Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 26 2:05 pm)
I dont think so, I just did some quick tests but the light color was always the same as the actual light, regardless of the color of the semi-transperant (or refractive or transulent) object

I thought BB was able to make light traveling through coloured transparent objects change that light colour. Think it was in the node cult on RDNA...

If not, then just put another light inside the object shining the same color as the the object, and be done with the nonsense!

If I remember BB¨'s explanations right, it's not possible. Not without cheating at least. I once tried to make a stained glass window and not even BB could make it work L

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Oh, okay... maybe with the Gather() node? IDL? Grasping at straws...

What is "dia" an abbreviation of? I looked it up and this is all I found:
**Dia is a harmful status effect that burns the afflicted with light and illuminates their weaknesses until it wears off or is removed. Afflicted characters experience light Damage Over Time and reduced defense. As with other forms of DoT, damage dealt by the Dia effect will wake characters under the effect of sleep.
**
Poser won't do that. You need Final Fantasy. :O)
Seriously though, caustics is a subset of this with curved surfaces. Poser can't do it, so you have to find a way to simulate it.

I have tried to render the dia effect in carrara 7 express. And ? Yes, in this program it works. But the result is greycolored !
In poser 7 i see nothing on the second retangle. In carrara 7 express can i see a greycolored and zommed picture. Like a real dia. Now i must find a way to transport the color to in carrara !
BB said it can't be done in Poser (although it can be done in Firefly; just not Poser's implementation of it.). It's in the Fresnel Effect thread at RDNA...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."Without caustics, an object cannot transfer its colour to the light passing through it.
I can see something on the square in the Poser render - illumination from the light. Did you set Cast shadows on the square? Is the render Cast shadows option switched on? If you are using RT shadows, is RT switched on?
Carrara is showing illumination plus shadow from the transparency map, which is why it is inverted. With white light and white surface, this can only ever be grey.
I thought Carrara supports caustics.

Not really. We know that Poser can't do what the OP wants.
But the test renders in Poser and Carrara needed an explanation.

Quote - Explanation: If you stand in a church. In front of a colored window. You look down to the ground. You can see the light on the ground, falling through the colored window. It's colored in the same way like the windows !
the effect is called Caustics and no, poser cannot do it properly at this time with the render engine it has.
Can you apply a coloured "gel" to a poser light ? if you can, then you could put a pointlight or somesuch in front of the window with the gel on it and maybe fake it that way

Yup, we understood that.
Above is the same setup in Poser as you had in Carrara. You must have had shadows disabled in your test render.

Yes, you can. That might work, with careful light placement.

I asked about this a few years back see this thread for an answer on how to do it

That's a good link.
It's exactly the way I'm doing it above, except that the colours are coming from the spotlight's gel image map, rather than its Diffuse_Color.

it works in carrara with refractive squares of zero thickness (see att lnk). ask in carrara forum for details. they don't always answer the hard questions, but this is an easy one.in re: poser 7, the short answer is no. poser 8 or later, yes, but it's either gonna be a lousy-looking
diffuse effect using IDL and translucent channel and some fake lighting tricks, or a crazy-looking
effect involving a coloured image map applied to diffuse and/or specular channels of directional lite.
it's not strictly a caustic effect, as it works in carrara with caustics disabled.
Yes, sounds simple with this projection.
Here the complete idea:
The only houses i know with colored glass are church and similar.
You stand in the building, through the windows can you see the colored lightrays and the projection on the ground. Outside the sun is moving, the lightrays and the projection moves with the sun. That's it.
This is not strictly caustics, but simply colored transparency, and as has been pointed out, I've been told by stewer that Firefly can do it. A caustic is a focus/defocus of otherwise near-parallel light beams from the source, causing localized variations in luminance that don't obey the inverse square law.
Color transparency could be performed easily if only the Poser Surface "Transparency" channel was a color instead of a number. I can't remember why this was not exposed. Might be in a future version. The code is already there.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Quote - What poser version do you use ? Version Nr. ? Standart or pro ?
Sorry, I missed your question because I signed off the thread.
You can do this in any Poser version that allows connection of an image map to the diffuse colour of a spotlight. P7 supports this, I don't know about P6 or before.
I use PPro2010.

Is it impossible to render a real dia effect in poser ?
Light is falling through a colored front object and colored the white object behind ?
