

me and the wife still play .. we just havn't played in a year or more ... gaming isn't big in texas. I didn't like what they did to rangers in 3.5 (yes i'm one of those elven ranger guys)

Mordikar ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 12:32 PM

Warriors and Warrioresses ...i am happy to announce that this armour is now available in a free stuff near you .. well it's available at the "other site" who's name is a bad word around here .. It's still pending approval for the free stuff here .. BUT IT WILL BE HERE TOO SOON!!!!!

freyfaxi ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 4:13 PM

Woo Hoo !!..looking forward to the completed set :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 7:54 PM

We're patient... really! As long as we throw sheep to the dragon, he'll wait until we get outfitted. Most of my friends are old-timers, so we'll play first and second, but not third ed AD&D. If they were going to rewrite the rules that drastically, they should have simply made a new game out of it. Carolly

Mordikar ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 8:34 PM

I kinda like 3rd ed ... I just don't like 3.5. As for the armour ... ITR'S HERE!!!! and available .. and WOW .. 106 downloads from 1 site in 1 afternoon??

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 9:52 PM

Someone must like it or something. ;^) :chuckle: I like the "options and extras", so that characters can be a bit more unique (I prefer Hero System, since it is much less cardboard-templated, but the options allow for a more complex character). The main advantage of D&D is that you can whip up new characters pretty quickly for convention games. The shoe-horning bugged me, though. Why should bards be thieves? Why should druids be a religious class? Carolly

Mordikar ( ) posted Thu, 21 April 2005 at 10:20 PM

Technically Druids were a religious class .. in real live they were high-priests of the pagan celtic faith... but technicalities aside ... yes they did do a bit of pigeonholeing with the character classes ...
