I ask before, what Cr2 editor can do ?
I just use it and cannot get a right thing. then I test by just oepn the cr2 file, save it in another name.
when I click on the new cr2 file, the poser crash!
I am useing poser4, not 4.03 does it matter?

Which program are you using? The one that is here in our freestuff area? Or the one on DAZ? The one in our freestuff area here is version 1.52 And it has a bug in it, and doesn't work properly. A .cr2 file contains all of the instructions for a figure's behavior. I guess you could think of it as the brain of the figure. Every figure has it's own specific .cr2 file. With at least two lines of text pointing to where the 3Dmodel is located on your computer. (the .obj file). Look at the PoserTecnical FAQ's if this is new to you. You can open it in any text editor like WordPad if you don't have anything else to use. Those CR2 programs are really just "WordPad" type programs. Setup to display the text in .cr2 files, in an easier to read format. ScottA

Hi Scott, to clarify, CR2Edit is NOT a text editor, although it includes as one of its 75 or so tools a dual pane one that I think is the best around. All is automated, about the only reasons to use the Manual Editor is if you are curious or like Anton above, discovering yet new wonders! Most users will never see a line of a Poser file, they just click the buttons to say extract embedded geometry and create a library file with an external obj and it is done. And I prefer that people get it from my site if possible, since Daz of course takes 50%, its only there as a convenience for those who can't use PayPal. Dan PS Scott, our VB thread is down around #300 or so now, but its still growing, LOL! http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps

ScottA ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 1:44 PM

And just what do those 75+ tools control? Answer: Text It's text editor Dan. You just hid that behind your fancy pantsy UI. ;-) Seriously though. I sometimes reduce things to very simple terms because I never know how much users know about the subject. I didn't mean to diminish your programming in any way. Everyone who owns a computer has had to use a text editor at some point. So I like to keep things familiar for them until they are comfortable with all the technical lingo. Yeah. That thread took a hellava turn didn't it? I really apprieciate your help. I bet it looks like hyroglyphics to most people. ;-) ScottA

Hey, I'll play the semantics game, LOL! What do all the tools in PhotoShop control? Text! Open a graphics file in the Manual Editor and take a peek, and if you know what you are doing you can change values to change the picture. The first 2 characters of a TIF file, for example, tell you if it is a Mac or Intel file (ASCII MM or II), the next byte is ASCI 42, which means this is a TIF. Change that by even one digit and you have just destroyed the picture. You can even find all kinds of actual words in a graphics file, a TIF can have everything from the computer name, user name, time created, time modified, printers attached to system -- the TIF format spec sheet is 600 pages.... Anyway, CR2Edit is intended to make a text editor a tool only for Discoverers and masochists. I can manipulate a graphics file in the manual editor, but what's the point?(unless I'm trying to find a new way to manipulate them in one of my graphics apps) That's what paint programs are for. The other thread: good thing it is buried now, or you'd have to lock it cuz it was so OT, LOL! But I'll keep an eye on it, so if you get stuck just put up a message, I'm a teacher at heart. cheers, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps

Heh - coming from UNIX-land, I just download WinVI on my laptop (stuck w/ Windows there) and then just edit the critter directly ;) VB as in Visual Basic? (shudder!) Ick, dude! /P "VI VI VI: The Editor of The Beast"

dwilmes ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 10:15 PM

The thing to note here is "THE critter". The hobbyist making a MAT file or two can certainly take the time to learn how to make it in a text editor, but the professional trying to make a little money in the Poser game who needs to make 150 in a day, including testing each one... And I won't be sucked into the Linux VS Win thing, I hope some day there is a Poser for Linux -- I started on an Apple2, LOL! cheers, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps

OhK I think there is a little tension hereK I always think those who give their time to write programs for freeware are great people. Those cr2 files come with poser are small, but those with many morphs were much bigger. I know that I can use text editor to edit a cr2 file, but if it is a 10mb file, wordpat is not very good. So I need another program. I still hope to use Cr2 editor if there are any new versions. And thanks for all friends that give me opinion. :)

triceratops2001 ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2002 at 3:27 AM

I forgot to say, the Cr2 editor I use was got from the freestuff section , I don't it is related to the selling one or not....

"And I won't be sucked into the Linux VS Win thing, I hope some day there is a Poser for Linux -- I started on an Apple2, LOL!" Heh - wasn't really my intention - I happen to prefer Linux or Solaris (and do nearly all of my modelling in Linux), but since Poser running under WINE is extremely unstable, I pretty much use Windows to run Poser. (I incidentally hold an MCSE in both WinNT4.0 and Win2k. I believe that you use what you must given the circumstances.) I agree that CR2Edit is wonderful for those who handle .cr2 files on a massive basis, and wasn't out to knock your hard work at all... for those who aren't used to doing diff and grep, CR2Edit is a wonderful tool. As for VB, I was just poking you in the ribs - I prefer C++ to do my dirty work, even though I will always suck at coding. :p /P PS: My first computer was a TI99-4/A

Actually, Dan graphics are 7 bit files, graphics are 8 bit, so there is a difference! As you probably know, I bought your great program, but never actually used it, as the interface sort of put me off. But I gather that you've changed the interface since then, so I really aught to look into it. However, to be perfectly honest, because I know my way around a CR2 or PZ2 and I'd really not have a program too removed from the raw guts- The current CR2 Editor is perfect except for a couple of things, like you can't cut and paste a ERC section in, you have to do it as a whole channel or line-by-line. However, it has major problems with todays bigger CR2s, though, I really, really gotta start using your program! You have tutorials or something available too, don't you? Feel free to put up a link to whatever you have!

Peng., I agree that OS wars are senseless, and my mentioning the Apple was only to show that I had no such prejudices (and didn't mean to imply that you had any either) For coding, I use what works best for the purpose, I have used assembly, Basic flavors, C flavors and Delphi. Since I don't make games anymore, I nearly always work in Basic, I don't need the direct access to low-level stuff when all most of my stuff does is process data, and I do need speed of developing, I can't spend hours looking for memory leaks and unreleased pointers. I have written 12000 lines for CR2Edit6 in the past 2 weeks, in addition to my regular work, and I know I could never do that in any other language. If I went back to game writing? C++ all the way. As for text editors, as I said for the ocassional user that's fine, just be VERY careful, one bracket left out in the middle of a 20MB file can spell disaster. Much safer and faster to just click a button. Jim, you got a typo there for sure with "graphics" twice, but reguardless, graphics files vary in the way they store their data, a TIF for example has values that are 8, 16, 32 bit plus 4 and 8 byte IEEE, plus regular old text-style 1 byte. For this last, you just read the byte as an ASCII value, for say a 32 bit value, you read each of the 8 bits in 4 sucessive bytes. My records say you have 4.02, which is 13 builds behind the last ver4 release, more than 2 years old. You won't have much luck with today's big files with it, Vicki 1 at 10MB was the biggest thing around then, by a huge factor. I can send you the last ver4 update, but it won't help much for those biguns. There are tutorials at http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/tutorials/tutorials.html ,but they're really for ver5. As for the interface, you can blame Daz for that, they designed it, LOL! What they wanted was speed, not ease of use, so yes, it can take a while to learn how to use it so you can take advantage of that speed. Their philosophy -- 2 years ago -- was that no one but pros would be messing with Poser files, and so ver4 and much of 5 doesn't even have confirmations before overwriting a file. (They hated the idea of MS's "Are you really REALLY sure??") I have been sneaking in more safeguards ever since, tho. No one then envisioned that things would be like today, where everybody and his brother is out there hacking away -- I don't mean this in a bad way, where would we be without ERC and other such things brought to light by file hackers? Anyway, ver6 is now bigger in file size than poser itself, largely because of the builtin help, tutorials, wizards for walkthrus, in an attempt to make this power easily accessible to all (All the help stuff can be turned off, of course, can you imagine Word if you couldn't make Mr Clippee shut up?!) I think the old ver4 help and tutorials are still at Arcana, not sure, but as I say, you won't be able to do much with ver4 with the sort of complex stuff that you make. cheers,Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps

Triceratops, You can get version 1.51 of that CR2 program if you join our PoserTECH list on Yahoogroups. That one is an earilier version. But it works much better. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PoserTECH/ It's in our Files section. ScottA
