How does it compare to the Daz Milenium horse, charger and daz horse 2?

Downloading it right now. I have been looking for a decent example of a horse for some future renders, and this seems to fit the bill. I'll post a few test renders when I finally get my new computer straightened out.

Cool. I'm not aware of any other new/updated horse that will work with Poser so I'm very interested.

Well, if the tackle is important, bop over to rotica and ask Davo if his horsie tackle from years agone is still available. Then pretend its the Micheals all over again.....

That aside, the neck bends look better than what the milhorse could do.

moriador ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2014 at 8:36 AM

Judging from the promos, the facial expressions, and the mane and tail are reasons enough to want it.

Glad to see the Daz tack can be made to fit.

The problem I had with the daz tac was that the head gear never fit the horse very well. The mouth bit would not be "in" the horses mouth...also the stirrups had to be streched and twisted so that they would meet up with the rider's feet. Otherwise the rider would be in awkward looking non-realistic poses.

It's a bit stumpy-looking for me. Maybe there are some morphs to fix that. From looking at the Hivewire thread a while ago I didn't like the shape of this too much compared to the Mil Horse (even if the neck bend is better), but agree it would be worth it for the mane and tail!

shante ( ) posted Sat, 24 May 2014 at 6:21 PM

I think I saw and downloaded a free horse set here in the free stuff called the ArmaVision Horse. It is based on the P4 horse but with extensive re boning and texturing etc. Has a lot of stuff for it in the free section. I have tried it and it is better than P4 horse though not as good as the MilHorse (1).

Took me forever to finally install and start using the MilHorse (v.1) and I wish i had done so sooner. I love it. I have had no real big problems with the tac for it. I do know you have to conform before you mess with any other dials. But honestly I hate most conforming clothes and hair. Never really work great most of the time.

Not sure i understand. What is wrong with the MilHorse 1 mane and tail?

I think they pose, texture and render pretty well.

I guess I must be comparing it to the old P4 horse which I hae been scraping by until recently.  :(

Are the mane and tail separate figures so they could be used with a different horse?

This looks pretty good from viewing the renders. The mane and tail render a bit thick and clumpy but not sure if thst is the render qualty or something in the model. Curious to know.

The textures are pretty terrible in a large render and the (not sure how to describe) detail (?) of the model isn't very good or realistic. I have to overpaint them when I use the Mil Horse and I'm very sick of doing that. Even retexturing them doesn't help too much. If I could put the new Hivewire mane and tail on the Mil Horse I might get something I like. Maybe.

How big do you render?

I work at 3000 x 3000 at 300 lpi and it looks nice enough?

So the tail and mane are seperate files on the Hivewire horse afterall?

I work at very large sizes. Most commercial Poser textures are not high enough res or realistic enough for what I need. The Mil horse is pretty bad and I hate retexturing organics.

I don't know if the Hivewire tail and mane are separate figures. That's what I was asking. It says something about them being conforming figures, so I wondered if it might be possible to use them on other figures.

I have to agree that the Mil horse textures are pretty low res. Closeups are a bit dodgy. This is about the best I could get out of it.

not really thrilled with the burnt in highlights....I guess it's real difficult getting source photo's for a horse. Pretty decent looking. The mane and tail hair are 100 times better than the mil horse. Hope they make some more textures and try to paint out the highlights.

I ran the textures through scene fixer and easyskin2. I also used my own eye'surface/cornea texture that I use on all my models.

I really like this horse, from what I've seen of the promos so far. Very nice work. I might actually spring for this one. I agree on the main and tail and I especially like the long hair around the ankles. No one ever thinks to include that.

persnally the horses eyes look awful. they don't look like eyes atball let alone a horse's eyes....looks like the are dialed too far off center or something.

Out of the box a lot of figures shine way too much. Not sure why but I always seem to have to reset all that to get it looking right but I have also seen horse's coats ths shiny too.

Also not seeing the mane or hair so can't get a decent comparison.

Can you confirm if the mane and tail are separate figures that could be used with something else?

Wow - that's shiny! What are the textures like in closeup? Do they stretch badly when posing? Are there morphs for a less stumpy body shape?

Seeing it up close I can see the difference but how many closeups of horse eyes will I do to concern myself about thie highlight in the eye? None I dare say?

I am more interested in texture stretching and distortion in realistic extreme poses. I want to know about this mane and tale issue. Is the horse a complete unit out of the box or do you need to get additional breed morphs and other stuff we need to get to fill out anything we usully get from DAZ.

Will it work in Poser 7 or is it set up to only work in newer versions of Poser and/or D/S?

Thanks. I guess it isn't ready for prime time for me yet.

Been doing a lot of work with the MilHorse and am addicted in wheel spinning to create expressions and morphs but mostly breeds. I use all the different textures out there besides DAZ originals for variety. Since I don't do too mny Close-ups of animals or human portraits all the things discussed here are moot for me at this time.

Did you find out btw if the tails and mane are seperate items with the figure or connected?

I use a lot of the anthropomorphs for M4 and V4 by Philosophers Dream  and accessories like manes and tails and even feathers for lower legs (which I am desperate to find right now) to use on other creatures by Ali are much to my interest. If I could get those items seperate with the package , I would buy the horse just to get them.

ghostship2 ( ) posted Sun, 25 May 2014 at 3:07 PM

the tail , mane, and fetlocks are all separate conforming figures. When you load the horse without them the tail looks like a rat's tail.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I figured there was a different word for it but I'm not up on my horse terminology. I don't have any of the daz horses. just the poser horses, which are quite sad without doing some serious work to them.

If you are interested there is still a lot of stuff out there for the old P4 Horse. Mouth open morphs and teeth props set, poseable stringier hair, cloven hoof morphs and horse shoes, there is a mane prop out there not great but it works better than the on-board useless mane they have. Better textures, Lynn I think has a bunch of breed morphs and even some hi res textures for it. Just to get the old nag a bit more umph!

Nope, no one forgot - the free poses are not quite ready to go out, but will be given to everyone who purchased the required items :). > Quote - Is the horse a complete unit out of the box or do you need to get additional breed morphs and other stuff we need to get to fill out anything we usully get from DAZ.

The Horse is a complete unit out of the box, but there will be more breeds, textures, characters, and many other items coming down the road.  While it would be nice to have everything immediately, that's not possible in real life - people creating, testing, approving products have only so many hours in a day and more than one thing to handle - patience, grasshopper ;)

Quote - Will it work in Poser 7 or is it set up to only work in newer versions of Poser and/or D/S?

Because of the technology used, the Horse requires Poser 9+ and/or DS 4.6.

Hope this helps!

I got just the horse. I don't need the poses. I got a load of points for signing up so used the max of those off the price.

I don't like the default shape much at all, but I guess I can squeeze it into some different shapes. Or maybe I'll just see how the mane and tail look on the Mil horse.

In the Hivewire Tail -> Body -> Parameters there's Actor -> Tail. Under that there are a load of easypose controls for the tail.

For some reason the first time I tried it there was nothing at all under Actor, they only appeared when I restarted Poser.
