6 hour renders??? What are your settings?

hornet3d ( ) posted Tue, 18 April 2023 at 7:39 PM

I dropped off in my earlier render of the Night Train and did not do the model justice really.   I managed to miss the Emission connection on one of the materials which was used both on the building and the train.  Unsurprisingly when you are working with no lights just emissions, this omission had quite a impact on the render.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Unfilteted opinion on the dress: I personally, as a female, think it really could use more coverage. We have way too much skimpywear as it is. Can at least the nipples not be hanging out please?

blackbonner ( ) posted Fri, 21 April 2023 at 7:50 AM
@Rhia474 that's exactly what I asked for, an unfiltered opinion or idea.
As I mentioned the Neglige is not ready yet.
I could think of lace at the breast area that has some floral pattern which means more coverage.
Skimpywear is a terme I was not familiar with, I find it funny.

If you felt unconfortable with this kind of clothing or the reveal of a nipple I do apologize.
I'm guessing you are located somewhere in the States, right?
I'm from Germany, so maybe we dealing here with some cultural differences.
No, german woman don't running around in such clothing or having there breasts exposed all the time.
Fun fact, in german public swimming pools women are allowed to take of their bikini top.
I personally think of male and female breasts and nipples very much the same, they are just bodyparts.
So, we are pretty used to it, that's why I not even thought of it.
I do however took the time and checked the nudity box.
I hope you don't take it as an offence.

Rhia474 ( ) posted Fri, 21 April 2023 at 8:03 AM

blackbonner, I am actually originally from Europe, but married and moved to the States. I am just sensitized to objectifying women, is all--everywhere around us male and female nipples very much aren't treated the same, if you are realistic about it, however much we agree in private.

You did not offend me, I guess I just reached the saturation point with your specific image. All is good.  With some lace covering the upper chest area I think it will be a very lovely negligee.

I've noticed that trend in Poser products and artwork: the over-sexualization of women.  Much as I enjoy seeing these outfits, many of them are not what most women would want to wear.  I don't know if we're as bad as the comic books or acually worse.

[sigh]  And I would argue, at my age, that I am probably as much a part of the problem as younger people are..

Unfortunately Poser had a name being used just for pin ups in the past, not that I am against pin ups it is just there needs to be variety.  It was one of the aspects I tried to break away from even in my early days of Poser, I wanted an hero for my renders/stories and the norm was for that hero to be of big build, statuesque even, and normally male.  Females in the poser world were more often or not models and the like.  So my main character is female, petite compared with the norm for female Poser figures and in her early thirties, much older again than the norm.  Having a fighting woman going into battle showing more skin that outfit is hardly believable so I do tend to spend my time kit bashing outfits so I can cover as much of the body as possible.  My first attempt at the character was probably twelve years ago and based on V4.  For the last few years the character has been based on Dawn SE but has all the main attributes of my original V4 character.

Older scene, re-rendered out of curiosity with no background.

No power stations were harmed from excessive power draw, but it did take some time to render.

As much as I would like, there is no longer a Make Art button in Poser, and things don't instantly pop out of it.

I can well understand the excitement with the improved render speeds that Poser 13 can provide but for me it is the quality of the finished render that gives me a buzz.  With the correct Superfly materials it is so easy to create and light a scene.

@hornet3d I think you should start using DOF in your renders and also try some more dramatic camera placements. DOF can really help a render out.

That is a fair point DOF was something I never used to use and I was picked up on it in the past and I did start using it which, as you suggest did improve the renders.  I have been so taken with Poser 13 I have dropped into old habits.

I don't know if it comes from the number 13 but it looks like  this version of Poser definitely provides a lot of fun! Awesome results

We need more animations !!!!!

Poser is Character and Animation Software after all.....

Frame render time varied from 9 to 13 seconds a frame. Intel denoise used on all the frames.

this sure looks good, quiet a creative idea for a animation. I remember in older poser versions that flickering of light, and as far I remember it was caused with a light setting , or a type of light, Poser could not generate smooth frames causing a flickering. Now I cant tell if it is in your animation due the light, skipping frames, or the Gif resolution, but normally the gif should not make any Flickering or grain . But else neat Animation, yes would be nice to see more users doing these.

Allot give up on them, probably because they can't or are not patient enough giving the fault to Poser, but Poser is sure capable making neat animation already for quiet a while :) All depends if user is willing to learn.

The gif was made with Median Cut dithering, which always creates grain.

I use an old 32 bit program which does the conversions very fast, and I like the effect.

The lighting that changes is animated on a light just out of frame in response to where the orb is..

If the orb is behind her near the ladder, the other light is on. To her left and close behind her is height conditional.

I set up the orb to light relationship up in the preview with hit boxes. When the orb entered those boxes, I set the animated values of the light.

It adds to the effect as well, so much so you instantly notice it, but not why right away.

I set many of my animations up very quickly using tricks like that. And try to make it a small effect not to completely distract.

I am just having fun messing with it and showing what Poser is capable of, and how fast it can do it.

I try to inspire other people to try it.

And get them to question how and why I did something.

Like the orb turning on a light from hit boxes used in setting up the scene....

You completely missed the fact the orb was used as a controller to set the light up, didn't you?

Mission accomplished..

FYI - I'm working with the Poser writing team on a "Making of ..." series for the weekly blog/newsletter that starts with an interesting render/animation and interviews the artist to deconstruct it so others can learn about the techniques involved.

Sadly your Interpretation of any critique or something that could be done a little better is causing every time a pretty tense reaction. I think this is not the meaning of Art presentation and is causing allot of members not to place there honest meaning about a Work.  Just what is happening in here all the time ... But well if you just insist to hear how fantastic it is " You Are ", so shall it be .... for my part I just stay out ! As no need to be here with attention disorders.
