Subject: AsileFX's "What new in Vue6" OK for a Beginner?

ariannah ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2006 at 2:04 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 1:39 PM

Question - would investing in AsileFX's V6 training CD be useful to a complete Vue beginner?

I've been reading very good reports from those who have purchsed his CD.  Since I'm not rich but do want to learn, I'm hoping someone here can tell me if a beginner could make heads or tails of it?  I do have a strong Bryce background but realize V6I is going to be an entirely new experience.

Thanks in advance for any help or info you can offer.

hi, when you have a strong background from other programs like bruce you dont need the CDs.. ok Just play arround and view the demos - look at other pictures and scences and ask or thing about how they was made. ask in forum im sure many here will help you when you have a question.

Yes, it's a good choice for a beginner.  It doen't cover all of the items that the Getting Started in Vue 5 Infinite CD does, but all of the new items in Vue 6 Infinite are well covered.  Take a look at e-bay.  Many times you can find the AsileFX CDs for less.

Hi to you both and thank you very much for your replies.  Ebay is an excellent idea as well, so thanks Peggy, for the suggestion.

Peggy - did you purchase the CD from e-on or Asile's sight?  I'm worried I'd have to wait for e-on to process my payment after reading all the things I have on the forums as to their payment approval process.  I'm wondering if it would be better for me to buy direct from Asile?

schoesser - I haven't decided whether to buy the CD or not but am giving it serious consideration.  Trust me,  I will be asking questions in the forums.  I have scads to learn! I've also been very impressed both here and elsewhere by experienced users & their willingness to help.

I bought my CDs from AsileFX's site.  They offer download versions too, so except for large files (they split it into 3 200+MB files) you can watch them today!  Their bandwidth is OK - I have a cable modem and can download the files in about 15 to 20 minutes each.  Not speedy, but not crawling slow either.

While I have never used those particular CDs, I have read mixed reviews. Some, like Peggy whom I respect, say they are good for what they are. Others says they are tripe, and that the customer service from them is very lacking.

I have learned VUE simply from what others suggested. I hang around here, see images I like, try to reproduce them, learn as I go.

I only recently started learning the Materials function editor thanks to some free video tutorials here. I can't wait until that person releases their VUE 6 vids. That I will pay for.

i bought the download versions form the vue5 ones... they are ok and helps at some points - but the maintopics in the trainngs about the ui and the functioneditors .. ecos as well did i always learned by playing arround with vue.  thats why i wrote that i mean that you may dont need them when you allready read and do tuts from the net and have some exp based on bruce.

I've gotten a very fast start using Vue by using those AsileFX CD's to learn from. I have been pleased with them, and felt they were a good thing. The two aimed at beginners, Getting Started with Vue 5, and Whats New in Vue 6 are the best of them all. I had already begun to get the others by the time I watched them, all on my own, but those two were great just when I was most confused and needed help to ramp up to speed fast.

shoesser & Warangel, I do appreciate your input.  I'm going to think about it and in the meantime, search out all the free tutorials I can find.  Money's tight right now so free is always good.  I've also read the mixed reviews on Asile's CD's but like Warangel, respect Peggy's work very highly.  For that reason, I feel I owe it to myself to at least give them consideration.  I see that Gnomon has V5 training CD's as well but haven't yet seen any feedback on them so will need to do more research.

I think there's enough free tutorials, demos and forums to ask questions in to at least help me get started.  The hard part will be in allowing myself some time to get over the hurdle of becoming familiar with Vue and its interface.  In the past I've allowed that to defeat me before giving it a proper chance.  This time, I'm trying to change that and just enjoy the ride.

Rebel, thanks for your input as well.
I think we were cross posting so I didn't want you to think I left you out on purpose!

The two CD's you mentioned are the ones I've been looking at the hardest.  It's probably all I can afford right now.

I figured we had cross posted :) I was like you in a way. I have had experience in 2 other landscape creation programs, but not Vue. Nonetheless, there is enough about Vue that is different from what I was used to that I was glad to have the two Getting Started and Whats New videos to help. I think I would still be floundering without them, as finding a wide range of beginner level tutorials has not been easy for me. Almost all of the tutorial links I kept clicking on in the backroom kept showing as broken, and finally I just broke down and ordered the AsileFX tuts in desperation. I wonder if we are allowed to resell them when we are done with them?

I know what you mean about the broken links.  Luckily, I just discovered sacada's tuts from a link in another thread here.
I can already tell they are going to be a huge help.

As for reselling, why not email Asile at his site and ask?

I, too, am a big fan of Peggy's, though no relation to her;-)

My experience with the AisleFX CD's has been pretty bad, but I was looking to learn more than just beginner stuff. They sell advanced CD's which I purchased, and IMO were not very professional in either the advanced level, preparation, nor delivery. I usually don't care too much about some 'er's and 'ums', nor even a lot of boring redo's, but I have to say the overall bang for the buck was sorely lacking.

I made multiple attempts to contact them with only them ever answering my first email with a 'tough luck' answer. Once again, very unprofessional IMO.

I imagine the beginner CD's might help some newbies, but to me, the person doing the training himself was not all that well versed in the program. I suppose if one has money to burn, they can be of value in getting you up to a basic level of competence fairly quickly.
