Once was the time when members gave away their freestuff and everyone benifited. Tisa, curious that you complain about free stuff, and you don't have any free stuff to give away. I guess I should not talk, I only have one item posted.

The way I figure it, this place is here to make a profit, we get to bitch and moan as a consequence, YMMV later jb

lol fauve :) mosca - you know what i mean. renderosity is a marketplace community. i see no need to deny that, or hide it. so is RDNA, DAZ, Commune, Rotica, 3dcafe etc. even poserpros, which was propagandised as a nonprofit company and therefore 'better' than rosity set up a marketplace awful fast. without the marketplaces funding these communities, and merchant contributors, these communities would dry up awful fast as people realised that administrators, the massive bandwidth usage generated by thousands of people logged on at all times, and contest prizes/etc cost money. people trashing the marketplace, and saying that we need to go back to having everything out there as freestuff, are really missing the big picture. most merchants began with freestuff contributions, and merchants like philc, who i look up to a lot, are industriously providing the community with an endless supply of quality items which they invested their time in and ask nothing in return. while freestuff is great, and i myself am working on a couple new additions with rio, its not going to pay for the costs of this community. its funny how so many people are hypocrits though. bebop, with his new nicknames like Keep_It_Free, and his constant assaults on renderosity merchants, seems to forget the fact that he was a renderosity merchant too. yes, one of us evil, moneygrubbing, profiteering bastards. the only reason his items were offerred up as freestuff is because he was BANNED from the marketplace and the community. and partly as a last-ditch attempt to gain some sortof favor with the rosity masses who hated his guts. "And I actually agree that some of the recent additions to the merchant pool would be well advised to cut their teeth in Free Stuff first" agreed

sometimes a render is just a render sometimes a render actually becomes art [whatever that is] i'm not an artist either... at best, i'm the proverbial hobbyist... and as stated above, i have contributed my share of promo type images... i sometimes get itchy to create though i lack inspiration, yet still i need to scratch lest i go mad in my obsession with trying to improve... my true palette and brushes are words, not paint, digital or otherwise, so i'm in want to overcome my weaknesses... maybe one day i shall get "there", but i seriously doubt it given my character make-up... i digress... the disappointment you feel, Tisa, whenst cruising through i've encountered myself... !!lots!! of pretty images to be certain, but feeling "moved" by something in the Poser galleries? well, it's been quite a while aside from one or two images i've been lucky enough to stumble across, and more oft than no, they're images that are not technically "sound" and probably shine brighter because of this... rarer still is the image that is technically spot on and stirring all at once... t'is all a matter of taste, of course :) i am sincerely curious to know that were these pages filled with images that you considered to be artistic but that also utilised and promoted MP items, if you might still feel the same way? or is that just not a possibility for you? i can understand if it might be a thin line... and whilst what Gabriel said may be true, that those contributing to the MarketPlace are "driving" this site, that sadly also says that money comes before all else... course it also leaves off the fact that customers must buy in order to make it fly... ;) "art" really does imitate life, eh? [hehe] i do have an enormous amount of respect for a large number of creators/contributors of the MP - please do not misunderstand, as were it not for them i could not have explored a number of things that i've been able to thusly... i've learned so much already... but i do agree in many ways that things have changed here in the past two years where it seems there is far more promotion for goods in the MP not only through obvious advertising and placement, but in the galleries too... i think it worthy to note that these "changes" were obviously consensual, that contributing posters to the galleries have somewhere along the way agreed that this is acceptable as a collective whole, that viewers have agreed, that users that are signing up and repeatedly returning for whatever reasons have agreed... symbosis at its finest hour, i imagine... above somewhere someone mentioned that if you disagreed with things to start contributing in a way you find acceptable, the way you'd like to see things start to move and maybe change into... that's an excellent thought, and one that has me thinking about my own decisions and actions, my own visions, desires and responsibilities here as a "member"... be you "troll" to dismiss, or seriously concerned, for me it matters very little... somehow through all of these posts i've come away with something for myself, something to chew upon, grow from with any luck and a re-affirmation of sorts of what i wanted to do whenst i first started in all of this "art" stuff... and oddly, i honestly wish to thank you for this, Tisa :))

IT IS THE USE OF THIS FORUM AND THE POSER GALLERY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADVERTISING THAT I OBJECT TO NOT ANYTHING ELSE THAT THE REST OF YOU CARE TO MAKE UP. HOW LOUD DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS BEFORE IT SINKS IN.

*"And Hiram--I'm pretty sure that's a cow, not a horse."* Damn! It said "Horse" on the *package!* Actually, Mosca, I'm certain it's a horse. You can see why at the link above. Besides, wasn't I supposed to tell you to shut up and get back to work?

Blackhearted ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 6:28 PM

and i object to this forum and the galleries being used by an immature little troll to draw attention to herself and stir up shit. so whats your point?

Mosca ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 6:34 PM

Bh, I do know what you mean, and respectfully beg to differ. Without buyers, there can be no sellers--not the other way around. "while freestuff is great, and i myself am working on a couple new additions with rio, its not going to pay for the costs of this community." Not sure I agree with you here, either. I first started coming here back in the old, dark PFO days because of freestuff. I'm guessing a lot new folks first arrive on these shores for the same reason--and end up as marketplace captures when they see what's available. I've discovered a number of favorite merchants through high quality items they've posted to free stuff--Dark Whisper in particular (though, sadly, most of his free stuff items were pulled some time ago). Sure, merchants are doing us all a considerable favor by posting the occasional free item--but they're doing themselves a favor, too (a little like in WWII, when the tobacco companies gave free cigarettes to the Red Cross, which were then handed out to the boys in the trenches). One more thing--I don't know if it's true for everyone, but for me every MP purchase has been, in part, a conscious decision to pay back R'osity in some small part for all the fine, free services they provide. I figure that gives me the right to be a pain in the ass.

If the "art" here doesn't move you, maybe you should stop complaining about it and go look elsewhere, troll.

Tisa ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 6:39 PM

"immature little troll" Thanks for the compliment Blackhearted. As I'm 52 and weigh far too much. But as you have already admitted to telling lies I'm not sure whether I can believe you. Sweet dreams.

Mosca ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 6:40 PM

Hiram-- My bad. It's a horse all right. And I can't very well go back to work when the Simpsons are on, now can I?

"But as you have already admitted to telling lies I'm not sure whether I can believe you. Sweet dreams." He never did. That was your thinly veiled attempt at a spin. I was going to let it go before you pressed it. And I'm with BH, you're a guy. Gender shows in writing choices more that some of us realize. You have a real tendency to go scrotal when you don't get enough attention, hence these periodic posts. Of course you will deny it, you pretty much have too, but I just wanted to let you know that more than one of us noticed. In fact, I noticed it back during those previous posts. Nightie-night.

Blackhearted ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 6:52 PM

but do you see what im saying? freestuff is a part of the marketplace. if all of a sudden there would be no renderosity store, then everything else would dry up fast - no freestuff, no forums, no contests, no tutorials, nothing.. and no, dont get me wrong. im not saying that everyone here is obligated to purchase something from the marketplace to support the community. what i AM saying is that there are many who do, and they dont feel obligated at all. they purchase items because they like what they see and think its higher quality than a lot of the freestuff thats out there. noones shoving anything down their throats, merely offering their work and asking for a small fee as compensation. i spent a month on this latest pack, and so did rio. is $20 asking a lot to compensate me for that, or to receive the outcome of that work and avoid spending all that time yourself? i guess thats for everyone to decide for themselves. but im sick and tired of little shit disturbers like tisa trolling merchants galleries, posting defamatory comments on their works, and starting up posts ranting about how awful the marketplace is and how we should be obligated to only provide freesutff... thats a fucking crock. im sorry, but i have bills to pay. i try to give back to the community by working on free items, but mostly on free additions to my existing packs and answering peoples questions, emails and IMs on everything from texturing to rendering. and mosca - are you serious about the 'natural body hair' texture? define 'natural body hair', heh. dude i am NOT asking rio grow out her armpit hair for source material :( cheerio, -gabriel

praxis22 ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 6:57 PM

It's a gallery, I can't say that the implicit, "advertising" pisses me off that much to be honest. Though I do tend to get annoyed at the constant seesawing between over-photoshop'ed fantasy epics and attempts at making atristic "statements" and why is it that every vicky has to have the same face? By that I mean, not her default one. The same overdone colagen lips, and "microlite" noses... Isn't it enough that we have one Micheal Jackson in the world?!? :) Personally I think we should just get back to the T&A and magic pink ponies, an yes, even "Vickies in temples, sans armour, with sword/helmet" and be done with it. We can't all be artists and deep thinkers. Some of us have to talk shite, lest sanity rears it's ugly head, cos then we're really buggered :) later jb

SnowSultan ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 6:58 PM

Tisa, I understand your point, although I don't really find the forums full of advertising like you say. Indeed, the Marketplace here has become a joke and everyone is cranking out whatever they can make in order to try and bring in some cash. It's not what you're saying that I totally disagree with, it's how you choose to say it. Please think about how you come across to the artists here before starting a thread like this. Saying that this is not an "art" site and how many bad Poser renders there are offends many people, especially considering the comments you have made in the past. Anyway, I apologize for any misunderstanding. This site may not be what it used to be, but it's members like us who can at least try to keep it entertaining, informative, and friendly. SnowS

I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.

Mosca ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 7:09 PM

I see what you're saying, Bh, and I agree in the main. I think we're arguing the chicken and the egg. Buying from the MP may be more complicated for me than for others, I don't know--but I didn't say I felt obligated. I'm just aware, as I'm clicking that "agree" button, that part of what I'm doing is supporting the site. As you said above. I kind of like the little shit disturbers, but then, I kind of like driving the Jersey turnpike, too. If life was all chocolate pie, we'd all be sick to death of chocolate. And pie. Re the natural body hair thing--I'm thinking of kind of a Euro look; a little armpit tuft, maybe, and a nice patch of untrimmed pubic hair. I guess you're too young to remember Oui, the 70's Playboy spinoff.

I'll say it again just for you so hopefully it may sink in. I am not objecting to merchants selling I'm saying do it in the right place as is clearly stated by the admins of this site.

"IT IS THE USE OF THIS FORUM AND THE POSER GALLERY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADVERTISING THAT I OBJECT TO NOT ANYTHING ELSE THAT THE REST OF YOU CARE TO MAKE UP. HOW LOUD DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS BEFORE IT SINKS IN." Crap - this is the same old "Is it art?" thread you created before. Personally I like seeing the renders from the Advertisers and people who buy a new product and just have to do a render (I do it as well). It shows me what's out there and what people are working on. Honestly Tisa - if you don't like it just leave. You have shown no Poser orientated work of value and you just like to stir up trouble. I don't care whether you're 52 or 5 - still the same problem... you're a trouble stirring Troll.

Mosca ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2002 at 7:50 PM

Actually I think she has a point, but apparently also a history of trolling the galleries--andno outstanding work of her own; so no credibility. Point made, point taken. Next!
