Subject: I have had it with E-on!

dueyftw ( ) posted Sun, 07 August 2005 at 11:24 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 2:47 AM

I have had it with E-on and their shitty attitude. The latest patch non beta breaks the program in so many way that losing count. They leave it up so more users can get the encryption on their computers. How nice.
What idiot thinks that selling plants to users of a landscape program will make them any money? Its like selling polygons in any other 3d program. The only thing it doing is pissing off the users and driving away any hopes of new customers.

In three months I was planning on doing a feature film, before the rendcows were just unstable finishing the jobs half the time, now with them not working I have stopped all work and giving E-on one week to fix this mess that they have made for themselves.

Currently Im looking into Carrara 4 as a replacement. I paid for 5 extra cows when I bought 5I only 3 weeks ago and have two idle computers. If the program worked I would have bought 5 more cows but for now e-on gets no more of my money for anything.

3 weeks ago? get your credit card company to recover the cost? Unusable product, depending on commerical legality, normally here in the UK, if product is faulty wihtin 1 month you ALWAYS have the right to demand a refund (unles it's perishable goods) E-on does need a rocket up it's ass. Most stupidly buggy program I have EVER known. if it wasn't for the fact that many parts of it are good, and I'm only a hobbyist, I'd be damned furious. I like the program, love it in fact, totally despise the bugs and this encryption garbage.

Wow, e-on dropped the ball big time. It is ironic because you think e-on would have all their ducks lined in a row before they open a new web site and go to the Siggraph show. Instead well we know the rest... I stopped using vue too, but I have hopes I may begin again. I too am looking for alternate more dependable software from a company that treats its customes with respect. I'm sick of being called naive or impatient from people who don't know me from atom.
In hindsight I should have bought a highend professional program because the money, time, and frustration I waste with e-on has far surpassed it. Sometimes you really get what you pay for.

As a hobbyist, i can stick with it and hope e-on learns a few lessons from all this, improves their testing and rethinks their encryption scheme - since i purely love the creative power of Vue. Other than the encryption scheme and other Cornucopia stumbles, they have not been arrogant or stupid in my direct experience relating to them, but responsive and helpful (that is, putting aside all the reports of others, and based only on my personal experience with e-on). But, if i were a commercial user, it'd be very, very upset at this point.

I sometimes think we judge to harshly.. I understand some are aggevated at the sudden problems, since we were all sailing along fine and now it has stopped. I asked that all take a deep breath and give them time to recover. I am sure that E-On is working on the problem. You don't put so much into a software and then let it slide with the problems. I would be working my tail off to fix such a problem...really I think they are....sometimes it just takes time. Give them at least a week, before you just toss in Vue...this is not uncommon that software has bugs....lots of things to think about. Sharen

I love Vue, and will be sticking with it. However, I will say that Vue's customer service has always been their weak spot. I had problems buying Vue 4, and trying to get in contact with a real human took forever. They kept telling me to log on to their web site to get support, but the problem was that I couldn't log on. It reminded me of those ISPs that tell you to online for support, when your problem is you can't get online. :-P I really think they should dump this lame encryption scheme. Other stores get by without encrypting their products. They should be able to do the same.

I think Sharen's right, a month ago, we were all so happy to have Infinte and its incredible Ecosystems, excellent lighting models and many more features that worked quite ok. Now it's a big mess, and I'm pissed off too knowing that this mess is only about crappy ,useless and unfair encryption. I think they're learning their lesson right now, so give them a week or two. But then again, I don't use Vue professionally, I can be patient, have no deadlines. But I DO WANT my terrain editor back to normal!

Right, I have seen all the same complaints with version 3, 4 and 5....and I would admit you would think E-on would have learnt a lesson...but now things have changed. Now they are wanting to attract the "big" guys (I mean studios etc). If they let those guys down with buggy software then they will fall from a large height with a big crash. I agree Sharon that it's not unusual to have buggy software, but E-on have raised the bar with who they want to attract and how much they charge. I know that Cinema 4D, Max, Xfrog, Photoshop, Lightwave, Maya etc don't have such usability issues....and with their own press statements they are putting themselves in the same league as those guys. Now, I love Vue and even done publicity material for them, but unless I know that a software is reliable enough to do what I expect of it I won't rely on it...the reason I still use version 4 ;) I hope so much E-on make a success of it, but the way they carry out their beta program is suspect and I feel unless they really think hard about their process of testing and releasing software, then things won't change. I'm sorry people but if there was such a bug in software I am beta testing, then I wouldn't expect a fix for at least a month...just so they could be sure it had been fully tested. Rushing out fixes usually just means there may be another bug missed as a consequence of the work to fix the main problem. I so hope they work and fix things because I so want to trust it enough to purchase it. Cheers

If you have to use this software as a professional, you have your deadlines and you CANNOT accept bugs, that prevent you from working. If you go with Vue5I and it's unquestioned great features you're stuck and there is no way round. C4D, Maya and others may also have bugs, but not such generally blocking ones. So go into depth and solve the problem. Otherwise you lose a lot of customers, which lose their trust in your capabilty to provide a useful and productive peace of software.

I must echo Randym77's response. I have purchased Vue Infinite - back in late July but it is still according to My Account 'pending approval'. I checked with my credit card company and yes, it has gone through, E-on has my money but the program purchase has still to be approved. I have written to E-on and a lot more than 48 hours has passed and as yet, no response. I even tried calling them but got a 'number no longer in service. Frustrating..hell yes! Do I still like Vue - yes! :)

"but unless I know that a software is reliable enough to do what I expect of it I won't rely on it...the reason I still use version 4 ;)".. Ditto!...still observing how e-on works till date since Vue4..I'm waiting to get V5I once e-on is settled in public 'beta' testing it.

I have two small projects that I would like to finish. Both animated films about 5 minutes each. With the render farm up I can complete both in 6 months. I was hoping to attract some backers for a feature film. To do the quality and quantity of work will require the render farm to work and not just half the time. If things like this happen when I got doing the film, I would be telling the people who put up the money shit like Oh ,by the way remember the 14 months that I told you it will take to finish the film. Well it now four years. Dale

Irish the number to call is 503-372-9698 if they are busy just leave a message. I have called e-on's office several times and have had great results not sure what number you are dialing but this number is good. The only time I had a long delay was when I forgot to send in my academic qualifying information and then it took awhile but that was my fault for not reading correctly what I had to do. But the discount was worth the wait. I think for the most part e-on dose a great job aside from the Cornucopia fiasco. ;)

Thanks Vance Max - I will call again. :)

I'll take the liberty of repeating here, word for word, my post from another thread below:

I haven't installed any updates to my copy of V5I: beta or otherwise. And I'm not going to until this situation is straightned out.

On another note:

I haven't used my voucher yet, nor have I purchased anything from Cornucopia.

If the purchased content remains encrypted, then it's highly unlikely that I'll ever buy anything from that store.

Other than to use up the $50 voucher. But that'll probably be all of the business that I'll do there.

If I need plants, then I'll just buy them here at Rendo or at RDNA.

Get rid of the encryption scheme: and I might change my mind about doing business with Cornucopia. But until then, there are simply too many excellent non-encrypted models to be had elsewhere.

Encryption proves that one really likes one's models. Because the intent must be to keep the models entirely to oneself.

Or at least: that will be the result on this end.

Agree with you, Xeno. I have installed some updates but not the latest ones as I always wait and see what happens when more adventurous people do! As for the store... I guess I'll use the voucher - no reason not to - but I won't buy anything that's encrypted. Don't need that hassle as a hobbyist... wouldn't tolerate it if I was doing this profesionally.
