^If the iray scene fits into the graphics card's VRAM, then it can be used to render (and will be faster than CPU-only). But if the scene is larger than the VRAM, it will be rendered by CPU-only regardless. Looks like the 1050 has 2GB of RAM, which would do for a simple scene with a single clothed figure and simple background but perhaps not for a complex scene.

There's not much in it but the GTX 1050 looks to be slightly better to me.

If your spending the money on a card just to render I would think about getting an RTX card vs a GTX Card.
An RTX card uses the new Turing engine, which will be required to run the latest IRAY products that are not available to the general public. (Yet) I have first hand knowledge of this as I waited 3 months to be approved for an AI based image painting from NVIDIA and I can't run it.
Also AMD and NVIDIA will be using the same ray tracing engine (Look up the story behind Vulkan) so eventually Daz should support AMD cards...in theory

@felldude, thanks for yours. Frankly, the new RTX cards are completely beyond my means. From the little I've gathered, DAZ Studio 4.12 will make the most of RTX, but I simply cannot afford them. Thanks again. (In my next lifetime, I'm gong to be rich.)
I understand as I made a similar decision, which wasn't the $400 for the GeForce RTX 2060 it was the upgrading everything else. Now if I where rich I would get the 48GB Qaudro RTX for $9000 lol

It will definitely assist in faster rendering with it's 1800 or so Cuda cores (Than your listed card) and 8 gb isnt to bad for most scenes. One thing to consider is that it is more than double the price of the more powerful and more recent RTX2060.So value for price isn't so great, if being used mainly for Iray rendering.

I'm not sure what you mean here - all modern GPUs have far more than two cores. The latest nVidia cards have multiples of several specialist cores each - RTX is one of those, used for ray-tracing (which is why it is, potentially and depending n the scene, a big help for Iray).

I use poser and daz, and have a GTX970, it works fantastic in iray as it has 4gb vram (reported to only use 3gb) but has 1664 cuda cores, surely something like this or a GTX 980 which has 2048 cores would suit better than a GTX 1050 with a max of either 768 cores except on the 2gb version which has 640 cores. yes I know the RTX and Quadro are better but the person I the thread did say money is an issue so why bring them up?

I'm considering buying a new graphics card. I use Poser Pro 2019, but I'm thinking seriously of switching to DAZ|Studio. Which would be the better choice: NVIDIA GTX 1050 or Radeon RX 560? I know nothing about graphics cards. From the little I do understand of it, I presume that DAZ|Studio will use the CPU to render; apparently neither of these cards appear adequate to the task. But those are the only cards I can afford. Thanks to all helpful replies.
