That looks much better.  There is still the issue with occlusion under her feet, I wonder if there is an ambient channel active on the ground.  The catchlights on the figure look right.  Keep in mind, a scene like this is difficult to light because you are expecting two very different light sources to be prominent at the same time.  With a camera view this close to the subject, I would expect the campfire to completely overwhelm the ambient moonlight.  But you are looking for a specific effect in your scene.

Thank you.

Yeah, shadowing looked much more natural when I was using the "real" lights.  There's an active ambient channel on the back of the set for the sky, but that's invisible.

True, the firelight ought to be drowning out the moonlight.  (For the same reason, we get a lot of flat Earthers demanding to know why the stars aren't visible in most space shots.  Not that they want to actually hear the answer; they just want to continue yelling that it's "proof" that space is fake.)

I like Trantuete's image titled "Rusty"; I'd like to be that good some day.

Just for fun pulled out the "old V4 Treasure Hunter" another tryout with Optix, no Postwork like the one above " Same Skin Used "

Interesting, it almost has the sepia tone look of an old photograph,  It does highlight the changes that have been made rather well.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

In this one, I decided to illustrate a chapter of a story I'm working on. I was able to render 23 figures in this one since most didn't use any textures. It took a half hour to render but that's because I decided to jack up the settings rather than using the denoise. Given how high I had them, I'm happy with the time. The only post work was to use the post effects to make the ruby glow

Great render, mine are not in this class and do not use anywhere near that number of figures but I have extended a lot of my renders out to thirty or forty minutes for the same reason.  The are dimensions are 7016 X  2480 pixels as I aim to print some in a lay flat A4 book and I increase the samples so that I do not have to use denoise, good as it is I do not like the softening effect and slight loss of detail when using it.  Of course, one of the real benefits of Poser 13 is that you do have that choice.

oPzcnmHmhOo6ISYFd9cfJiod66ZyBoedDXfmNUA8.jpgGoodbye dear Poser friends and thank you for your attention. Poser 13 has stopped serving me and it's frustrating that things aren't working the way they used to. Poser crashes when using the Clothroom. Poser crashes when subdividing. When morphing, Poser deforms the figures for some unknown reason. OK...

I'll look in sometimes and see what you make so beautiful. Until then...

V3 with my new skin shader

Speaking of V3, just pulled her out and made a little scene to see how it works with Optix. Yes it renders fast, needed to make quiet some corrections in the materials for it to work as these are really old .

hDoV77NGVwd7iEqKFK2TFQ4rKTazXRxpfPFC9PaF.jpg

Right out of the box, No Postworks. But sure would need quiet some overworking, have not tested with firefly to see the difference so just Optix but I guess it would look similar for this kind of older models.

vopehov506 ( ) posted Tue, 25 April 2023 at 1:27 PM

The biggest mistake that has been done in Poser 12, 13 was to remove the Simple Material room option this is a real Desaster making simple things really difficult when Setting up the basic. I had no crashes since I fixed the GPU and Poser could adapt it on the first run. Just that in some cases Firefly renders do look wrong in the window when rendered with ugly borders on the meshes. When saving the render these are gone, might have to do with the changes of the GPU. But at least no more Blue screen on Windows that sure was scary ....

Richard60 ( ) posted Tue, 25 April 2023 at 3:16 PM

The removal of the simple material room has been explained numerous times.  Simple Material Room only works on FireFly materials and only with the Poser Surface.  Make a hybrid material and it will fail.  But not in a way that a newbie is going to understand.  So, you could leave in something that is broken and will cause more and more problems or replace it with something that will actually work.  At some point people are going to have to use the material room so might as well start them off with the room that will work with both render systems.

There was a discussion of some problems with Project Evolution, and I think someone mentioned that PE has some sort of Superfly issues.

I stumbled across this; maybe it will help with the Superfly issues:  https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/87327/project-evoluton-goes-poser-12

I have looked at the Superfly Material shaders of Project Evolution and she does have shaders that are not correctly set up.  Remember, she was conceived during the time when PBR materials in Poser were in their infancy and it was not understood how nodes needed to be set up.  Just by looking in the Material Room, I can spot the problems and easily correct them.

I really miss that Simple material room to make the basic setup ! at the end the larger difference is the time spend for getting it right but both engines give very similar results, only difference in these renders are caused from the light, so wondering if it is really worth spending so much time making setups for Superfly if you can get the same in firefly in no mentionable time.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 29 April 2023 at 3:09 PM

Unless you are really meticulous about having all your material respond realistically, stick with Firefly rendering.  However, with the PhysicalSurface node used in Superfly, you have a simpler approach to achieving realistic renders rather than faking most of your shaders.  Accept the fact that the Simple Material Room does not support Superfly setups and that it is not coming back.  There is no point whining about a feature that has limitations in constructing complex material shaders.

Afrodite-Ohki ( ) posted Sat, 29 April 2023 at 3:43 PM

I keep asking them to make a new Simple Material tab - one that connects to PhysicalSurface instead. Most of the features in PhysicalSurface root work in both renderers anyway, and it would be just a matter of it plugging the things to each thing. Would be helpful for newbies...

Not sure the renders prove much, certainly it is possible to select textures that will look similar in both render engines but, it is also possible to pick textures that would be vastly different such as liquids, gems and other such surfaces.  Question is why would you bother, if you like the look of Firefly than use Firefly, if you like the look of Superfly then use that but, for me at least, trying to prove one is better than the other seems a little pointless to me.

It is less a comparison as it would be nice using Superfly on more assets ending up with good results, The point is rather that the setup of materials is a big hassle in Poser13. Even Blender gives an option to set up textures in a fast way for at least have a basic view on how your model will look like when Textured . The way it is set up now it is allot of work for both Firefly and superfly setting up textures for basic view.

I had to go to Poser 11 to make a mat file that I can load in poser13 just to get the basic texture load in a fast way. I might just do something wrong that it is taking longer then in Poser 11 or have overseen something for a fast load when you have a load of material regions that you have to build up from scratch. If your model already loads with all textures, no Problem to change the stuff as you are able to see already, but if having a Blank model then sure would be great having a option loading textures in a simple way for a start. Well for now just will keep using Poser 11 for this option.

Your Environments look great but just imagine they come without textures and you have to set up each one manually in P13 it would take you weeks , it looks more like that you just adapt some of the many material regions for your Superfly render.

Most of my renders in this thread come without the textures being complete or even compatible with Superfly, for example in the last render the Scanner units are exported from Blender files via Wavefront and imported into Poser.  Although there is a basic texture structure is there virtually none of the image maps are connected so they are built for each texture and then saved for other items from the same kit.

The building itself is a sci-fi hanger which, by default renders as a vast aluminium which is the only texture with blown out reflections in Superfly.  In this case I used the script that hborre pointed to https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/157575/go-physical-for-poser-12 and then built from there, about an hours work tops.  Another method would be to use commercial textures from the likes of Vince Bagna or Ghostship to create your own material set for any given content.

One last point to remember is the more you play with Superfly the easier it becomes.  Over four days last week I imported twenty eight buildings from the Blender based kit and in the end I had not only the buildings but also 67 textures that can be used on more imports or on converting Firefly content to Superfly with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Gave it a shot with no lights converting the Environment lights to light up the room . Somehow Poser spit out 2 render versions when saved that was strange !

Not strange if you have post-fx active in your render settings.  Although both renders look identical, your first one has very slight graininess in the shadows.  The second one looks like it's been adjusted.

ohh ok Tank you somehow had that Hook on Post effects to Render that must be the reason why I got a original and a normal render after saving . Have to get used to all this, so I can figure out if it is worth adding Superfly options into my releases or not.

I normally render without the Post FX and afterward, apply it as needed.  It's great that I can dial back the amount of denoising to retain texture detail.  My favorite settings are Exposure and Contrast.
