Hello to the peolpe out there...

A few days ago I saw the GForce FX "Dawn" demo and I started to think in a way of making wings for Poser(maybe someone already did this...)

Here's a pic of a WIP on wings that I'm currently working on.This is a set of 40 Easy Pose bones along a large wng bone, each one with it's own individual feather(almost 100 of them)...

The idea is to make some real movement of the feathers, this is kinda working well, the only disadvantage that I'm seein it's the polycount, one individual wing is about 60,000 polys(even whit each feather at the lowest polycount posible, avoiding too squared feathers...

Aslo a pic of the current update on my anime character...

Any commnets or suggestions will be apreciated...

I made a set of wing a loooong time ago based on publically available mesh. I think they were first set made not nearly as ambitous as yours. (You may be able to find them do a search of "phil Hokusai" my old pen name.) I tried making sililar to yours but not nealy as detailed. Instead of hi-poly feather based in a mesh how about transmapped feathers instead?

I'm gonna try that... Thanks... Ascii (

WOW They look SO GREAT!! And yes, the thought of transmapping crossed my mind as well when I read about the poly count. Only problem with transmapping them would be that a cartoon-with-lines-render like the one above would not be possible. droooool Those wings.... gorgeous!

One more thing... All the feathers can be transmapped using a single feather template...

The wings look wonderful - great job! And your anime model is darn cute - where did you find her?

I didn't find her, it's made from scratch... She will be avaliable soon... Maybe someone can came up with a name for her...

How about Angel-Elf? Usted puede llamarla "Angel-Elf" in Ingl, pero en Espal .... I can beta-test on Mac OS if needed.

Annie may. ^_^

I built a set of ERC wings a while ago, but could never overcome the collision problems.

I attempted to have the feathers fold the way they do on a real bird wing.

I'll see if I can dig up a few pics.

Asciicodeplus your wings looks pretty cool! grea job. I loved the the Idea of the single template for each one of the wings, when I was making my textures for my wings noticed that it was a really paint to texturize them :). LordNakagawa or Hokusai or what ever, "your" wings was a poser conversion from a 3ds file from my original free release of my angel wings (thanks for the credit BTW), those wings has been updated and improved a long time ago,the current model is able to poser each feather.

Great wings Asciicodeplus , Jeff and Virus . The way i textured Virus wing was to make some tubes in PSP then went back and made small changes in each one to make them a bit different. You can do the same thing in photoshop layers. I happen to love angel wings and have spent many hours trying to make 2d ones .

I didn't find her, it's made from scratch... Wow, the complete model? Cool. I like her big eyes and the pointy ears. She will be avaliable soon... Where, when, how much ;-)

Thanks for the comments everyone(specially Virus and JeffH)... Now I have some ideas for an updated wings... Puntomaus, if you want to beta test the girl before the release drop a IM with your mail(she will be mailed to you, along with the other 5 beta tester(an apology by the way to the beta testers, it's been a while since the las beta release)... By the way JeffH, those of your are rendered in Poser 5?.Actually I only have P4,I mention this for the comments about Collision, since P4 does not have collision detection I'm trying to make look the wings move the feathers as real as posible(this could be a problem)... Ascii, I did mine with poser 4 and due the collision detection problem thought the best way to solve this problem is to make each feather of the latest layers poseable, I know is a lot of work to poserize each wing but I can't fiigure it out other way to do this. Here is just an example of what I did to try to solve this problem. If you want the file I can send it to you, just IM :) Regards Virus

"By the way JeffH, those of your are rendered in Poser 5?."

No, that's P4 Pro Pack. When I mentioned collisions I was talking about the feathers folding through themselves.

This could probably be worked out with the JP's, but I had to stop working on it for a while.

My next step was to add the outer cover feathers and soon realized the size of the mesh was getting huge.

Maybe the outer feathers would work best as props?

ascii - that's beautiful. If you post a close up of one feather in a display mode that shows grids, perhaps people would have suggestions about other ways to reduce poly count? That is, maybe do some work with texture and transmap, but keep some polys for clarity? For example, since an individual feather is most visible near the tip, keep more polys there, but "cheat" (transmap) elsewhere. Likewise, if feathers slightly overlap each other, then one long edge is visible, other is hidden...

I meant "mesh" when I said "grids".
