Subject: the Dawn of a new day...

One of my all time fav shows.  It would be cool.  Maybe a Carter morph  for Dawn? :)

I like the name "Daniel" too.

As in... one of the ideas of Dawn is to bridge the applications... like the Stargate bridges different worlds? :)

How about Dawn and Spike (a la Buffy)... Okay that sucks (though not in a vampire way).

Hmmm... she looks perfect to me .... ahm just considering the technically aspects. With textures applied ,she is a real beauty, but... ahm... may I go on? Her untexured shape looks a bit odd to be honest. Reminds me a lot like base Victoria 1 when she was released. This is not that bad, for I like to create my own bodymorphs anyway, but after all Dawn is starting with high standarts. From the pics, I see a to big upper chestcase along the x-axis, while it seems to be flat along the z-axis. Allthough I prefere a slim waist on women too , Dawn's waist appear quite toony to me. She has a lot of chin, and a shoulder width of a guy. Sorry, I didn't intend to troll here, but after those high expectations , this is just , what I see. Besides, if she collects all the features , we all  like to see on a Poser figure, she is allready a winner, though.

That's a MCJ (Morph-Controlled Joint), not a JCM (Joint-Controlled Morph), Shante.

JCMs are used to fix shapes of when a joint bends. For instance, before weight-mapped rigging came, if you wanted an elbow to be pointy upon bending, you most likely needed a morph for that, activated by the bend itself.

V4 has a bazillion JCMs, plus magnets controlled by joint rotations as well.

Non-WM Antonia has a few JCMs too.

There is a problem, I am fighting for so long, and in a certain way it is good to see that it occures other artists too. My experience: Imagine you draw , paint or nodell a female Body, and you think:" wow , coool!!! This is the best I've ever done. " You show it to others and they say :well, nice" "NICE??!! Just NICE ?" After Years you look at your work and you think: "oh, a little crapy". What I want to say is, it is hard to have that objectiv look on your artwork. The longer we are busy creating something, the harde it becomes to keep our sense of what is real. We seem to merge with what we have created. We don't see what we intended to create. We tend to loose the way. Is there anybody , who knows What I mean? We don't see things allways the same way.

true. thus we see work that becomes so highly personalized noone else gets it or in the case of 3d work that has flaws you missed either because you lack technical skill to do so or are just not into the details of certain aspects of the figure. i am into feet for example and i really look at the shape and functions whereas the creator or other users wouldn't give feet more than a cursory glance. no matter how good micki is for example because her feet are so darn ugly i would never buy or even download her free.

Yep I know what you mean, like when I write a letter and proof read it, I tend to read what I think should be there not what is there.  Someone else reads it and it is full of mistakes.  It is ten time worse with art.  On occasions I have put a render in the galleries only for someone to comment politely ''it would be better if........"  and I see exactly what they mean and it seems a basic error.

One of the fears I have here is that some may be looking for Dawn to be the perfect figure when that is not possible, the best she can be good out of the box with the potential for artists to make her into thier perfect figure.

That is not to say that there should not be good healthy feedback, particularly when the team are keen to listen, but at some point Dawn is going to have to be launched into the wild.  At that point I have no doubt she will be good but not perfect.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Netherworks ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 12:54 PM

Well one thing I think about with figure critiques on shapes is that it seems to me that everyone has a set of ideals they have in mind (around the same lines of what you all are talking about).  That in itself can also be idealize though I do highly agree that being close to a project does blur your focus.  I think it happens most of the time, even to folks who are very insightful.

But someone can say (just picking something random) that this figure's legs look all wrong.  And other guy or gal says well I've seen legs like that or says "I have" legs like that!  Sometimes I see critiques and think well... my elbows or toes or whatever look that way... Am I a mutant now?  Or then someone brings up an art book reference, which in itself is going to be idealized.  I have seen a lot of folks who have what I feel are big heads or rather small heads or eyes that hang down lower than where someone else's eyes do.

That doesn't mean that clearly alien looking humans should be justified as ideal, but I feel some variance in structure is okay.

.

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 1:02 PM

true, diseases like anorexia seems to be based on that "blurred focus" on a person's self. BTW, I have started collecting bookmarks of 3d.sk of modells that look natural yet sexy to me, in order not to loose way to much.

JV-Andrew ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 1:04 PM

Ideally, a bit of drop to the armpit and some more slope to the shoulders please, or at least a morph to adjust along those lines.

Ok, I'm a Genesis user and recently bought V6 for G2F... would it be cruel of me to compare Dawn to an evolved shape that has had time to mature?  Perhaps, but it is the "opposition" when aiming at DAZ Studio users - especially as Genesis 2 Female has generated a bit of controversy in DAZ community, and now is a strategically propitious time to maximise on this.

I fully appreciate that my next suggestion would need to be taken up by a 3rd party rather than the Hivewire team, and if we assume all other things are equal (will not know until used both meshes, so just for now let's assume they are more-or-less equal), the thing that would give you the drop on V6 would be anatomically correct "naughty bits"... not just a crease, but modelled ahem front & back so to speak - a prop or geografted item that accepts external skin texture from the main Dawn hip texture.  If V6 had such an item, then it would be the elite figure of choice it purports to be.

Of course, that would be a niche item, but having the option available would be a strong selling point if you want Dawn to be considered all things to everyone.

Naturally, the mainstream is where the money is, but thought I'd share some thoughts on what would make me load Dawn into a scene instead of V6.

Don't get me wrong, I have zero interest in seeing DAZ fail.  My interest is purely in getting a product that gives me the options to do exactly what I want to do with the least amount of work on my part.  If Dawn can do that for me, then bring it on already... if not, I'm sure I'll still find some use for it.

See, if we get into preferences I tend to like stocky or solid looking gals.  Not in every single case, of course, just what I gravitate to.  Just like I tend to go with a Classic Rock or Metal vibe but there are some Techno/Industrial groups I really dig on.

CG_Cubed ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 1:08 PM

We really do like hearing from the community, and while we try to fit many of your suggestions into Figure development as possible, she would never be released to you if we didnt say, "ok for this round we think this is a solid figure."

Just know that your feedback is a big help and will continue to guide us on improving Dawn in the future...We are watching!

Quote - I'm sure Ironman13/Fugazi1968 & others would be happy to put together an option so people could add in those sorts of details after the fact.  (I'm talking about something like this >> Overlay Ease Makeup Volume 1 which is sold here at Renderosity << yet instead for nipples, genitals, etc.)

That doesn't work very well if you are using a second overlay system, or EZskin.

AnAardvark ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 1:20 PM

Quote - I'm for either, a product library with unlimited downloads, or the 4 download limit with reset option. Either is fine with me if the reset is done within 30 minutes or less of request.

Reason being is that I'm on a dial up account and somedays a sneeze interrupts my downloads, not to mention attempts to do other things on the net at the same time like... surf simple web pages, not so simple web pages like Renderosity here or other 3D merchants I visit frequently can interrupt a GOOD download day.

What I'm more concerned on is finding out about updates.

Each store handles it differently.

Renderosity handles it best (for me), since I can sort my purchase history by last updated. Everyone month, I download the previous months updates.

RDNA is OK, they send email notices. Every month I check that account and download the updates.

DAZ used to be bad. They sometimes sent out email. Other times, you could tell there was an update because it showed up again in your downloads, but since you could only see them for about a week, you might miss them.

DAZ is now terrible. Unless you use DIM, you have no idea that there are updates. And now that they are adding metadata to all the old products, 90% of the updates you see in DIM aren't important if you don't use DS.

I like what I see so far; Good Job.

The good points:

  1. The object file; => The body shows they know how to model.

  2. The rigging => "No JCM's" =>  shows that the rigger knows how to rig.

  3. Texture => And what has been visible of the texture looks good too.

Some comments :

  1. Her height => on the tall side

  2. Breasts general shape does not look like a "real breast shape". => Good for "art", not good for "reality".

  3. Breasts too high on the chest in default position. (Was discussed some pages ago.)  You can morph them lower but you will strech the texture doing so.

Remark:
Does she have magnets?
If YES? Check the magnets left-right for symmetry.  The average figure with magnets has 40 left-right symmetry errors.
If NO? Disregard remark.
