Subject: I'm selling my Poser 5...

Xena ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 6:21 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 7:04 AM

Any takers? It's the full version, still in mint condition (of course). I'll sell it for $500 Australian/$285 American. You pay postage/shipping. It should be about $20 AU ($12 US) If interested, please contact me via email - xena@wicked-womyn-lair.com

After all I've skimmed on the EULA and Copyrights and whatnot, I wouldn't think you could sell Poser 5. Transfer of Licence?

DraX ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 6:42 PM

Why are you getting rid of it, Xena? Too many bugs?

Xena ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 7:06 PM

xenic .. Curious Labs has a Transfer of Ownership form on their site that can be used for just this sort of thing :) Drax, Poser 5 cost me a fortune and I just can't warrant owning something that doesn't work properly. It's sitting here in it's pretty box doing nothing. I don't even have it installed. I don't have time to beta test software, nor fiddle around getting things to work. I need to be able to open the program, set up my render and click a button. This I can do quite sufficiently in Pro Pack. So I may as well get rid of P5. One day maybe if it's ever bug free I might just buy the upgrade ... if the Daz program isn't all I think it's going to be :)

BeatYourSoul ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 8:07 PM

But if you do install it and get the SR1 patch (or SR2 beta patch, if you're feeling lucky), you'll get some things you don't get with P4PP - vastly improved materials setup, face room (ok, not so great :), dynamic cloth room, and hair (real hair, not some trans map or block posing as hair). There are no add-ons for P4PP (nor will there ever be any) to match these features. And, with the patch, it should work well (of course, this isn't true in all cases). BTW, if you own P4PP, why did you spend a fortune on P5? Did you miss the upgrade messages, mail, pages, flyers, blimps? ;) Shoulda cost no more than $150 or $200 (US), even in Australia. I couldn't imagine CL limiting upgrades to priviledged US owners only. BeatYourSoul

Beat Your Soul, I have P5 with all the patches and I am still having a lion's share of crashes, etc. This program seems to work differently on different setups. Its a gamble. Xena, I understand your frustration.

Xena, I don't blame you. Like you, I have a business to run and do not have the time to be a lab rat for Curious Labs. We have 7 systems and I am very thankful that I only bought P5 for 1 system instead of going "whole hog" during the "unbeatable pre-order price" period. I have yet been able to use P5 for a single project. Not one. I dare not start a project in P5. What am I going to do when it freezes, crashes, locks up, pukes out yet another "C exception" or simply refuses to load a previously saved pz3 file? I know, I'll just tell my client, "Sorry, but Curious Labs tells us they're right on top of everything and shouold have Poser 5 working sometime in the not too distant future." Right. And the galling part of it all is that everytime someone brings up the obvious faults of this software abortion we hear,"Well, it works for me! Perfect! Fantastic!" Or we're told it is user error or user inexperience. Excuse me, but can someone tell me how the C exceptions are due to user error? User inexperience? Sorry, Xena. Didn't mean to hijack your thread here. Been away for a few weeks and returned to see the same crap. Good people have been had. Nothing has really changed. We're still expected to be unpaid lab rats. Nope. Ain't gonna happen. And there will be justice. casamerica New computer - $2100.00. New desk - $500.00. New 3d models - $400.00. Poser 5 Worthless. For everything else, theres Poser 4 and Vue dEsprit.

Beat, I bought the full version as I was going to install Pro Pack on the kids machine, so I thought I'd do the right thing. The material room looks great, although it doesn't really apply to me as a clothing modeller (not a texturer anymore). The hair is laughable and I'd take a Kozaburo freebie over the P5 hair anyday. I've yet to see a render of it that doesn't look wiry and sparse. The dynamic cloth, on the other hand is the main reason I pre-ordered :) And Cas, go right ahead :) You understand my frustrations I think. If I had the time to play around getting it to work correctly for me (assuming I can even download such large patches on my dialup) then maybe I'd keep it. Maybe not.

casamerica ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 6:53 AM

Xena, wait a minute. I was under the impression that CL had promised those who could not dl the patches that they would send them the patches on CD. Is this not true? Take care and be well. casamerica

Xena ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 6:58 AM

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right on that :) I didn't even bother trying to download them as I just knew they'd never come down on this crap line. Plus I don't have it installed so it was kind of a moot point anyway :)

casamerica ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 7:01 AM

I understand. Believe me, I understand. This entire affair kinda gives you the same feeling as if your best friend had just kicked you in the stomach, doesn't it? Take care and be well. casamerica

This is why God invented ebay. Bet there's a few copies of P5 up there already...

BeatYourSoul ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 9:35 AM

Well, I tried. ;0) Someone's gotta play devil's advocate. Mosca: Oh, glorious god! How we love eBay, er, I mean you (nevermind). BeatYourSoul

JohnRender ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 10:56 AM

Isn't there any way that CL will take back the CD? Isn't there some kind of "merchantability warranty" where you can return the package because it doesn't work on your computer? Why take a loss on it if you can force CL to take it back. And who knows, maybe other people will be able to return it also.

Mosca ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:06 AM

Well, the fact that they're releasing all these patches to try to fix what appear to be dozens of bugs is kind of an admission that the product, as sold, is defective. I would think they'd be required to provide full refunds for defective product, yes.

sargebear ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 12:46 PM

AND WHILE FOLKS wait for CL to release patches 1,2,3, and i'm sure MANY more to come, . they lose time and money. and to get your money back from them. well thats to be seen. i don't blame xena for selling her copy or for anyone one else for that matter. i feel sorry for them that they paid alot of money for a Lego type program.i rememebr the time when poser was king, now it just a jester.

JohnRender, I'm thinking of getting rid of my P5 too. I do animation, and like a lot of other people here, I haven't been able to complete even a short project on this piece of bug-ridden junk. I mean, fair enough, with a new program you expect some bugs, but YE GODS!! I think this program must deserve a mention in the Guinness Book of Records... I would love to know if anyone, anywhere, has found P5 to deliver on its loud promises. Because you're absolutely right about the "merchantability warranty". In this country, a product has to be 'fit for intended use'(ie, do what it claims on the box). Of course this makes it difficult to sell the wretched thing... I could get somebody sueing me for selling them the useless pile of junk, and I don't have CL's resources to fight the case. :)
