I use dynamic cloth almost exclusively. I prefer it. But I also prefer to make my own. I can't and don't buy anything for Poser...

I can use either.  Sometimes, Dynamic Clothing can be messy to handle, other times, they are the only thing to work with in a situation.  Conforming can sometimes be more effective, depending on the project.

Rokket said it. I love dynamic but I prefer to make, because it's fun. I don't think I have bought any dynamic clothing.

If I had both dymanic and conforming versions of all my clothing items, I would use the dynamics almost exclusively. They just look BETTER.

I have bought (I believe) every male clothing item available as a dynamic, and a large proportion of those out for females.

moriador ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 1:17 AM

I use both.  Depends what the item is, but if a dynamic option exists, I use it. Most of my clothing purchases here have been dynamic. I've also converted quite a few conforming items and use those whenever possible.

I think I have enough dynamic dresses. So, now, when I buy dynamic clothing, it's usually because the textures are excellent. I wish more texture artists would create addons for existing dynamic clothing.

This is my problem with dynamic.  I love the cloth movement but I like to model details into my stuff and it just sort droops away :(

That being said I havent experimented extensively and for short sims (like quick pose and drape) the detail will sometimes survive

edit forgot to answer the question

sometimes use them, no real preference between one or the other, would likely not buy them unless they were exceptional (but that is the same with conforming lately)

Yes I do use dynamic clothes.

Yes I buy dynamic clothes.

I do not realy have a preference.  Dynamic clothes look good, if simulated properly, and comforming, if they have anough morphs to achieve the pose :)

Both, depending on what I'm creating and the problems involved if I use one or the other.

If I have time, I prefer to model or modify the cloth or object I use as a static prop or as a morph without a simulation, sometimes it's more easy or faster to use simulations.

yes, i use dynamic, and would buy dynamic( only if the detailing made it worth it)

i can model basic stuff myself, but not too good with the detailing.

i also use conforming, because of the extra detailing that can be achieved.

I use dynamic, prefer dynamic, even convert conforming to dynamic when possible. I don't buy much but something being dynamic would not be a deal breaker.

I use dynamic clothes a lot.

Sometimes I buy some, but I prefer to make them myself.

I prefer to use dynamic, but some things cannot be made dynamic, like shoes or rigid armor. I think it's easier to make dynamic clothes especially with programs like Marvelous Designer. I also made conforming clothes but it's lot more work than dynamic and they don't always look that good.

Yes, I use it and have even made parts of some conforming items dynamic to get better use out of them.

I have bought dynamic clothing but usually it has to have details modelled into it and not just a simple sheath or wrap  that lots of dynamic clothes are unfortunately.

I don't prefer one over the other, it depends on what works and looks best in each individual case.

I use dynamic clothing most of the time. I think conforming clothes are great for new people and people that don’t have the cloth room skills they need to get the clothes to look right. Plus, it takes patience and a strong machine really helps with dynamics. Conforming is great and I use and buy a lot of them. But, IMHO, dynamic just looks better.

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 10:38 AM

Love dynamic clothing.  I can't model things, but I use freebies, I buy, and I'm gifted with them.  Each clothing type has it's pros and cons.   What I love about dynamic clothing is the ability for the clothing to follow the pose, resulting in a far more realistic look/flow of the clothing in relation to the body position.

Gremalkyn ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 11:33 AM

I do not use clothing very much since I tend to body paint the nekkid toons to get the general look I want.  Body paint has no problem matching the pose, colors and textures however I want, and scales to whatever I do to the body. :)

Back when I played with clothes to see what they would do, I liked conforming better since it just jumped where it was supposed to go instead of having to be placed - that can save a lot of time when working on a set of poses for a themed project.

I have bought some clothes that I like and will probably use them soon - I think they are all dynamic, but I never pay attention to that when I buy.

JohnDoe641 ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 11:33 AM

Dynamic is all I use now, it looks so much better imho and once you have the clothing you can basically make it work with any human figure by simply adjusting its size.

aRtBee ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 11:36 AM

I like clothing that can do both, that is; conforming clothes that behave well in cloth room. Well welded, single sided, all the cloth groups defined in relation to the material zones, etc.

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.

pigfish9 ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 11:39 AM

Yes, I do.  I prefer dynamic over conforming because you usually don't have to worry about poke-through; they drape more naturally; and they fit any morph of the character.  I also definitely buy them.  I'm usually asking Karanta for a closet any time a new figure is released.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 11:41 AM

Do you use dynamic clothes?

Sometimes but not often, too much work and they end up as mangled crumples most of the time.
Would you buy dynamic clothes?

Yes, if it is the right style.
Do you prefer conforming or dynamic?

I prefer dynamic but rarely have the time or patience for it and they don't work most of the time so I use conforming more often.

No I don't use them, no I don't buy them.

The reason is I am too lazy to figure out how to work them.  That's sad right.

But I have a question:  can't you make any clothing into dynamic?  I thought if it was conforming you could still use it as dynamic in the cloth room.  Maybe I'm an idiot, most likely actually.

Yes*.

  • (But I make and drape them in MD, I don't use the Poser cloth room).

Would you buy dynamic clothes?

*No. I make my own in Marvellous Designer.
I might buy MD dynamic clothes files if there was something I wanted available.

Do you prefer conforming or dynamic?

*It depends on what I'm doing. Conforming for sci-fi clothing and armour etc. Dynamic for flowing clothing - dresses etc.

Hi, I only use dynamic when I have to.  Somehow a complication always arises during use.  But saying that I do buy good dynamic clothes (as long as they don't look thin).

My preference would be for the same outfit in both a dynamic and conformed version.  they dynamic for closup shots in my comic, and the conformed for say crowd scenes with prison clothes or school uniforms etc.

Probably not...

Conforming, unless it needs dynamics like a dress, skirt, robe, etc. for realism....or if the character does not have a lot of conforming.

Amen to that! I bought a few dynamic clothes (some with extensive tutorials). But almost every time I used one of them, something dreadful happened and the results were a mess.
Plus I'm too impatient to wait for the simulation(s) to be completed.

To answer the poll:
No, I hardly use dynamics
No, I won't buy - unless it's exactly what I'm looking for (a roman toga, anyone?)
I prefer conforming

The best way to use dynamic cloth is to follow a few simple rules:

Don't bend a body part so far that two groups touch each other when there is cloth between them, such as an elbow on a sleeve. If they do touch, the cloth gets pinched in between and the simulation doesn't know what to do with the polys in the cloth and sends them sort of helter skelter. Bend the body part so that there is a tiny bit of space for the cloth to do its thing.

When doing a simulation where any cloth will be in between a body part and another object, such as a chair, leave a tiny bit of space between.

Laurie

I use both, but I love dynamics and prefer to use them unless I'm doing something quick or if dynamic won't really improve the look I need--I don't need dynamic underwear most of the time, for example. And yes, I would and often do buy dynamics, though I expect high quality when I do--but I'm not worried about that from you, Lyrra. ;)

Tessalynne ( ) posted Sun, 29 July 2012 at 4:31 AM

I use dynamic clothing if I have to, but only then.  Although I love the way they look, they are just too fiddly for multipart outfits in a busy scene. Not practical for me.

I only buy them rarely. Most things I see for sale are things even I can make and I have no skills.

For the most part, conforming.

MistyLaraCarrara ( ) posted Sun, 29 July 2012 at 10:03 AM

i would only use for loose flowing robes, skirts, where the most benefit would be.

for fitted sleeves and pants - conforming.

in my whole runtime, i only bought one dynamic outfit.
for anastasia, because i love the texture sets with it.

L75 made a few V4 dresses with a conforming and included a dynamic ready version.  like the Midnight dress.

I use conforming cloth for the inner layer and dynamic cloth for the other layers. You can have as much detail as you want in a dynamic piece of cloth as long as you put them in the Soft decorated group. Pckets for example behave very well this way. It is my opinion that content creators should deliver their models in both dynamic and conforming versions. If you have some dynamic cloth that behave well it is a breeze to make the conforming version.

The new qRemersher in zBrush 4R4 make cloth making possible for everyone. And the combination zBrush -  Marvelous Designer is unbeatable.
