Subject: PP2012 Pre-order voucher problems

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2011 at 1:42 PM · edited Tue, 28 January 2025 at 5:29 PM

I can't remember so please bare with me here..

I thought I paid for the above voucher already.. I just tried to redeem it at SM and they want my CC details again which means another $180, so paying twice..

Am I right in what I think about the voucher or has my memory finally failed me into my old age..

TIA

Another monumental cock up it seems..

Hi

I'm not having any luck either.

My order history shows my order for Poser 9 but the cart shows Poser Pro at $150 and won't except my code because it's for the wrong product.

I haven't recieved a new e-mail since my order confirmation.

Mike

This sounds reasonable. Cannot you just remove Poser Pro from the cart and put Poser 9 in?

MikeMoss ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2011 at 2:32 PM

It won't let my change the cart.

I wonder if I've already been charged me the $79?

I could just cancell the whole thing and buy it at the regular $99 upgrade price.

I had to log in to my account, at my coupon voucher to my cart and then I had a 0.00 balance click submit and then I got my download, only paid once and that was on my preorder.  Went really smooth. Sharen

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2011 at 2:33 PM

I've just solved mine. I logged into my account at CP [not where I ordered from] and the voucher code was in my account there and it worked, I'm now downloading part 1 of many..

I logged in at the Smith Micro store where I ordered. The item I ordered was for a "voucher redeem". I didn't enter any code because I thought that meant the system knew I had paid already. It directed me to paypal and only once I had confirmed, did I realise I had paid twice.. I should have paid more attention, instead I paid more money....I started a ticket as well.

I called them this morning and the guy I talked to took about 10 minutes but got it fixed so I could use my voucher.  If you can call it's best. I tried everything and nothing worked until he went in and fixed the problem then I was able to use my vouchers correctly. Also he said I would get an email with the download info, that was 5.5 hours ago and no email yet, I think they are a bit overwhelmed today.

There's another problem now...I just noticed that the expiry of my download links says Oct. 20th..Today?? Now with over 5 Gig of stuff to download I haven't a hope in hell of getting them all done tonight, so does that mean I lose them after today..!!

I have asked in a ticket...[sigh].

I finally got it to open my shopping cart with Poser 9 shown in it.

But it won't accept my Voucher Code.

It says required products not purchased.

I tried a number of times.

If I didn' think that they had already billed me $79 I would just go ahead and pay the $99 and get it over with.

I guess I'll have to start a ticket with support, I keep hoping that the e-mail with the correct link will show up.

I called them and it took him 10 minutes to fix it so I could get it. Had tried everything. If you can call it's best. I tried putting in my code 3 times and it said it was expired. The guy at smith micro had to physically go in and fix it. Hoping you're in the states so you can call...or there may be an international number on the website.

Woo Hoo!!!

I got it fixed.

I submited a ticket and recieved an answer within a half hour.

It had a link to my cart with the Poser coupon listed as purchased.

I just had to enter my voucher code and continue to check out.

I ordered the hard copy so now I'll have to wait but it's on it's way.

So if your still having problems I'd put in a support ticket.

So sad that you are having issues, I had none and I got mt voucher about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Of course I started my voucher this morning at 5 am but the down loads took till 11 am to download.

moogal ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2011 at 5:45 PM

Worked for me.  Cost another $10.85 to get it shipped, and now I just have to wait for it.  Not quite sure why I opted for physical distribution.

MikeMoss ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2011 at 6:27 PM

I always go for the physical package, I like to have the box.

When I do download software the first thing I do is make a install disk, with a lable etc. so it looks like the hard copy.

Now I can get backt to trying to get Widows 8 to install.

It doesn't want to load my video drivers.

I tend to still expect a manual for some silly reason.

I'm enjoying Win7, it's going to take a lot for Win8 to seem absolutely necessary.

Did anyone notice that three of the feature videos are still "coming soon"?  I have yet to see the new OpenGL preview beyond what can be seen in the dragon video.  That for me was the most exciting feature announced.  Still no video.

In response to the incident ticket, SM fixed something and in the reply to the ticket sent a link from which to place the order.  This time the price was correct and it accepted the voucher.  I ordered physical shipment, so TrekkieGrrrl can get her download finished!  ^^

When you "purchased" the pre-order voucher your CC was not charged.  They sent you a pdf file with emedded links and a download for early adopter badge.

Download the pdf file.  When opened, you are asked if you puchased directly from SMS or from CP.

If you purchased from Smith Micro click on the link.  If you purchased from CP, click on that one.

I didn't need to enter the voucher code because I purchased from SMS directly.

If you click on the link and have to log into your account, log in and click on order history.

You should see a listing for pre order voucher for whichever version you ordered.

Click on the order number.  You should be taken to a shopping cart that has the app at the pre-order price and the EDS.

If you don't want the EDS, click on remove.

Go through the checkout.  This time, you CC is actually being charged for the transaction.

Pre-order vouchers must be redeemed by the end of the month.

If you didn't buy the EDS, you still have 30 days from the date of purchase to d/l your order.

If you purchased pre-order from CP, you will need your voucher code.

Umm yes it was actually, and I have the CC statement that proves it..

Some people have been charged twice, it was a stupid way of doing it, more complicated than it need have been..

I wasn't charged twice because I saw it in time..

Hi

It was the most complicated way possible of doing something simple.

I preorder things from Amazon all the time.  I just place my order, when the item becomes available they ship it and bill my credit card.

My guess is that this was done this way to get some money into the company ahead of the release.

I don't think it's strictly legal to charge for something before it can be shipped, so to get around that they sell the Coupon for $79.99.

You aren't purchasing the software you are purchasing a credit, like a gift certificate.

This allowed them to get an influx of cash in a hurry, why else go through all of this.

If they has actually sent out all the e-mails the morning of release it would have helped a lot, the e-mail I got from support cleared it all up in a minute, but I never got one until I asked.

moogal ( ) posted Wed, 21 September 2011 at 2:23 PM

It was a way to get the money in one quarter while still shipping the product in the next one, I believe.  It had something to do with meeting revenue forecasts.

I'm having no luck finding the explanation though, it seems the links now point to the wrong page.

I suspect it was more to do with avoiding CCs expiring between pre-order time and shipping time. The dates for their quarters would have to be rather awkward for the 20th to be the start of one.

moogal ( ) posted Wed, 21 September 2011 at 5:43 PM · edited Wed, 21 September 2011 at 5:44 PM

Maybe it's not quarters, but it had something to do with that.  Maybe they just wanted really strong initial sales... Doesn't explain it, though.

If the blog post were still up I could clarify it better.  This link should explain it, but now it takes you to another page.

Their blog appears to be broken, as none of the article, category, or page links work (i.e. what are supposed to be permalinks, aren't). The article you mentioned is still visible but only from -> http://blog.smithmicro.com/

I think we're both right, in that they are guaranteeing all the pre-order revenue without having to wait until they actually ship product.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Wed, 21 September 2011 at 7:19 PM

that is correct.

the accounts dept wanted the money in one Quarter but P9/2012 wasn't going to be ready to ship until the next Quarter.

the comprimise was, buy vouchers in the Quarter the accounts dept wanted the money to go onto the profit sheet in, then redeem them when Poser was ready. basically Pre-Ordering it, just like you do a DVD or a video game.

no biggy.

What a bad and stupid company. Why should I not pirate the next issue of their software? Iv sent them money, but got no delivery. I call that fraud or incompetence.

Seems, they have a calling agency in front, what is bouncing back all questions by text modules.

N8Dreams ( ) posted Thu, 22 September 2011 at 7:06 AM

actually, they went offline.......guess, blushing red.

UPDATE

after a long, long, long distance call with 1 949-362-5800 (its SmithMicro itself)

I figured out:

The voucher doesnt work. SmithMicro knows that.

You have to call'em, they will activate/redeem your voucher manually. Then you have to enter your SmithMicro account for downloading the reduced software.

Any other procedure doesnt work, especially not the online customers service. They have no clue and are bombing you with text modules.

I hope, this helps.

I had no issues, used the instructions exactly as described in their email.
