Quote - > Quote - Does it matter if you are on a Mac or Windows machine? its driver 310.64
Yes it does, two completely different OSes, two different drivers. The point is that nVidia has been getting sloppy with their drivers for quite some time now.
Absolutely agree. I know this is about OpenCL, but I've had terrible problems with recent NVIDIA OpenGL drivers creating holes in meshes in Studio and Blender viewports (more than just holes in Blender—an indescribable mess). I've reverted to the drivers that came with my computer, which are now about a year old. The most recent drivers I tried did not have the holes, but crashed Studio frequently. These are for cards that are supposedly professional. However, I'm wondering if pro 3D applications use OpenGL for their viewports. It's something I know next to nothing about.
Quote - > Quote - I'm having a texture issue and I can't figure out what's causing it.
Harley here is wearing the V4 Bodysuit with the Harley Essential texture from Heromorph http://heromorph.com/hmdownload/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=307
I have collision for the bodysuit set to Vicky and when there's no texture the suit itself seems to be fine with no poke through. And the texture on the suit looks fine in 3Delight when I did a test render in Daz. It's just in Reality where I get these missing patches and it's never the same size and shape if I restart the render (though it is in the same general areas).
There's one texture in diffuse that's the same for all areas of the body suit, no bump, normal or displacement.
Looks like the bodysuit mesh is ripping, probably due to the collision detection settings you are using.
Why not turn the bones in Vicky's body off as they are hidden by the bodysuit anyway? Nothing to collide with then.
Thanks, looks like that may have worked. There's an option that came with the costume to "hide V4 body" and I clicked it, but it didn't seem to work. I had to go into the scene tab and do each part manually.

They all do. OpenGL is used at all levels. From the basic apps all the way to the professional, multi-thousand $, programs used for moview production or CAD.

Tiff files are fine. But you will find that those files are not on disk anymore. They were saved to the temp folder, which Studio deletes when you close the program.

Quote - I'm pretty sure I asked about this before, but I forgot again because I haven't come up with it in awhile. Trying to load a file in Lux, I got the "error hashing file" remarks on two .tif files. Apparently LUX doesn't like .tif files? Anyway, what can I do about this? I did Export the Resources, etc. and shut down DAZStudio before opening Lux.
You need to copy the image in the temp dir and put it in the folder where Reality is exporting the resources to. When Studio closes, it removes the images in the temp directory, and recreates them when reloading the scene. Usually the image name is the same, but it can happen that it gets recreated with a new name. Reality is still looking for the old file, so copy it over the first time and point Reality to the image in the new location.
Reload the scene in Studio, it should get recreated. Copy the files over and point Reality to the file for the corresponding material. Collecting textures does solve it, but if Studio recreates it with a new name, the Reality/Lux doesn't know about it as it still refers to the original file name.
Quote - Does selecting collect textures resolve this? I was told this was a solution on the DS forum
It might but I don't know what is causing a tiff file to be copied in the tmp folder. If you can tell us what is the reason why a tiff file is copied there we might be able to find a solution of the cause instead of workign on the symptom, which is never a good thing, both in code and in life :)

Something caused it, it's a matter of tracing the steps. Normally I don't get tiff files generated just because I place V4 in a scene and render it. Therefore there is some other event that happened. Maybe a specific texture package. Describing the details of the scene can help us understand what is the origin of the problem. Otherwise we are bound to deal with this glitch over and over again.
Cheers.

The image files in the temp directory are usually created by using LIE presets. Some character mat presets have e.g. tattoos, which are also created in the temp directory. Reality picks those up, and passes that on the Lux. If textures are not collected, and Studio has closed, then those image files don't exist anymore.
That is why I copy them over to the resources folder, and point Studio to that. Then Reality will pick it up from Studio automatically in the new location.
Quote - Sorry, but I really don't understand what you mean by "Copy the files over and point Reality to the file for the corresponding material." Find the file? Then duplicate it? And place it where -- in the Resources/Textures folder?
Sorry, I meant point Studio to the new file location. Then Reality will pick it up from that. Copy the generated *.tif files from the temp directory to a new location. Look on the surface tab for the material which uses the *.tif file, then use the Browse option and select it from the new location.

I still dont get it why not just add collect textures?
Thank you Doc for the explanation about the MLIE and Tiff deal. I guess that something changed in Studio recently.

90% of the time it is fine. If you create and render a scene in one go, that's also fine. If you are working on a scene, and Studio crash for some reason, it generates a tiff image file with a new name. Now you have collected e.g. d2.tif, and the new one is d16.tif.

Nice baking! Long time no see either.

Ok I still dont get how to copy from the temp directory to a new location...(Sorry (Red face)

Quote - OK, having a little bit of a problem. Reality 2 isn't opening up at all. It always used to open up instantly but now nothing, even after 10 minutes of waiting.
Any ideas?
Is it still there LOL?
Seriously now, which version of Studio do you have installed and what version is Reality?

First thought is to go to Help-->About Installed Plugins and make sure Reality has the little green plug next to it. Double check your Reality version vs the Daz Version. I think you need Reality 2.5 for Daz 4.5, Reality 2 for Daz 4.
Quote - The crazy thing is, I was using Reality last night! I know everything is up to date.
Only now I can't seem to change anything in the file either. hmmm.
Did you try to set the Geometry format to: Lux native on the Output tab? That was the solution for the problem I had the other day. Doc pointed me to this solution.

Reality wasn't even opening up in DAZ Studio :(
Curiously, I opened up Windows Task Manager and found 2 daz studio processes trying to run. Closed those and now everythin works fine again. Colour me puzzled!
At least everything is working again lol

A simple portratit using MRL Neve on Genesis.
Not the Nieve I know, but what a beauty!

The work that Lux is doing on that armor is fanfreakintastic. I've got a few "armor" renders of my own that came out pretty nice too. So far looking like a great render.
I agree, the armour looks stupendous fantastic!

I'll try to explain how this happens to me regularly. One way is when D|S crashes on me. Sometimes the first process will not stop; but, still allow me to open studio again. It's then that reality will not open. I'm sure you already figured it out yourself; but, if this happens again where reality will not open, save your scene, close studio, check your task manager to make sure all instances of studio are gone and then reopen. That should get it fixed every time. Issue is with studio and it's irrational behaviour when it crashes.

I love portrait work and this one's spectacular. I have mrl nieve sitting in my runtime now getting ignored. Need to take her out for a test drive.

Fantastic image, fiber mesh hair? can I ask about the hair product?
Also when imbedding the image in the post, just type in 600 (forum default) in the first block and leave the second empty, that way it keeps the constraints of the image
Regards, Michael
Thanks for the comments Doc, Sharkbites, and Michael.
Yep, it's a fiber mesh hair from Neftis3D. Sharon HairStyle for V4 and Genesis available at DAZ Store. Very nice as always are Neftis3D product's.
I tried to correct the image's dimension in the post, but seems the forum's software only allows 1 edit after publishing. Are there something I missing here?
By the way, the armour is looking fantastic Sharkbites. Thinking that I should give a try to make something like that.
Cheers!
