Here's one of mine.

Lit by a single mesh light, (one of SAM3Ds candel stand models with the wick material turned to light).

Rendered overnight in liner mode.

Improvement means change. Change need not mean improvement.

I use Poser 12.0.757, 11.3 and or 2014, on Win10 64bit.

Quote - One of my first renders with R3/Lux.  I used the overhead Meshlight.  Experimenting with shiny surfaces was the main focus.  Render time was about 6 hours on quad-core PhenomII w/8gb ram.

The paint on the car is outstanding!!

There's a car???

More great work from everyone! Great lighting effects RoseHawk!

Here is my latest image. I used 3 mesh lights (traditional 3 light setup), and HDRI (primarily for the sky backgroung) and linear tone mapping. It took some extra time to bake - I let it go to about 1.2 Ks/p (70 hrs). I finally used one of Stonemason's fantastic sets!!

Custom character/shaders, the same character as my last Reality 3 render, but a new skin textures/shaders. I got DOF to work properly this time as well - it's very easy to set up once you know what your doing!!

Quote - I just updated my video card, and Lux seems far happier with it. This image hasn't had any post-work done (hence Brenna's shirt seems to be sticking into Garrick's chest), and I'm not entirely pleased with her skin tone, but this is a learning process and I'm learning. (I've left the background image out in an effort to focus on the figures.) For some reason, the renderer cropped the top of Garrick's head, even though it didn't look like that in Poser.  I can't say it's amazingly better than what I can do with Firefly at this point. I'll keep tweaking away and see what happens . . .

Anupaum - great lighting! I didn't notice you mentioning that you updated your video card the fist time I looked at this. Did you use the hybrid GPU rendering or SLG (GPU only) for this?

Thank you!  I can't remember whether I used hybrid GPU or SLG. I've been working on book covers for the past two weeks and that's where my mind has been . . .

Has anyone done any renders with Reality 3 from Poser 10/2014 yet?

No I have been waiting for the new release that should be out soon to see if there what fixes there are.  Appearently there is a known problem with material changes in Poser 10/1014 and it should also support the new compound node.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Good luck at the dentist!! Was there myself a couple of days ago for an extraction, preping for an implant - not a fun place.

Link goes to gallery where you can see it at full size.

This is my latest promo for Reality, using Poser Pro 2014, Reality 3.0.3 and LuxRender 1.2.

The notable thing is that I didn't tweak the skin materials at all. This is Danae's Lyon straight out of the box. The hair is Dragon Hair by Arki which includes the beautiful hair needles. I changed the materials for those to be Metal with the Gold preset. Polish is set at about 9600. The gems have been converted to architectural Glass. Some textures, like in this case, when used for glass, are a bit too dark. To lighten them a bit I changed the texture gain to 2.0 in the Reality Texture Editor (RTE).

The top is Light Mage by Alphaseed. The main cloth uses the Skin material because it give me the ability to dial in some metallic reflections via the Fresnel value, which I thing was set to 15% or 20%. To make this work you need to disable the SSS and deselect the material's volumes. This shows the flexibility of use the skin material for something else than skin. Remember to deselect the volumes for the material or it will not work.

Lighting is provided by four mesh lights. Two on the sides, one bigger than the other, one in the front of that character but dimmed down a lot, and finally one behind the window to show the stained glass. The window has been converted to archi glass and it is quite far away from the character so that it gets blurred by the DOF. I set the f-stop for DOF at f16 so that the character and the hair needles stay in sharp focus.

That's all that I remember, the render cooked for about 1810 spx.

Cheers.

So Reality 3 works with Poser Pro 2014 straight away? I know with PP2012 you had to download some service release which I was thinking of getting a month or two ago, but held off because I suspected PP2014 might come out soon.

Just a quick note with those running Reality 3 and Poser 10/2014, I have just strated me first render and noted that V4 that a broken neck. > More accuratly her neck shows a split line where her neck joins the torso. I will quickly add this is not a Reality problem and the fix was to make sure I was using the 'traditional' skinning method.  I had forgotten that I had played with the scene and had changed the skinning method to Poser Unimesh and not surprisingly Luxrender does not like it.

Not a Reality Problem then, but you won't see it unless you are using R3.

You can actually see the split line in the Poser preview as well, it's just faintier. It's an issue with Poser's handling of ther geometry. It goes away if you simply "giggle" the camera a bit.

The technology added by Poser 9 SR3 is included in Poser 10. Unlike other Service Releases, the SR3 actually added new features, it didn't just fix some bugs.

Now that the Addon framework is integral part of Poser Reality can run in it.

Thanks for the information.   I had changed the pose slightly so I guess and the camera position from when I did a Firefly render and I could not understand the difference.  I can't see the problem in the preview but that might be down to my video card.  I know it was not a Reality problem but I just wanted to warn others as it took me a while to find what was causing it in the hope it would save anyone else the effort.

This is an example of lighting a car with one light only. The technique used is replicating the lighting used for car commercials. A few years ago I had the chance to visit a sound stage in San Diego where they shoot car commercials. The studio is equipped with very large lights, about 40-feet long (about 12 meters), suspended over the car.

This render uses the same technique, with a reflector on camera right, used to light the side of the car.

The floor has been set to very high gloss material with a dark grey diffuse color:

Reality 3 car
