Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Tue, 05 February 2013 at 11:55 PM

So, now all the discussions and the wealth of information that we have discussed for a couple of years at DAZ have been espunged by DAZ because of this new policy. This is a big disservice to their users. We are talking about products for Studio, not competitors. Cutting connections with your own software is not helpful for anybody. I'm so glad that we have communities like Renderosity and RuntimeDNA where people are free to talk pretty much about everything.

Cheers.

I agree Paolo it's bullshit. I am very turned off by this move its quite childish, most likely caused by some whiney PA's who are not selling well...

FyraNyanser ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2013 at 8:31 AM

They say it's their own decision and the PAs haven't been asking for it, but I agree it's a bad move which damages their public relations image. Although I might see their point with 3D assets that directly compete with their own and their PA's products, where is the logic in removing the Reality thread? This is a product that DAZ once sold (so they owe it to the many customers who bought Reality from them to continue to support it); it's a product that only works with DAZ Studio and does not compete with any product from DAZ or their PAs. Furthermore, it was not a "commercial" thread, and featured renders which were largely of DAZ's own products and which could only be made in DAZ Studio.

I posted a link to the Reality 2.5 and Lux updates in a thread in the DAZ Studio forum (it was a technical support thread) the other day. It's still there, although I doubt many will see it now, but I hope this indicates that they will not be deleting support queries on Reality.

You can be sure that there is one "competing" product that will not have its forum removed. Can you imagine the uproar if they deleted the Poser forum?

Poser doesn't compete with Daz as Studio isn't a product that is "sold". In supplying free versions of Studio Pro, Daz now makes it's money from being a marketplace for Poser and Studio.

The fact that they missed the boat when they initially released Genesis without Poser support now becomes evident.

I doubt that DS5 will appear.

I was using an old weekly build due to wanting to use the refine brush (which is why I kept pushing for the update)

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2013 at 2:58 PM

No, you can use the RC version, I warned against Studio betas, which are a completely different deal. There is no "1.2 final" yet, the RC1 is quite good.

Does that mean you can discuss Reality for Poser on the Daz forums but not Reality for DS?

I have been very lucky to have you and thousands of others supporting my program for the past two and half years and I have no intention to change anything. Why shoudl I? What DAZ is doing is unfortunate but my loyalty is with my customers. Reality 3 will be available for Poser and Studio and people will be able to upgrade from version 2 to any version that they want, at the same price.  My only concern is that DAZ one day might change the term of their SDK license and exclude vendors who don't sell through them. If that will be the case then it will be the end of Reality for Studio, but the decision not happen from me. And even in that case you will be able to upgrade to the Poser version anyway :)

Thanks Paolo,

I have just spent the last year, migrating from Carrara to DAZ STUDIO because Carrara development has stalled and because daz short sightedly would not support your development efforts in that direction...old news I know...

I would hate to have to shift again, from Studio to Poser..but what will be will be..

By the way your software is outstanding and really should be held up as an example to ANYONE else who produces interface's to 3rd party renderer's of how it should be done.

B.T.W..  I WILL be buying Reality 3 for Poser.!!!!!

Cheers,

Thank you very much S.K., I appreciate your feedback a lot.

It is sad what happened with Carrara but, as we can see, what I was saying last year about DAZ software has become true. The depreciation and lack of value that they pose on the software inevevitably led to this. Carrara, as far as I can see has reached the end. They should sell it to somebody else but I am afraid that the brand has been tainted beyond repair and nobody wants it. Hexagon is dead and Bryce is completely dead. Let's be realistic here, I'm not trying to provoke or insult the software that some of you use. I apologize if this hurts you, but, realistically, all the software that DAZ has, except for Studio, is receiving next to no significant upgrades. And this situation has going on for years. Meanwhile all the other programs, including Blender, have grown in leaps and bounds.

DAZ business model is to sell content, Studio fits in that business, the other programs don't. It was a sad realization but that was exactly why I had to decide to NOT develop for Carrara.

Again, I appreciate your support, which has been there since day one.

Cheers.

DAz is going to do what NHL 2K did to itself. Back in 03 I was an avid NHL video gamer EA sports made arcadey crap for 10 year olds.  2K use to make what was considered the best hockey sim with less flash. Over the next few years they turned their game into crap. Lets put it this way there hs been no NHL 2K 12 or 13 while EA sports tries to improve its game... Now that i render I lost interest in gaming. If I need to use an older version of studio to run Reality so be it! I would still work with DS3 just fine if I had to...

Bob, these things depend heavily on the objects that are in the scene. If you find a way of reproducing the behavior consistently please describe what you have in the scene so that I can try to reproduce it on my side.

I always said I would never use DS and now I can't imagine not using it. It simplifies so many things that poser doesn't and has cut my workflow time in half. I have the last 4 versions of poser and will be getting Reality for it when released, but I seriously doubt it will replace what I use now, I find genesis, autofit and the smoothing modifier, all things non native to poser to work great and be big time savers and I use them nearly always.

I definately do not support them closing the Reality thread, as Paolo said, lots of useful info lost because of that, but I do understand not having non DAZ products competing with DAZ PA prooducts. I'll still support DAZ as i like their products and I get the support I need, so no issues from me. Unlike the vocal majority in the forums now, I don't view them as anything more than a business and so far, they haven't done me wrong.

Real nice considering it is what you use. maybe it is time to move on to another app for you.

Getting back to my issue this is what Reality stays hung up on. I no longer have the previous version of Reality & Lux so I cant test if its an issue with the new set up. I am able to get it going via export only. What concerns me is that now perhaps Lux will bog down with less content since I had only 1 character in the scene..

Bob, the crash is happening with the "Save Values" button? I would suggest to stop using that button. It does nothing useful anymore and it will be removed, together with the Re-load Values button, in the next release.

Its happening as I hit "render frame" instead of Lux popping up a few seconds later it just stays hung on the screen and nothing happens.  Sometimes lux will start but its happening often enough. Its the 1st time I run into this in the almost 1 year (coming on the 24th ) of using Reality... As I mentioned exporting only and starting from Lux seems to be a workaround but just pointing it out in case its a bug in the new version of Reality...

I could really use some help, please?

Not sure what is happening here Xandi. I loaded the BO Superhose, used the tool 'node selection', right-clicked the left shin and selected the left shin of the pantyhose. Then used 'Create' > 'New D-former'. It worked perfectly alright for me.

Maybe you had the tool 'surface selection' active? that one is no good for this kind of action. I really can't think of something else..

Again this is OT so if it does not interest you move on but am posting it as an example of a company driving their software down the crapper.

Back in 03 for the xbox and ps2 NHL 2K3 http://www.ebay.ca/ctg/NHL-2K3-Xbox-2002-/10209

And EA NHL 2003 http://www.gameexpress.com/images/product/original/014633145458F.JPG

All hockey simulation purists would favor the less flashy 2K3.

The following year a new company bought the 2K franchise and drove it out of existance by wrecking the code over the several following years..

That is how they do it through the content installer, zips! :)

I have installed this thinghy and tried it on several items. Works like a dream! No more 'resets', all my bought content is simply there. I could now find and install in seconds what I have searched for in the past and could not find at all.

I am not de-installing anything, I just re-install things and as far I can see, works fine too.

Don't let bad feelings damage yours good thinkings. DAZ was in your own right to redefine the Forum TOS and the EULA. We don't need agree with them, and for sure, they managed the changes very bad, but that is not something which should surprise anyone. Miscommunication had been a constant from DAZ.

Away from the business side, DAZ have made a lot of progress in areas where they are always faulty. The Documentation about DAZ Studio is better than one year ago. DAZ Studio 4.5 is very stable and functional. The new DSON format is a real evolution as format to hold our files and the most important step to make it interchangeable with other applications. Genesis is really a better figure than the venerable Generation 4, and now that it works in Poser, it will find a new space to grow and develop. You, Paolo, and Smith Micro, deserves a lot of credit for bring Genesis to Poser. We know that Reality needed a better framework than the ancient Python Scripting Language provided. In an indirect way you pavemented the road that turned Genesis an option in Poser, and I feel to many other developers who will use this new framework to bring us amazing plug-ins and utilities.

I really have an emotional feeling with Poser. I used every version since version 1.0, but ever so I have Poser Pro 2012 installed on my Mac I rarely use it. DAZ Studio is, to me, very fluid and more configurable. I wouldn't say never, but it is improbable that I return to use it. Maybe a little, while Reality 3 for DS is waiting your turn...

Anyway, the DIM (DAZ Install Manager) is a very nice utility. You don't need uninstall any content if you don't want to do it. This step is only necessary if you want give to DIM the knowledge of what it is installed. I choose this path as I wish to clean my content installation, but I am making this on product by product basis, with a new directory for the DIM installed content and my old installed content. The tool is very smart and works like a charm. You should give it a try before take assumptions. Just my opinion...

Whats the point of having a lighter format when loading times are hampered by several duplication ID messages that prevents the scene from loading? I have tried EVERYTHING to fix them to no avail.. If I want to remove something just have to find my organized listed file and delete the items. As for my poser runtime folder lets just say thats why I keep it on a 1T external drive...LOL Paolo like most here will have to wait for DS version.. What is EULA???

I have tried EVERYTHING to fix them to no avail.. If I want to remove something just have to find my organized listed file and delete the items. As for my poser runtime folder lets just say thats why I keep it on a 1T external drive...LOL Paolo like most here will have to wait for DS version.. What is EULA???

Well, I have 3,200 from DAZ marketplace and none Duplicate ID problem. The Duplicate ID issue is an specific problem to DAZ Studio 4 users and it is solved downloading updated versions of the troubled products. That is a rare issue in DAZ Studio 4.5 solved in the same way. Alas, version 4.5 is much better than version 4.0 and I really don't understand why someone don't make the upgrade. It's free at last...

EULA (Argh!) is stands to End User License Agreement
