Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Quote - Sharky or anyone else that runs GPU: Strangely enough, I was in the mood to give it another go last night, but checking just the GPU function, not slg, would outright crash Lux once it loaded my cards into the log. I had the workgroup set to 64. Anything else I'm missing? Driver is very latest for nivida, and am using lux rc3.

I have the same problem when I try to use the GPU, Lux crashes immediately.  I had hoped RC3 might fix it, but no such luck.

Quote - Are you going to share those props with us, or are you teasing us :)

It looks very good indeed!

Thanks!

Haven't really thought about that yet. Need to look into how to make them fit for use by others first, because right now they are a bit 'rough round the edges' when it comes to actually using them in a scene.

One step at a time I think, for now the plan is to at least finish what I have now (and make some more while I'm at it).

Cheers!

SBT.. I had no idea what that workgroup size dealio was for.  Started tinkering around with it about a week ago and too had lux crash when the workgroup size went above 32 for me.  Don't flame me or anything, but I was under the understanding that nvidia sucked for gpu rendering and that ATI was the card of choice for gpu rendering?

I'd probably agree with that, I installed a Nvidia carcd yesterday as my current install of W7 really seems to hate ATI drivers (I normally use ATI/AMD in every machine) and tried running a render with GPU on to try it, Lux didnt crash but after 30 minutes I had 0sp, 0% efficiency etc.  everything was zero.  Might be time for a reinstall and back to my ATI boards.

Nah, no flames :-) I wonder if its from running in SLI. I'd hate to think it was driver related. Hmm!

I can confirm that size modifying my characters can cuse issues I had to change textures on my LYnda character once I reducer down to 20% due to some weird darkening around the eyes no displacement map. To be fair I should also mention that gave me different issues espcially "Growing characters" with elite textues in 3Dlight. It looks like PS will always be needed in my case no biggie...

She will be happy with that comment! She has got the Perfect V4 morphs applied, they help tone up the torso.

The water isn't fully on yet, we've got more than one hose lined up. The full force will come later but the girls have told Penny they can handle large hoses.

No Boobs-'n-Bums in this one, just a (very boring) technical test to see what a specific kind of complex geometry would look like rendered in Lux.

Not perfect, but not too bad either actually, even without any smoothing.

For those somewhat technically inclined: it's polygon and conventional rifling on the inside of a (cut-away) gun barrel.

Modeled in Autodesk Inventor in 15 minutes or so.

Too small to see any significant detail here, there's a larger one in my gallery.

Cheers!

Here is a random question. If I understand the concept of geometry shell it puts a second layer over a figure? Will Lux read this or will we get all kinds of weird poke throughs distortions and such...

At this stage I am not working on the geometry shell or instances. I didn't try it yet so we will have to run some tests. Reality 2.5 is just a recompilation of Reality 2.2 to be compatible with Studio 4.5, there are no new features. Support for new features has been scheduled for Reality 3.

Not 100% sure but I have heard that its now part of genesis it sounds like it adds a layer or second texture or something that allows blending and not sure if it loads by default or is an option. I think it would reaaally be a good I idea to know if this will be a problem with lux before moving to 4.5 dontchoo think? I am just thinking this since there are instances I have to change textures because something doe not quite work. Im not big on rebuilding materials so I just want to know if this will be an issue perhaps someone who is more familiar with the goemetry shell concept can elaborate...

If not will see what Paolo gets from testing :) I got to go and read up on it meeself figured i'd ask...

Gotcha Bob, I just read the thread over at DAZ. Since it has to do with geo-grafting, if you stay clear of using that and parts that use it for now, you should be fine. I know the V5 genitals use it, but since you had to buy the pro version just to get them I skipped it as I find V5 rather unattractive and my V4 gens work well with autofit.

Just like any other software, expect compatibility issues and problems when being an early adopter, best to wait till everyone has it and all the plugins work.

Agreed man my flow is working well for me right now I just want to make sure I wont mess it up. Newer is not always better seen that with the early days of 4 before I was Lux rendering... Ther are issues with Lux and geo graphting if i am understanding you?

The other thing I am trying to find out wich would acutally make switchiung useful is do frigin shoes work now nobody seems to answer that one unless I missed it... I know it will be buggy ealry releases of studio always are. When they get to the point of almost correcting everything time for a new version and the whooole cycle begins again LOL...

Now that I have experience with it and getting what I consider smoking results, I love the Luxrender...

superboomturbo ( ) posted Thu, 16 August 2012 at 9:59 PM

I was going to say geo-grafting hasn't played well with Lux from what I've read around the web. Personally, if I add parts like that, it's easier and fool proof just to do it in a modeler. Bridging verticies and whatnot.

Geografting is an exercise in patience at this stage, for me anyway :-/
