Subject: Problem with Vue 6 Esprit update installation.

stormchaser ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2007 at 4:06 AM · edited Sat, 15 February 2025 at 12:33 PM

Sorry if this has already been mentioned here, but I'm having problems installing the latest update for Vue 6 Esprit. I run the file but this is what comes up "E-on software AutoUpdate experienced problems updating your software. Please ensure that you have enough space on the target drive". What's all this about? My Vue 6 Esprit is installed on my C Drive & I have 85 GB of free space. Is there a way to manually install the update, has anyone else had this problem? I guess I'll have to get in touch with e-on.

I have the retail version of Esprit, tried to download the update and install and it corrupted and disabled Vue.  So I reinstalled Vue and have not tried to install the patch since.  I wonder if this patch is for the Download final version only?

Check the permissxions of your folder or folders where you trying to update.   Uncheck if read only. :)
  Just curious if that might be your problem.     I had this problem on a laptop with xp on it and could not do an update untill I changed the permissions on the Vue 6 install folder. :)

I have the download version ... i do not like to pay 35 dollars to get it here :}

One little tip i do like to give .. windows like to "read only" things that are installed from CD..
Not all but sometimes parts or DLL's or files/maps get a read only tag..
That wil 95% of the time screw up any update pretty good 😉

Thanks for the tips.  I am running the retail as 32 bit on Vista x64.

I checked the folder and file permissions and all are Archive. Interesting thing though, the file dates and version numbers of the retail and the contents of the Patch are the same, even though the build is different. That is making me scratch my head since; most of you are saying you patched the download, versus the retail.

The Vue exe file will load, after setting permissions to Administrator and operating system to WinXp. But, I get crashes, lock-ups and all of the video driver problems I finally got rid of when using the 97 drivers. I do not have all of those problems with the NVidia Beta 158 drivers, so something is amiss.

Guess I will have to ask tech on this one or wait for a patch that says “for retail.”

Mmm well .... without kicking a Vista Butt ....
Running a 32 bit on Vista 64 can be the reason for the hickups...
I had Vista 64 installed on 2 systems and both had loadfs of update and install errors ..
All the 64 bit software installed did run smooth like a baby's bottom 😉
And the 32 compatible setting of Vista  not realy working,thats only driver related..

I hope you get this figured out..otherwise your in for a wobbly road 😉

Keenart, I would be interested to hear if you get any other advice regarding the patch with the retail version. I specifically wanted the boxed version, even with the added expense of postage, because I don't have the capability for really big downloads.

I too installed the patch for my Vue Pro Studio and it - well, just ceased to exist, really.  After installing the patch, I click on the Vue shortcut to start the program and Vista helpfully informed me that Vue had stopped working. That was it, end of story...

I re-installed and it is sort-of okay (although not very stable with the nVidia 158 drivers - the Main Camera screen does not update unless I click on it; Vue also crashes - usually before it finishes opening).

So, I have decided to leave Vue alone for a while - too frustrating and upsetting otherwise...

I have other 3D apps and they do not have the problems under Vista that Vue does.  Most of the problems seem to be Python related.  However, without installing the patch the retail works fine.

As far as the Nvidia drivers go, Nvidia 97 drivers worked fine on Vista, with the exception of Vue.  However, contacting NVidia and joining the Beta program, they have used the information I have sent them to update the Beta drivers and almost all of the problems that Vue exihibits under x64 Vista are gone.  Again, the major problem with Vue is that you cannot apply permissions or priviledges to the *.eon files, only the exe's and they are nothing but redirects for the shell.

I contacted tech last night and they sent me e-mail that confirmed this patrch is for the Final, and the Pre, which should be uninstalled and the Final installed before installing the patch.  Unfortunately, they did not answer all of my question, can the Retail also use the patch.  So I have resent mail with a better explanation and new question about the patch and Retail.

Since Subsurface Scattering is the only real problem left with Vue for me, a serious memory leak that locks up Vue and the OS, I will continue to work with NVidia to see if they can change the OpenGL to get Vue to work 100%.  e-On explained to me that the use of Subsurface Sattering uses the highest requirements of OpenGL and is intensely threaded to reduce rendering.  So either NVidia or e-On have a bit of work to do to get this corrected on Vista.  Ironically, I have the same problems when using WinXP, which are different NVidia drivers.

Otherwise, Vue actually works pretty good, for as intense an app as it now is.  They have really dumped the goodies into this version.  I will keep carrara but doubt I will go back.

WELL ..do you ever get a Video driver message when you use it the first time ??
I have Vue ESP installed on my mac and that did only give me a nice this "program stopped working" error.. with and without patch/update installed
What i did was saying YES use the basic Nvidia settings .. when i installed and run it the 1st time...

DONT do that .. i reinstalled the program and the patch..
Then it say's the video setting where not good bla bla bla ..and i SAY NO to the basic settings
And used the Cards drivers etc etc ,,and it runs like a dream...
So i fixed it and even the Suport from E-ON did not knew what to do.. when i say the program just stops ,,,
Now it OK and works on MAC and Windows perfectly...

Maybe this is any help with the video problems ..
I hope you get  what im saying ... for a Dutchman i think i explained it well 😉

rocco,

I posted before your post.  You might be able to stop Vue from crashing when opening, by right clicking on the Vue.exe file, select Properties on the Menu, then select the tab Compatibility, and checking the Compatibility Mode for Win XP.  Then down on the Dialog also check Run this program as an Administrator.  Vue should stop crashing when you try to open.

AS far as the memory leaks go, this seems to be caused by rendering.  Whether e-On used the SDK from Poser to write code for some of these higher OpenGl functions or not may be affecting the prog.  Vue will have to resolve these issues along with the video card companies.

When Rendering I found that under certain conditions Vue stopped using the CPU at maximum efficiency, stopped swapping out to file and immediately started gobbling up the memoy, until there was a crash. Changing driver versions makes a difference, but no settings in Vue made a difference.  This is probably related to the way higher functions of OPenGL address the use of onboard and shared memory.  These issues will have to be worked out by e-On, Poser, and NVidia.

Right now the only thing that is available to anyone is report all of the issue to tech to both e-On and the Video Card Manufacturers.  Microsoft is getting plenty of info so they do not need to be contacted.

BAR-CODE

Although I am third generation US, my g-g-grandmother was Dutch; we may be hard headed, but I have never met a stupid dutchman yet!!! Right?

In most cases the Microsoft basic drivers will work fine with Vue, if you uncheck the test this Video card each each time Vue opens.  The Microsoft drivers, as you say are very basic, and do not use OpenGl higher than 1.1 to 1.2.  The current 7600 drivers I have use OpenGL 2.1, and newer cards higher features.  I was told that OpenGL was actually testing around version 3.  So depending on the quality of your card, the OS, and the drivers you are using you may get mixed reactions with Vue.

I think all of this will take time to sort out, as NVdia Tech told me they had six years to work on the drivers for WinXP, and that is why they work so well, so they need a llittle more time to work on Vista.

So ... Your GG Grandmother almost MADE the US ;}
 About the Video cards etc etc..
I Did run a computerstore / Service /Repair for 10 years .. i know my way around computers 😉

Thats Why i dont use Vista ... i will wait for VIENNA in 2009 or even later...
We tryed Vista all versions on 20 + systems and the results are SAD ..realy SAD..
If you have it running and you dont have a other option make the best of it
If you have XP home Or XP PRo ..dont upgrade unless you realy realy realy have to...

Vue Runs LightSpeed fast On a MAC ..and a MAC MINI cost almost the same a VISTA Ulti...
And Vue for a MAC you already have hehehe

JUST to get back to the Original Question ....
DONT AUTO UPDATE ..download the update to your desktop en then install the update..
99% of the time that clears the No HD space error...
Usualy your HD has a Small partition of about 8mb that you cant reach or use on your drive
Sometimes the auto updates see that part or a virtual drive as a HD..
So try this downlaod and then manual update .. and i hope it works for ya.

Yeah, been in computers a longtime also.

Need the Vista, but do agree if you do not need it, wait.

Good info about the auto-update, as too many viruses get downloaded at the same time.  I like to download, put the file in the Temp folder and then run the scanners, just to be sure, before install.

So with the Mac, how has Vue been behaving?

So with the Mac, how has Vue been behaving

You know the difference between a T ford and a VIPER :}
On the mac the same scene are 4 time faster in rendering loading stuff and so are all most the same..

Its pretty damn fast on a MAC .. i dont used it to much on the mac yet ..because the mac is my modling system so not to much other stuff gets installed on it :}
But im saving money for a BIG BIG BIG MAC ..... why does this makes me hungry :lol:

OUCH!!!

If you are going for the "Big Mac," you may be saving for a long time, they are not cheap, $5000 the last I saw.

More Power!!!  That is an interesting thought, maybe someone will open a thread with a small sample image that we could all render, and see what the times are according to the Systems.

As far as the Tech Support goes, I doubt I will get a second response for a long time.  Usually the first response is within hours, and the second within weeks.

Attached Link: Tech Support Thread for Esprit Patch

I just received contact from e-On Tech Support concerning the newest Esprit Patch;

The e-on software support technician responded:
Hi Jan,

The latest update should install fine on the retail version.   Is the updated version crashing?  Unable to open?  What are the problems you are having?

Best regards.
Lee Randall

I have sent them an update of the problems encountered when trying to install the patch.  If interested follow the shorcut to the thread above.

Thanks for your reply keenart.

I had installed nVidia driver 158.18 prior to installing the Vue patch.

After the patch killed Vue, I uninstalled and reinstalled Vue. Now, I would have expected Vue to behave normally again BUT... not so. When Vue opened, all the views were black (had to load an object to clear this and be able to see the windows) and the main camera view stopped updating - this would only update when I clicked on it. Vue was also extremely unstable and crashed often.

I began to suspect 158.18 driver was causing other problems - my system began to behave erratically. So yesterday I did a clean re-install of Vista and have gone back to nVidia 100.65 video driver - I know this works okay!

Even though I think 158.18 may have been somehow responsible for my Vue update woes, I am too scared to use the Vue update patch, in case it all goes pear-shaped again!!!

keenart ( ) posted Thu, 26 April 2007 at 6:13 AM

I am having the same problem, and had to uninstall NVidia drivers back to 101.4. It would seem that the Poser SDK and the ProEngine.eon are not compatible with 158.

You should file an issue with tech support to NVidia and e-On about the difficulties. Tech has informed me they are hard at work and trying to resolve the problems.

I have tried all of the Vista drivers and the closest to the old WinXP drivers seem to work the best for now. Unfortunately, the 158 drivers work will all of my other 3D software with a good 30% boost in performance. So hope this issue gets sorted out soon as I want to go back to the 158 drivers.

Others on the e-On forum tell me they are not having any problems as long as they do not use OpenGL, so this is the main source of the problem for us. Vue uses OpenGL extensively for the newer functions, rendering, and memory threading, which is the current source of problems.

I recently saw a tech Newsletter, where NVidia is hiring more than a half dozen new Software Engineers at its offices, so they are not taking these issues lightly. I guess we are stuck in the middle, because I have installed Vue in Vista x64, x86, and WinXPsp2 and still have most of the same problems under each OS with the NVidia drivers.
