The promos show a pretty shiny soft hairdo. The hair in my render looks like you could chip bricks with it. Does anyone know what might be the problem? Oh, I did work on this in PS to try to make it look more normal... still doesn't though.
Was she using DoctorJellybean's 'Special Hair Treatment'?
What settings did you use on the hair prop?
Just as a general starting point, try setting the skullcap to glossy, around 7000 +/- 500, then the remainder of the 'strand' pieces to glossy and check the translucent box.

This was just a quick setup test for a friend to show how fast and easy it was to set up a Reality scene for luxrender. 18 minutes from opening DS4pro to hitting render, 7 hours to render. Hopefully he'll be getting Reality now, LOL.

Sure, a few more vertices for the seat would have given a nicer looking deformation, but as you can see from my small but ever growing collection, I've been having my share of fun with that particular piece of furniture : )

I'm putting the finishing touches on a new character (skin texture+morph) and for the life of me, I can't think of a proper name. (His working title his 'Edgar' for the time being).
Not much is known of his background story, except that is he is a villanous bastard of a man, augmented with 13 cerebral core modules, and may be teetering farther on the machine side of mankind than the man side.

Hi Paolo,
I tried to do a render with the camera/view partly 'submerged', so I positioned the camera accordingly, looking a tiny bit up.
That setup surprisingly gave me a render 100% above the water surface.
I thought "maybe it's the procedural ripples, and the camera happens to be in a low area by accident".
So, for the next render I lowered the camera a bit, just enough to be sure a part of it would always be below the surface, and I got a render 100% submerged. Again, not what I wanted.
Then I tilted the camera up a tiny bit, without moving it, and I to my amazement got a render 100% above water again!
This led me to my conclusion Lux can only 'look' through one frame filling medium at a time. Not strange when you think about it, but a pity non the less (if indeed true).
I ended up compositing both versions in Photoshop, but I flipped the underwater scene up side down, and used the warped reflection on the surface for the submerged part, because the true view was too clear and not 'underwatery' enough to my taste.
Dirty tricks all over this time, sorry, can't help it ; )

This isn't all that surprising really. Your typical over/under water shot has something that lux does not: an actual lens for the water to touch. I think if you can line up your water with a surface for geomety to touch, that will help define that 'magic' line.

I like your thinking, but perhaps names that haven't been used as other characters :-)

Dirty little secret: Lux's perspective camera does not have any physical volume. It's like a weird singularity-pinhole-camera. :P It exists only at the camera object's center point.
Modeling a surface for the lens is actually a really good idea I never though of. A small box of architectural glass ought to do the job nicely.

Maybe a cilinder primitive with a solid plane on one end, and glass on the other would be safer. I'll try and see if I can parent one to a camera, to make it pan and tilt with it.

Does anybody know where I can find a safety helmet (.obj) ?
I have seen images with characters wearing them, but I haven't been able to find a single one. I need the european plastic type. I've tried every name I could think of: hard hat, construction helmet, whatever, came up with nothing : (
I need it for a safety instruction demo like the picture below, DAZ seems ideal for that.

If you're experimenting, I'd go with the cylinder too, or even just the plain square primitive plane with a little y depth added to it. And as you suggested, arrange in front of the camera's 'lens' area and parent to the camera. I'd be rather curious how that all works out when you get a render punched out.
