Yes, it is an ATI driver issue. ATI drivers are known to crash randomly. Odds are there is something in your scene the driver took a dislike to.Here ia a link I found. This is NOT about DS but Gamers also have this issue. Maybe it will help?

I find that DAZ Studio 1.8 and now 3 crash on loading a model when opened
UNLESS:
I go to the 'preferences' in the Edit menu (2nd along at the top) and click 'Apply' and 'Accept' as soon as I fire the program up.
They work fine after that.
Could be the same problem - happened under Windows XP and now Vista.
Regards
Peter
I don't really know about drivers, Open GL, Direct X and so on, but initially I had loads of problems with DAZ Studio crashing. Lots of advice from the DAZ Help Desk etc. (very patient people), checked versions of Open GL and Direct X (can't remember how) and they were OK. Also could not find a new graphics driver.
But sometimes Studio worked, sometimes it crashed. By checking over when things worked and when they did not I found that as long as I set 'preferences' as soon as I went into Studio (as described in my earlier message) and before doing anything else it worked fine. This is on versions 1.8 and 3 point whatever.
There have actually been times when I've forgotten to set the preferences and it has not crashed, but they are pretty rare.
I don't know why this gets over the problem on my machine - I suspect some memory / interrupt conflicts maybe to blame.
I thought perhaps this was the same problem as mentioned here, and that setting preferences straight away may solve these problems - a bit like throwing salt over the left shoulder, I admit, but it works for me. If the thing doesn't let you get that far then this doesn't help at all, unfortunately.
I explained it to the help-desk at the time I closed the bug report - which was for V1.8.2.1. The fact that I experienced the same problem with 3 was slightly disappointing but I was not altogether surprised.
It may be a bizarre quirk of my system, but as it's a bog-standard 'out of the box' Acer M3100-GETZ (bought in France so with French version of MS Vista) I suspect that there will be others put together in the same way and they may possibly have the same problem. Unless, of course, it's something I've added to the machine myself which is causing the problem, but adding the occasional bit of software is as far as I go with the thing.
Quote - I also had constant crashes and was unable to pin-point the issue so I dumped the new DAZ and am staying with the previous version
Too bad. Version 3 is so much better and faster, I hate going back to 2 and I loved V2. V3 is still technically a beta or just out of it. It does everything I want and more.
Magik,
Whenever I have problems with DAZ Studio, they always help me, whether it's that omniscient cat guy or a power user. One mistake I make often is not being specific. People come back at me saying, "I assume you're talking about DS3" because I constantly forget to mention which program is crashing. the DAZ forums cover more than one piece of software. For instance, here, it took you three posts before mentioning the error. I would have either ignored your post or asked you what kind of crash it was. More than likely I would have ignored the post because it would be like leaving a post on webMD and saying, "I don't feel well. Help me. "
i dont get that SentinelJeff , how would that be saying , i dont feel well ? but the issue is solved for me now , thanks to the pointing me to update my graphics card , i found out the issue on the net about the ati drivers , luckely i've got a new pc shortly after with nvidea graphics and this one doesnt dislikes something in my viewport LOL

I understand that your issue has been resolved. I was just saying that in your first post, you didn't describe the crash at all, which might be why you didn't get the help you wanted in the other forum. I work in tech support myself, and the primary problem in tech support is getting the customer to actually describe the problem.
I was saying that the first post was like telling a doctor that you don't feel well -- help.
I guess I'm using the wrong analogy.
I had a lot of those problems when I installed Daz 3 on my laptop back in July. (Vista HP)
I ended up re-installing the program into C:/Daz3, instead of /owner or 'program files' dir, and have'nt had a lick of trouble since.
Mine kept booting directly into 'quick start' and promptly dieing. It did not appear to be the graphics card, since the drivers were up to date.
