In my quest for what I will be able to do and what's probably not possible, I've tried this. I wanted to make a looser dress type, a little funky (you know the type). I first considered the formal dress using something on top of it for the sleeves-primarily for the long skirt, but its too full, other problems anyhow (and I haven't gotten at all good with magnets). So--I went with the adjustable skirt by John Stallings. I did not remap it-made the texture for the P4 skirt. Maybe that's part of my problem to begin with. I made the 'top'dress texture for the Tshirt and used the morphable Tshirt (forgot to look to see whose, but I will when I actually use this). Its morphing okay with the texture made from the P4 template-not too much distortion. I lengthened the sleeves and they look okay. The skirt, however, is very distorted with lengthening it. Would I be further ahead to just make a large texture map (probably by doing a lot of cloning) rather than try to use the template or would it do any good to use UVMapper and remap and do new template for John's skirt? Would that do anything at all do you think?? (Also, I haven't tried, but I'm hoping that I can somehow 'connect' these two pieces-with parenting through the hierarchy editor). I'm still working on the shape of the 'dress'-I'd really like a more straight shape overall and will try playing with the hip/abdomen of both pieces. Diane

You could try creating the texture on a map with the appropriate length width ratio and then (squishing )it to the original skirts ratio and applying it. you will get som pixlation in the length and loose some detail but with a hi-res map this could be minimised.

I had this problem Diane and a bit of guess work fixed it I use picture publisher so I'm not sure if this will work in your paint app but here goes.....i drew a mask around the skirt template but extended it to the approximate length the skirt will be when morphed (the guess work), then bucket filled the mask with the texture, then i made the mask an object and scaled it vertically till it was the size of the template...now the texture looks all squashed but when you do the morph on the skirt it streches back out again...does that make sense LOL......Steve

If the whole skirt is the same pattern, you might consider using a tile for the texture rather than actually mapping the skirt. Just a thought

It will still stretch though RJ as the morph is stretching the coordinates......Steve

You have to set that 'Perpetually tile textures when object is morphed' option. It's somewhere in some submenu of one of the sub-dialogs. Oh wait, that was in the wishlist for P5, never mind. Actually Diane, I know what kind of dress you're talking about. It's not that stiff 'bizness' skirt, it's more of a 'Sunday walk in the park' thing, right? Anyhow, your best bet is probably to morph the skirt where you want it in Poser, then export it as an object, map it in UV Mapper, and work from that template. Try cylindrical mapping, it should give you a template that looks like the skirt was split up the side and laid flat. Newc (stoking the fire with a short stick)

Several really REALLY good suggestions. I too don't think the tile thing will work because it does stretch whatever you texture with (I might get away with it in Bryce, though). I really like the idea of morphing where I want the skirt and then exporting as object and remapping. That didn't occur to me at all. See-it pays to ask because unless you are very experienced with Poser, these things just don't occur to you. And Steve-I know EXACTLY what you mean (miracles of miracles, huh?!? LOL) That sounds like a winner too-you have so much experience doing this sort of thing that I'm really glad you have responded to my calls for help. I'm going to try both ways. For you guys, this kind/shape of dress can go a lot of ways. This one is sort of 'granola-y' (as some of my friends refer to it), but this soft body shape can run the gamut from very classic, simple to real funky 'art to wear' stuff. If nobody minds, I'd really like to post some pics of the range that this shape covers-I have great hopes someone can create the model. Also-longish buttoned jackets that don't 'fit'-they could become hunky knit sweaters with TN under them, dress suit type jackets-lots of stuff. All you model builders/morphers-I'm hoping. For everyone's own edification, though--I'm strictly a pants type person-dresses are NOT in my wardrobe except for the mandatory 'one'. Being a self-employed craftsperson, I can dress however I choose and that's shorts and T's in the summer, longsleeve T's and what I call "Japanese farmer pants" in the winter-comfortable, the keynote. Now, for my shows, that's another matter-but I get to be 'arty'-sort of (smile), so don't let my requests for Poser wardrobe help give you ANY stereotypical ideas of me or MY wardrobe-he, hee, hee. Glad to help Diane I learnt a lot of stuff off folks here I'm just glad to give some back :o).....newc's idea is good too but how about this .....morph and pose it then export it from poser then remap it and resave the obj then texture it and import it as a prop, you'll lose the posablity but you could go to town on the texture knowing its not going to stretch in any direction..no good for animation though....Steve

Great, Steve. For particular projects, that's just terrific. Since I now know how to DO that export obj., remap, import as .obj thanks to you, this might be the very thing. Diane (well, just the other-Diane G., maybe that's the way--I do go by Diane B. on a ng where there are several Diane's, Diana's, Deanna's-I'll just use Diane B.)

RJ, I use Bryce a lot too, but if I am making texture maps for a particular item (with thoughts of in the future offering them in Funstuff or whatever), then I have to think of the Poser folks, so I'm trying to learn the best way to approach it in Poser for now. You didn't confuse the issue-only I can do that LOL. Diane B (sorry Bloodsong-I've used picnic for 6 years or so on the net, but have a tendency in comfortable surroundings to use my real name).

Boy, I just looked at the image-it really looks 'dumpy'-not attractive at all. I have improved it for myself by lengthening one, shortening the other, a bit of z enlargement, taper, etc., but a one piece sort of shifty shaped dress that it is lengthenable sure would be nice-lots of neat textures could be applied. Hi all: Diane, the kind of dress you made is exactly what I need for my project. I also need something like this for a girl model. I would love to try to make it myself, but I just purchased Poser4, and I don't know anything about anything on this program. Just something I would like to learn well. All this talk about morphing and all that stuff has my head pounding. So, here is my question. It's there a tutorial somewhere (other than PhilC's) that would tell me what to do, or can I purchase your dress and some other clothing. Could we have a genious from the forum make our clothes as we need them? I hope with time I can master the program and contribute something myself. Meanwhile, please help with suggestions or clothing. Thank you very much. Estee
