Subject: SimOne Merchant Resource Discussion

ok ... last post for tonight .... but with a few questions ....

I am still trying to un-hook the stuff for getting rid of the blue tint around the lips and eyes .... so I will be point blank .... is it the "scatter" node overlap that causes this?

When is that set to be done?

What will be the cost so I can start saving up .... ?

My next requested project is from a friend who wants a sexy drow elf actually .... so a dark black/blue/purple skin option would be ideal ... then white lashes/brows and glowy tatts etc ... hhhmmmmm

Quote - ok ... last post for tonight .... but with a few questions ....

** No problem! my computer is going to shut off on me after it updates, anyway. Why is Windows XP updating...its kind of obsolete, but whatever, on to questions!**

I am still trying to un-hook the stuff for getting rid of the blue tint around the lips and eyes .... so I will be point blank .... is it the "scatter" node overlap that causes this?

** The SSS causes glow sometimes. There's no way to get rid of it; 3D World Magazine made a comment about this when they reviewed Poser 2012. Tweak the Texture_Detail/MaxError numbers until the glow is less visible. True point, though: that glow is heavily scene-light dependant; no matter how well you fine tune your materials that glow can still show up.**

Now...for your particular problem, there's a common solution bagginsbill turned us all on to: turn Visibility to "Off"{ in Parameters tab} for every piece of hidden geometry in the mesh. Since V4's mouth is blue or glowing, then you've been rendering with her upper and lower jaw actively Visible at render time when SSS was used. Turn her jaw invisible and you'll be fine - assuming her mouth is closed:P Unfortunately there's no sense turning the eyes off unless they're closed...so they'll still glow.

What causes this blue tint and this glow? Well, basically: SSS calculates shadows(blue) or light(glow) when it encounters something immediately near the skin, like teeth, gums, and eye balls. A good SSS calculation would not do that.  So...Poser's SSS isn't as awesome as it initially seemed but it is still pretty good looking!

Take a look at this.  There's glowing all over this SSS render.

When is that set to be done?

** It's done. I'm just checking and re-checking everything. And then re-checking. Promos are done. I just have to upload it.**

What will be the cost so I can start saving up .... ?

** I'm guessing $19.99 or one leprechaun's gold piece.**

My next requested project is from a friend who wants a sexy drow elf actually .... so a dark black/blue/purple skin option would be ideal ... then white lashes/brows and glowy tatts etc ... hhhmmmmm

All that? I can do that in the third set...fantasy SimONE! That's what I was planning on making anyway but I've no idea what other merchants would want in that kind of resource so this is a great beginning for direction!

That requested project I mentioned is what she has asked me to make ... and it sounds like your SimONE 2 might work if it has that color option ...

This render is the same pose, figure and lighting, just different setups ... nothing has been made invisible, and I just tossed my jpg maps in place of others .... oh and different lashes ...

The one one the left looks best, in my opinion. Where's the glittery one? I want to see that one when you release it

The lids were blue? Totally missed it. Sorry! I must have glazzed over with the OH PRETTY mentality!

I submitted SimONE 2. In review now:D Thankfully! Doing some last minute changes.
But it won't make a blue - well, maybe it CAN make a blue-skinned V4 but you might have to come bug me again:P     or are drows dark skinned? Nevermind...I don't even know what a drow is, actually! I think its a dark elf. But then, elf, elves...Keebler Elves: all the same to me! I'm fantasy-racisit! LOL

Right; you just plug you color_math node into your Scatter node's "color" input - the same place you have your torso map plugged in.

Oh and you're better off having only the image map plugged into the Diffuse channel since Poser can not preview the makup overlay.

That ought to do it!

SimOne 3: Sadly, no. I had too much content in the set for the servers;  had to remove a lot:( Still very cool though with what remains. It should be in the stores(barring any mistakes on my part) by the end of the month:)

The Birthday say is on now though, so you can always grab SimOne 2 if you need it. SimOne 3 is themed for a tree, lava, and marble-rock. Also, there's a set of 3 full-body reflections for metal Victorias or Genesis. And...the rest is a lot of 3000x3000 JPEGS for use in texturing. And, as usual, I included some Poser-specific materials(non-SSS and SSS) to help everyone out. Daz, Max, Zbrush-users will have to make their own MATs/Shaders. Here's a render of the plant-like chica from SimOne 3 made with...SSS in Poser 9.

Is that so, and where could I get it, please?

stare pretty render!

Hm...that's Corvas' "SimpleDetails V4Lite" product.

Now there's a new FREE weight-mapped edition of V4 so you don't need any "fixes". If you google "WMV4: Weight Mapped Victoria 4" you'll find the newest V4 edition - its free:D

My promo used old-school V4 with the fixes from Corvas. If you don't want to upgrade to WMV4, then definitely stick with Corvas' products.

And the body morph in the top-right is from my own free Kenya: Ireland and the other body morphs are from a certain product not sold here(site mail me if interested). I'd list it here but that might take business away from renderosity.

WHERE IS ALL THE ORANGE COMING FROM?!

That was going to be the subject of my post if there was a place to put one- but anyways, Hello!

I really love this skin and have been using it to produce my first commercial character: Myranda.  However I've run into a frustrating issue with the eyes, eyelashes, skin texture shadows and the subdermal mask texture after rendering in Poser 9.  I am using the Pro skin version with raytracing and sss.

The issue is that everything I listed above contains an amber/orange hue that I cannot get rid of.  NONE of the texture files I've modified contain any orange, only purple; or in the case of the eyes, white.  You can see the modifications in the attachments I've added below.

So my questions are:

  1. Why are the eyelashes orange by default? I have to go into the materials room and manually change the color to black.  I would like the eyelashes to load black by default.

  2. Why do the eyes contain orange elements in them?  I have to load eyes from a completely different model (ie Lanaya for V4) to make the orange in the eyes disappear.

  3. Why are there orange/amber hues in the shadows of the texture map?  I have no idea where this is coming from, as the lights I used were white only light.

  4. Why is the subdermal layers appearing orange still when light passes through my model's ear for example in the picture below?  Why is there blue around her mouth and ears?

Any insight and help that you can provide me would be sooo appreciated as this is THE best and premier merchant resource skin texture I have yet to see made.  Other than my concerns, I want to say VERY excellent job on this project!

Thanks,

Greta

Orange eyelashes and in eyes and orange shadows

More orange and blue can be seen here and the orange in the subdermal

Here you can see more blue around the mouth and right here and better see the orange subdermal, even though I recolored the subdermal purple

Quote - WHERE IS ALL THE ORANGE COMING FROM?!

The orange comes from Florida, Charlie Brown :P No, seriously...let me jump right into the questions!

I'll do my best to address everything. Making your first commercial character is a huge undertaking and I know how horrid  - and wonderful - it can be.

The issue is that everything I listed above contains an amber/orange hue that I cannot get rid of.  NONE of the texture files I've modified contain any orange, only purple; or in the case of the eyes, white.  You can see the modifications in the attachments I've added below.
Right away, I know the issue you're having is with the shader. You see, the Pro shader is setup for a caucasian human - you see where I'm going with this, of course. It's going to take some manual(oh, don't make that face!) work with the nodes to change that orange hue to anything else.

So my questions are:

  1. Why are the eyelashes orange by default? I have to go into the materials room and manually change the color to black.  I would like the eyelashes to load black by default.

SimOne has light-red hair(in my head anyway. Her lashes match her eyebrows and pubic hair).
Best thing to do is just re-save the shader into your library how you'd like it setup. After all, its a merchant resource; don't feel bound by my setup. Believe me, I have about 20+ unreleased versions of SimOne with all sorts of variants.

  1. Why do the eyes contain orange elements in them?  I have to load eyes from a completely different model (ie Lanaya for V4) to make the orange in the eyes disappear.
This issue is most probably the shader itself. Best to manually adjust it to suit your needs, then resave this new shader to the library.

  2. Why are there orange/amber hues in the shadows of the texture map?  I have no idea where this is coming from, as the lights I used were white only light.

Most likely culprit here is the made-for-caucasian shader system used in Pro. My guess right now is that the subdermal map might be over-powering your purple skinned elf. You can actually delete the subdermal map and it shouldn't cause much trouble to your setup.

  1. Why is the subdermal layers appearing orange still when light passes through my model's ear for example in the picture below?  Why is there blue around her mouth and ears?
A two-parter!Okay, first is...the torso_mask is setup to make things a bit orange over the nipples, vagina, and ears(where there's lots of blood flow). I can do some screen shots about how to manipulate it if you'd like - just let me know!
Finally, Poser's SSS feature isn't perfect by far. The simple answer is: anything under the skin that can have its visibility turned needs to be turned off[not just transparent, just invisible in raytracing. Its an option in your properties tab]. For instance, the upper and lower jaw need to be set to invisible during render time or the SSS feature in Poser will make the skin above/around them a slight blue. That's our only fix for now until next version of Poser, maybe. I know I covered this top a bit more in this thread...its in here somewhere!

Any insight and help that you can provide me would be sooo appreciated as this is THE best and premier merchant resource skin texture I have yet to see made.  Other than my concerns, I want to say VERY excellent job on this project!
Thanks! I do try! I'm actually working on a puple elf chick for SimOne 4 or 5! Not even close to done though so smeh to that.

Thanks,

Greta

Working on SimOne 4 in Poser 9sr1

So far I've got the default version and the sticky-mess version. You're seeing a low quality vs. high quality render of the messy version.
This is - as always - a Poser exclusive :)

Note: the "mess" maps are a WIP; they changed between the high and low version renders you see here. You'll notice a difference in skin/mess areas.

corinthianscori ( ) posted Thu, 14 June 2012 at 9:15 PM

Also, I'll demo how to use those masks that come with SimOne 1-3. I'm aware that  - as merchants - you have to make concessions for Daz users. I try to make shaders handle a lot of work that many more maps could do yet this does not translate well from Poser to Daz Studio. That can't be helped (SORRY!)

I'll go over how to use the masks to add two or more material zones to a single material and how to have two or more specularity, diffuse, transparency, or whatever in your work.

In order to protect the usage(and your purchase of) SimOne 1-3 I'll be keeping the screen shots kind of tight but I'll make sure you know what's going on.

Ack. I forgot this WiFi place closed so early on a Friday.

Anyway, here is SimOne 4's monokini version. Its an alpha map and procedural bump/specularity/displacement/texture.

As you can see(and as usual) there is one uniform material for the skin and one uniform material for the suit. In other words, the suit is shiney while the skin stays nice and skin-like. Nothing worse than painted-on clothing that doesn't respond to light/shadow! You won't have to worry about that with SimOne!

You'll be able to make your own alpha map and then drop it in place as usual. if you want to  make a repeating texture for the bikini you can do that too. Just shove it in where I have the procedural material - its no big deal!

corinthianscori ( ) posted Sat, 16 June 2012 at 12:26 PM · edited Sat, 16 June 2012 at 12:33 PM

And here's the base version of the drow, or...dark elf. I admit I have no real idea what a drow is. If you respond with, "its a dark elf!" please understand I have no idea what a 'light elf' might be.

You know something? To me, elves make cookies and they're not taller than two feet. shrug I like sci-fi :P

So...this is SimOne 4 base with some shader tricks thrown in to change the color of her skin and alter the eyes. You'll notice that the eyes resist shadows and glare yet retain a slight gem-like quality. The general concensus on the web is that drows have some weird white-eye thing going on that makes them able to see best in the dark. Again: shrug I like sci-fi :P

All soft-skin areas have been tinted black. The lips, areolas, labia, inner-ears, inner mouth, and gums have a slight darkness to them. This is in contrast to the default SimOne 4 which loads with a caucasian look and light areas of soft skin.

This morph is called "Sugar Plum" as is free somewhere on the web, for Victoria 4. I love this morph, by the way. Also in this morph is Niki by !!Ariah, also for free on the web.

Now, concerning morphs...I assume that everyone has V4's creature morphs or morphs++ and can dial-in their own elf ears. If any merchants out there need me to make new morphs for this episode of SimOne speak now or forever hold your gold piece! hehe

There's a standing request for tattoos. No big deal - I can make those and keep them original. The question - though - is: do you guys want full-body tattoos or just 5x5 tats to lay on V4 by yourself?

Finally, as per, Savaena's request, the ears should render a nice pink instead of orange. hehe

Ears are  not hard to do ... as as tatts .... at least for me .... they do have white hair for brows etc ..... if that helps ... Make it darker? It IS darker :P Its the lights making the thing look lighter - yeah that its! runs away

Actually, I made one node so you can decide the color of this elf. You can make her green if ya like! Oh and the eye brows and eye lashes are going to be white for sure. I totally forgot about the lashes. Knew something looked off! Well then the brows are going to be on that EyeBrow material zone with a trans map so those can also be any color you like.

And of course you'll get the shader tricks! always will with SimOne! Simulation One! but now its up to four so...

Yeah, we're gonna go with this :D The glowing tattoos are easy enough; only two nodes and you're done. I'll leave that to you guys(ask me if you need help with it)

This set is all done! I'll add some swirly tattoos somewhere online and give the link soon as I can. First, package Simone 4 then release it. Packaging/promos takes forever on my slow machine:D But no excuses!

I am zipping the files up today to send to first wave testers ... then RMP .... after she passes those testers and I get some promos done ....

Just thought I would answer this with an update for you ....
