Subject: 'Borrowed' images: anyone know XWALL..?

TerraDreamer ( ) posted Tue, 12 December 2006 at 11:08 PM

Girsempa, your links are incorrect.  The best way to get the links is to view the image on xwall full size, then right-click on the image to get the properties.  There you'll have the correct link.

gradient ( ) posted Tue, 12 December 2006 at 11:15 PM

@kjpweb:
Regarding your points;

  1. Agree fully!
  2. Yes, but good luck in doing so!
  3. I think you meant to say "start posting tiny and compressed images"
  4. I have asked Renderosity on several occasions to implement a standard Rendo watermark on the uploads if the artist wishes this.....No one here at Renderosity seems to be interested in doing this....probably for many reasons
  5. Trust me, this guy is NOT innocent....the uploads were by different posters...so, more than just the site owner/host are involved.  As for the "profit" part...of course the website is making a profit....perhaps the person that uploaded isn't directly profiting...but the webiste is there to make money....
  6. & 7) & 8) I guess we will see...
  7. Get the NJ  guys on the phone...

Quote - If he does not comply - then we should demand the removal from xwall

After spending 90 minutes there this evening, you'd have to close the entire site.  It's not just one or two individuals, it's several.

gradient ( ) posted Tue, 12 December 2006 at 11:36 PM

@girsempa and kjpweb;
Your idea of getting Renderosity to help you in some way in the form of a letter....is a good one....but I sincerely doubt that it will ever happen.  I don't think Rendo in any way wants to get involved...they will say they are just providing an avenue for you to host your images...if your images get ripped, it is not their problem.  And I dare suggest that the last thing Rendo wants is to get involved in any sort of litigation.....

Another point....remember Rendo wants the traffic here....they will never admit it but, that traffic includes rippers.  If they start putting watermarks on the uploads, a lot of folks won't come here because there's nothing to steal.....

Sorry for my rant...but I've been through this before, I have asked for changes and nothing has happened.  About the only thing you can do is consider whether or not you want to continue uploading...or upload with your own watermark that covers the entire image.

In youth, we learn....with age, we understand.

Well, I'd better leave my experience behind in favor of the history of humanity which says that redistribution, i.e. theft, of material goods is boundless and limitless, in time and space. It starts in slums and ends up in  high places. Most important here what you choose for yourself: to steal or not to steal. Techological progress just makes it easier and easier, for it never affects the moral. As long as this world is materal, there will be no end to it.

That fidato50 guy has tons of stuff from RR-members in his Xwall-gallery. I have only come to the second paige of his and have already found 2 of Rayburgs work. And as i´m looking further i see photos of abaltres, promislamb, shortribs, punaguy....and people who´s screen name i can´t remember. But he has definitly stolen quite alot of photos. Bann his ass! :blink:

Great job there Ulla! I saw that fidato50 has at least 4 of Rayburgs and a ton of erlandpil´s as well. I´m actually starting to feel a bit offended that nobody is ripping me off. :tt2:

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

LOL! Well i´m only human...and i do have an ego. :tongue1: As for what you said Klaus....they may be naming some of you as the artist...but certainly not all of them. Some i see they have no problem with taking full credit for themselves. I am just amazed that there are soooooooooooo many. I was thinking that maybe 2-3 photos were to be found that had been stolen...but it´s starting to look more like 2-300 just from this site alone.

Got any spanish speaking people here? I was reading the describtion of the image he had stolen from me...was my Colosseum-shot. And this is what he wrote:

"gracias a este hermoso pais...puedo decir que he conocido a la mujer mas espectacular del mundo...esa es mi esposa...lo que mas amo en la vida..."

And when i use Google language tool for translation i get this:

"thanks to this beautiful country… I can say that I have known the woman but spectacular of the world… that is my wife… what but master in the life…"

Huh? That makes absolutely no sense to me, lol. Is he referring to me as his wife???? :blink:

Hi Andreas,
its a bit strange indeed...I translate it like this:
Thanks to this beautiful country.... I can say that I have known the most spectacular woman of the world... she is my wife.. the one I love most in my life...
What the writer means is probably that thanks to (a stay in) Italy (where the coloseeum is) he has met a wonderful woman, which is now his wife, which he loves deeply.

One thing shocked me a bit: When clicking right on one of the pictures, there pops a window up saying "copyright by xwall".. maybe we should have this here too.. won't stop them from making screenshots but could remind them of their illegal actions..

Zacko ( ) posted Wed, 13 December 2006 at 7:11 AM

I for one am very interested in seeing how RR will deal with this. I sure hope they get banned from this site permanantly.

I havent bothered checking to see if mine have been lifter...the spanich thingy just looked too daunting...so I did something else instead.... I see a few ppl here are trying to watermark their images, and attempt other things, like upload low res images etc... This sort of fraud has been going on a looooong time, and some ppl have taken steps in the right direction. Im not sure if anyone here has heard of the cult of the dead cow (yes...I know it sounds dodgy...and yes they probably are) Theyre the hackers that coded, Back Orifice, back in the day... since then they havce come up with a system of inserting code, text etc... into images, so that it cant be seen normally, unless youre using their software to decipher it. You can even password the text message inserted into your image. Here's the link in case youre interested:

I wonder if any of the images there are original works. It seems to me, like a 'myspace'-type of site where people photo-share their favorite images. I'm assuming that's why you can see several people uploading the very same images.

Besides the work of many of the artists at RR, there's also many copyrighted images,i.e. movie posters,celebrity images, advertisements, etc. that this site is allowing. What's really ironic is the "copyright of Xwall'  you get when you right click!

As far as I'm concerned, the entire site is clearly  in violation of copyright law!
