Subject: Will Renderosity ever accept PayPal ?

If Renderosity would just accept my PayPal payments, I'd subscribe to the magazine today.. and also spend some money in the store. I don't want to use my company card for such things and I don't want to hassle with checks and 'snail mail'. If almost every bozo on ebay has a PayPal account.. why can't Renderosity get one? Is there anyone else who would prefer to pay this way? I'll bet they'd get a big influx of cash the same day they activated their account.

I would definitely buy more if I could use PayPal...there have been numerous times I wanted to buy something but didn't want to put it on my card and thought if I could just use PayPal where I have the money...oh well, their loss.

I posted almost the same exact message in the Store Contact forum. I definately would buy more if they used paypal. Thanks for bringing it to the main forum.

Actually, we all lose Our art suffers.. The artists who are merchants make less money.. and Renderosity makes less money. Maybe they'll open an account?

Excuse me guys, can you just explain to me what PayPal is, and what is it good for? (I am one of the special kind of people which does not own a credit card :-) )

welcomesite ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 1:39 PM

Then you will love PayPal It let's you use your bank account like a credit card. The link at the top of this thread takes you to a place where you can sign up. ( I used my 'standard' paypal link, which also gives you an option to 'donate' money to me... which never happens, LOL .. when you join paypal, you will receive $5 for every person who joins through your site. ) 11 Million people in 37 countries now use paypal. (After entering their site, click their logo, then click 'worldwide' for a list of countries) Paypal is especially useful at Ebay, where the great majority of sellers accept it for payment.

zoozI2000, PayPal is an online payment service. It's favored by users of online auctions like Ebay because it is a simple and secure way to pay for things online. It's actually pretty convienent and you can use it without a credit card. Some merchants don't like to use it because they do keep a percentage of each transaction that they process... my suspicion is that's why 'rosity doesn't use them...few sites do, actually, outside of Ebay sellers. I think that it may work here if 'rosity left it up to the merchant whether to accept those payments. The added percentage could come from the merchant's portion of the payment (as a merchant myself, I have no problem with this) and not cost 'rosity a cent. Just an idea.

I think that paypal charges a low percentage if the money comes from within a paypal account.. and a high percentage if someone is paying with a credit card through paypal. Since Renderosity has an alternate way to process credit cards, they only need to use paypal for payments that originate from the account. I just looked at their site.. and if Renderosity became "Pay Pal Preferred" (which I think only involves signing up to get interest on their money.. an added bonus).. then their fee is only .7% plus 30 cents per transaction... with NO fee for international transactions.

Paypal's merchant fees are actually on par or less than accepting credit cards through a normal merchant account. I think this would only help Renderosity make money. I'm glad to see that other people besides me want this.

And then there's the programming to integrate support for another method of payment into an existing e-commerce shopping cart. ;) There's a bit more involved than just Renderosity signing up for a PayPal account. But this is an issue we are looking into. Thanks for all the feedback. Russell

I have asked the folks here to accept PayPal whenever they send out their questionnaire. Russell did hit on something I had not really considered. It could be something of a hassle to setup what would have to be most likely, a totally separate checkout system just for PayPal. It is relatively easy to setup a PayPal Shopping Cart system, but running TWO distinct systems on the site could be logistical pain in the a.. neck. However, there may be a compromise. PayPal does offer a "virtual" debit card via MasterCard for online purchases. The PayPal Debit Bar is available to U.S. members in good standing who have a positive balance in their PayPal account, have added a credit card to their PayPal account, and whose an account that has not been locked or restricted. More information is available from your PayPal account in the Shop Anywhere link. It is a debit and NOT a credit card, but any merchant that accepts MasterCard should accept this. There is, I believe, a $150 a day purchase limit (for security reasons) and, of course, you cannot spend more than what you have in your PayPal account. Russell, is there any reason I am not thinking of that would prevent Renderosity from accepting this just as they do any other MasterCard? Take care and be well. casamerica

Correct, it would appear to a merchant as just any other Mastercard. Russell

A few people report problems with PayPal so be cautious. http://www.paypalwarning.com/ http://www.paypalsucks.com/ One alternative which looks promising is www.c2it.com. On the other hand I have never had problems with my credit card. Plus there seems to be a fair amount of consumer protection with credit cards so I am unclear why people have a problem using them on-line. If you are really worried about it get a second card for on-line use and tell the company you want a low limit.

welcomesite ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 6:01 PM

I can't get the debit card because they require you to already have a credit card, which seems to eliminate most of the people who would want one. That's not my problem though... they rejected me because my company credit card's billing address is a post office box. I realize that accepting paypal might require a little programming. I wish that I had a bunch of people eager to send ME money.

markdc ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 6:12 PM

I believe www.c2it.com fees are higher and they don't have the user base that paypal has. I'm not suggesting that Renderosity get rid of the current method they use, but it would be nice if we had a choice. You're right about the consumer protection when it comes to credit cards, but they do make you jump through a few hoops (contacting your credit card company's fraud division, filing a police report, contacting all three credit agencies: it's a pain).

Well, I have been using PayPal for almost 9 months as both buyer and seller. The only problem I have encountered is a 40% increase in sales. ;] casamerica

I've gotten personalized emails from support at paypal when I've had questions. Another possibility is PayByCheck.com I use them to pay for my webhosting and haven't had any problems.

OK I admit it. I don't plan my buying as well as I should. I do it spur of the moment...especially when it comes to software... alas. I'd just like to say a big thanks to the store for limiting my access. My dollars are resting peacefully, safely. Paypal is way way to easy for me to use. It's like writing a check right out of my checking account. The only bad part is that it shows up as PAY PAL in glowing letters that my wife sees in the statement. :(

Deberus ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2001 at 12:36 PM

To tell the truth if I can buy the same product over at the 3d- commune I will just because they accept paypal. So yes, I too would spend more if the market place accepted paypal. But I doubt they ever will. Oh well ++++Deberus as a footnote I spent about 3k here in the last year and about 2k via paypal at the commune. Also RDNA takes paypal, and to no supprise I own all that they have produced. Why? It's like writing a check, comes out of my checking account, so no CC interest BS
