Subject: Plant _Problems

vibes30 ( ) posted Mon, 11 February 2002 at 10:09 PM · edited Wed, 26 February 2025 at 6:56 AM

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this - I purchased the vegetation package from e-onsoftware and installed it exactly as the directions instructed, they appear in the preview window under plant objects but when I try to place them in the scene it gives me the error: "unable to read file C:/Program Filese-onsoftwareVue D'Esprit 4plants8rKentia.veg" for example but with every single on i installed. Kinda frustrating paying $94.00 and emailing there tech support twice with the problem with no response!

Vibes, write with subject "URGENT purchased plants" to : sbell.support@e-onsoftware.com Remember to them that you already wrote twice. You are not the only with this problem, and I'm sorry to say that you have to wait for an answer, because they are very busy at this moment to fix problems with the new update 4.05 and I think you are not alone to write for some problem. But be sure that e-on's people will always answer, just needs a bit time. I understand your feeling, because we all feel frustrated when we purchase something what refuses to work. You did not say what version of Vue you are using. Have you installed 4.03 patch ? If not, please do so before writing to them again. And let us know what happens. Guitta

Thanks for your reply! Yes I have installed all the latest patches - I am running Windows 2000 2 gigs ram Oxygen GVX 420 Video card Dual Pentium 933 Vue 4.03-02 I think it is , anyway I will just try to email them again thanks again for the reply!

I have exactly the same problem. I wrote e-on but didnt hear anything from them. Then after an advise from Guitta, I wrote to Steve Bell, and after about two days (the same day the 4.05 update came) he wrote back to tell me that there was an update that should be fixing this problem. But it didnt help. I wrote Steve Bell again, but I havent heard anything from him, and in the meantime they had removed the update from the homepage. So now I dont know what is best - keep the 4.05 update or remove the program and go back to 4.03 ?

Interesting! I just wish that they ought to at least have the courtesy to put a not on their site that the VEGETATION PACK WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY SO DON'T waste your money at this time. They have to know hm....??? Ridiculous........... I really like the program but from what I have seen their support is something to be desired. I have sent off another email labeled urgent but with no response yet! So far $94.00 down the drain...it will make me think twice before purchasing anything else off there site.......

I had massive problems with the veg pack. (different issues to start with) and then some of them wouldnt install correctly etc etc...

I have to say this :

Although they took their time in responding...they are obviously very very busy...they did respond in the end and solved my problems.

All I can suggest is that you keep trying to get through to them. Give them at least a week to respond. If this does not work..then I would suggest that you contact Lynn Fredricks the e-on business manager in the US.

he is listed as a member on this site, and if u do a quik forum search here you will find his user name and contact info.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for responding Sacred Rose - BTW did you get your veg pack working? I guess I am just frustrated with the whole ordeal... If anything I still feel they should post a note on there site saying there are issues with the veg pack rather than waiting for people to buy it and then get flooded and very busy with emails about things not working correctly!! Just a thought :) but yes I plan on getting a clear answer, fix, or refund, whatever the case may be until this is resolved.

In answer to your question {{{did you get your veg pack working?}}} Yes.....it all finally works. I can well understand the frustration you are experiencing, I too have had my fair share of frustrating moments and outbursts etc. :) All I can suggest is that you keep at them until u get a response and a fix.

When I bought the veg pack I had that problem with two of the ten plants. I fixed it myself but don't remember how, however I do remember that it wasn't a big deal. I think maybe I just reinstalled the two bad ones. Can you install them one at a time? If so, try doing one and see if it works.

vibes30 ( ) posted Tue, 12 February 2002 at 10:18 PM

ok I tried installing one at a time with the same result. It still comes up with an unable to find error even though the name and file extension are in the directory where it says it is unable to load from. And still no response from VUE - I tried calling there office but all I get is a damn recording directing me back to the web site for tech support & the one person I did talk to gave me a number to yet another recording directing me back to the website email address for tech support. sigh Would it be wrong to upload the veg pack to my ftp with the serial numbers for the plants to see if anyone else can get it to work??? j/k Only if there tech support were as supportive as all of you! Thanks

Vibes, uploading your plant files would not help, because each user has special serial numbers for it, working only with the individual Vue d'Esprit serials. Guitta

I just got 2 extra vegetations yesterday and have the same problem. Quite frustrating to see that it might take weeks until the problem gets fixed. One thing that puzzles me is that all extra vegetations I have installed under Vue 2 work fine with Vue 4.03. I have not re-installed these vege species but copied the whole plant directory just as indicated in the supporting documentation. So installing the extra vegetations using Vue 2 or 3 and then copy the new plants into the Vue 4 plant directory might be a workaround for this bug. Unfortunately I have deleted my old version and don't want to reinstall it ... Christoph

vibes30 ( ) posted Wed, 13 February 2002 at 9:54 AM

That is interesting! and unfortunately Vue 4 is the only version I have so my options are quite limited. I spent a couple hours last night trying everything i could think of to get it to work to no avail. I did call the Portland Oregon office and leave a message but it is anybodys guess if I will get a response. The thing that keeps bothering me is the fact that e-onsoftware is quick to take the order and take the money out of my account but sloooowwwww... to respond to any sort of technical support.. I will keep my efforts posted and hopefully we can reach a workable solution.

This is a long shot, but do you have any anti-virus running in the background? I had exactly the same problem, and when I disabled McAffe's background scan and the option to scan on copy/paste, it worked, and I managed to get all my plants installed.

vibes30 ( ) posted Wed, 13 February 2002 at 10:41 AM

I actually have no anti virus at all. My system is very clean - Windows 2000 - Photoshop 6 - 3D Studio Max 4.2 - Vue 4 - Flash 5 - Premeiere 6 - and a few other design related programs. I have always left off anti-virus programs because like you i have had problems in the past. Thanks for the post though.

Well it looks like the new update fixed the plant issue on installing the vegetation pack. LESSON LEARNED: Don't bother writing tech support you won't get an answer anyway, may as well sit back relax and just wait till they decide to make an update available. Interesting company!!! BTW thanks all for your support and suggestions in this matter -

gerberc ( ) posted Wed, 13 February 2002 at 12:30 PM

Mike, I tried what you have suggested, disabeled all McAfee features, rebooted my PC, and reinstalled my new plants. Unfortunately the result was the same, the plants are in the browser but can't be placed in a scene. Thanks for the post anyway. Christoph

vibes30 ( ) posted Wed, 13 February 2002 at 12:32 PM

Have you installed the latest update 4.05-02? Then reinstall the plants!

gerberc ( ) posted Wed, 13 February 2002 at 1:31 PM

Just did it - problem solved. Thanks everybody. Christoph

Klausm ( ) posted Wed, 13 February 2002 at 6:07 PM

I also tryed to install the update 4.05-02 but it didnt help.
I just got a mail from Steve Bell, you can read here what he wrote:

"Hi Klaus,

Again, I apologize for the delay. We will be re-releasing 4.05 very
soon (possibly tomorrow). If it still doesn't work with that, I'd like
you to send me your serial number and vegetation keys so I can
check out what is wrong.

Thanks for your help.
Regards."
