Subject: A Bit OT: Problems at CP

schtumpy ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 12:53 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 10:34 PM

Okay, I went to Content Paradise and picked up a couple things. I went to check out and it told me my order was put on hold and that my credit card was "High Risk." I've opened a ticket with them, but is this kind of BS common for this site? I'd never ordered from them before and was just curious. Never had any porblems ordering here. If anyone else has experience this kind of difficulty and can help me out I'd grea4tly appreciate it. Thanks Schtumpy

It is not uncommon for this to happen. in fact from what i understand it happens the first time you use that card or on every first order (i can't remember which). i've had it happen at other sites too. its no big deal. after it clears it won't... or shouldn't happen again.

IMHO instead of insulting a person by saying their card is "High Risk", they should just come to the point and have a message state "this is your first order, once your card is verified you will receive a download link". A much nicer response and doesn't lend itself to the person feeling insulted or bewildered.

Well, I've never had it happen anywhere. Sheesh, kinda bush league if you ask me. Schtumpy

I agree the wording isnt the greatest, but i appreciate the confirmation. But i may be a bit biased seeing as i just recently had some fraudulent charges on my checking account by someone who copied my debit card number.

If you read the info here at RMP, it tells you the same thing for first time buyers. They do tell you a little nicer though. I think it's common. Some sites even make you wait for them to email a DL link. It's all for thier and your protection.

It really seems like a needlessly tone deaf way to do business. It takes only five minutes to write a clear explanation of what the process is and not make customers feel that they are being singled out for special scrutiny. Since they don't have any direct human interaction, online merchants need to take special care to explain their policies to the customer.

better than what i got i buy a figure and the add-on morphs, unable to d/l figure still no answer about it from CP, got nothing for my money -_-

Acadia ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 6:28 PM

Speaking of replies from CP... I upgraded to Poser 6 December 30th. My purchase came with a 1 year CP Passport. When I tried to enter the number it wouldn't work. I wrote to CP right away. I just got a reply to that letter last week. My friend had problems with downloads from there last fall and she waited 2 or 3 months for them to answer her emails (she sent a few of them). She then telephoned them and got it resolved on the telephone. There is obviously a problem trying to get issues resolved via email for some reason, and you get a far better ... and faster response by telephone.

no phone number listed =P

Khai ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 8:05 PM

as Stated by Ryan at EF / CP "Sorry for the lack of response, we've had some problems w/ our customer service person and that is being resolved." and "starting next week yes you should be getting very prompt responses to your emails again. I'm sorry about the delays in contacting customer service." give 'em a chance.. sounds like they've had personnel problems..

I bought something today. It said that my order had been put on hold because I had never used that card before. It wanted me to enter the name of the bank on my card and the phone number for the bank. As soon as I did that, my order was processed.

pixpicws ( ) posted Mon, 20 March 2006 at 2:52 AM

Little suggestion to speed up the orders just setup a paypal account with just a CC on it. Ironically the only site I've used so far for content to ask to wait for a verification has been here.

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 20 March 2006 at 8:11 AM

I just used a new card there and was told it would have to be verified but they said nothing about high risk. Maybe your card is one or two numbers off a card that is high risk. See what they have to say in reply to your ticket. Marque

Well, after reading all of the posts .. I'm definately going to think twice about spending any cash at CP.

Just enjoying the Vue. :0)

Well, after reading all of the posts .. I'm definately going to think twice about spending any cash at CP. I dont see why. Ive seen all the same complaints lodged against other poser sites. Given the amount of traffic/sales at these sites the complaints seem rather few and far between. >Maybe your card is one or two numbers off a card that is high risk. I think one of the biggest red flags for "high risk" is using a free mail service such as hotmail or yahoo. I use a hotmail account as my primary contact and i seem to recall the words "high risk" when i made my first purchaces at CP.

Having had some pre-sales relations, I'm definitely not impressed. Hopefully, any problems CP has had or has don't impact the vendors who have exclusive arrangements too much. This isn't the first such thread I've seen here like this. They seem to keep popping up every so often. While I'd like to take it all with a grain of salt, I'm afraid I'd still never shop there.

Hopefully, any problems CP has had or has don't impact the vendors who have exclusive arrangements too much. someone mentioned a bit ago that their (and some of their friend's) sales are higher thru CP than directly thru Renderosity. Doesn't sound like they are hurting too much. >This isn't the first such thread I've seen here like this. They seem to keep popping up every so often. and so do DAZ threads, and Rosity and poserpros, and even Poserworld. I've only been around here for about 2 years and i cant think of a site that hasnt been accusing of screwing the customers or having crappy service.

FWIW they did admit having some customer service issues recently and that it had been addressed..... which left me with the impression that someone wasn't doing their job and got "reassigned". things change...and never is an awfully long time

Well, at least currently. :)

which left me with the impression that someone wasn't doing their job and got "reassigned".

Someone's always the scapegoat, but that's PR. ;) I'll admit to being biased about CP by accounts I might have heard. I currently have had no positive experiences shopping there like I do with Daz, Renderosity, etc. One of these days, maybe an irrestible offer (or sale) will happen along CP's site and join the chorus in praise of CP too. LOL :)

Actually it doesn't happen automatically on new orders.

We run every order thru a service that calculates its fraud risk and if you score above a certain level your order is placed on hold. The "harsh wording" is because I'm a programmer, not a marketing person. We've sent off to the marketing people to make it nicer. Sorry about that.

Schtumpy's case is a good example and his order was found to be a higher than normal fraud risk because he's using a free email service and the computer he's purchasing on was located over 900 miles from his billing address, these 2 items along with it being his first order with us caused his order to be deemed a "high risk" and put on hold. I only share this to give you an idea of the level of checking we do to reduce fraudulent orders and why your order might get put on hold.

Again I'm sorry for the harsh warning; I'm a programmer not a marketing guy. We'll soften the wording ASAP.

-Ry

Schtumpy, I should add that I marked your orders complete and you can download them now. -Ry

Thanks, but my billing address and the location of my computer is the in the very same house. Where do you think my computer is? I was sick that night too, so I was in a crappy mood. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers. Schtumpy

Odd your isp/our anti fraud service reports you as being in Phildelphia.

Anyway you shouldn't have the same problems next time around. We offset your antifraud score with your order history.

I wonder a bit whether there's a confusion between the IP address of a computer and its location. Here in the UK, a lot of ISPs are based in London, and there's no close relation between the IP address assigned to a particular "modem" and the geographical location of the other end of the telco line currently "connected". Broadband can do things a bit differently to dial-up, but I'd be wary of reading too much into nominal locations of IP addresses. If it comes to that, I usually use an email address on a domain I own, but all that means is that email goes to one company, which forwards it automagically to another, from where I collect it. And if I send email it may well go through a third company, who actually provide my physical connection. Still, despite that fuzziness, I've not had problems with Content Paradise.
