Thread: Major Problems with Poser 5 service upgrade 4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
LOL, Well I actually got Tech Support to respond rather quickley, and YES one suggestion was to reinstall Poser 5 again (clean install). But I'm not sure if I need service relese 1 & 2, which I don't have after a HD crash. James
Thread: Major Problems with Poser 5 service upgrade 4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I just recieved an e-mail from CL, and they possibly explaind the background problem, but I'm still having lighting anomalies. I have "Rolled back" to Service Release 3 myself for the moment because that still works. So hopefully now they are aware of these problems and will release a patch or offer some solutions. Larryma, if you haven't already, please submit this to the tech support at CuriousLabs. JamesSF
Thread: p4 and p5 both installed on 1 machine? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yes, this works fine now since Poser 5 will allow you to find all the older Poser 4 folders. P5 actually installs in a completely different folder with it's own RunTime folder. BUT, P4 finding P5 folders and files is another story. P4 still ONLY looks in the RunTime folder associated with P4, and will not allow you to use the P5 runtime folder. I think once you get the feel and hang of the NEW differences in P% I think you'll switch. But that opinion only. Only you can determine what you are comfortable with. JamesSF

Thread: Last question Poser to Carrara | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Don't bother going over to that forum (sorry I'm a tad bitter about them). I have tried for almost a year to ask this very question with little to no response and or solution. The only way to fix this is to get the object file to another app like Bryce 4 or 5 and import it in , delete the "cornea" object (the outer eye), export it from Bryce as a new obj file and then import it into Carrara. Hope that sheds some light. James

As always, great stuff Phil. I do agree about the eyes on the Dork (I think the label Dork will stick with all the lowres males in this forum LOL) Now, how about sharing the process of creation? James
Thread: Poser, Atmosphere and Avatar Lab question and concern | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks Steve, This answers a lot. And Yes I read the EULA. I always do that first ;-) I know it's hard to keep things out of pirates hands even with protected programs. It's good to know that Adobe will be actively discussing this part of Atmosphere. I know the problems a public program like this must entail. Keep us aprised of event please. Have fun at Adobe, don't work too hard. James aka jschoen, aka JamesSF PS: Great wedding pics! And come visit us in my xmas world.

IT's hard to really see in this example, but from what I can see it looks great. Please post. James
Thread: Orc Discussion | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK, you asked for it Ghost.... First of all.. I love it! No here comes the critisim. The face is exceptional, and the texture is also beyond great, but I agree, this orc needs more of a Orcish body. Large feet and hands would help. a sunken in stomach (it's hard for orcs to get feed a lot). Muscles in the calves (these guys have a lot of marching to do) and forearms (lots of heavy axes to wield). Other than that, as useual Ghost, you've done a great job. James
Thread: DAZ on CL promotion. Warning: long-winded, but worth the read. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well said Dan. Thanks for posting and thanks for being a part of the Poser community. I still think to how much other things cost in comparison to the cost of Poser, Victoria, Michael and other Poser products. We are a luck community indeed to have such quality in your products and afforability of them. Again thanks. James
Thread: New Avatar Lab animation | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I concur, AL is great fun. And creating your own avatars from scratch (Using Poser Pro) is a lot harder than you'd think. And as you know Phil , trying to get the poly count down so it doesn't hang up the browser is no easy task. So I think Curious Labs have done a great job! And at this price (the price I thought it should be to start anyway ;-)) you can't not get it. Just to play around. As to the Quake-like appearance, I agree it CAN look that way, but it also CAN look like "Real Myst". I am a gamer, but not the shoot-em up game gamer. I like the Myst-like games. And with the Atmospher Builder (albeit you have to again try to keep poly counts low) it is amazing what you can do that is very pleasing to the eye. I'm creating a Victorian house in which to explore and bring people over to chat. James

Thread: Poser Pro Pack used for "The One" | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Coolness, I alwys watch all the DVD "extras" when I purchase a film on DVD. And on a lot of them, it shows what was done to Pre-visualize these kind of things. Often they refer to Mays or SoftImage, but what a great pat on the back Steve! It's nice to see that the "Big Guys" use software that we all can afford. But of course this was all done on Duel proccesors and hi end G4s (which are still a little pricey but within reach). I've seen poser used in so many proffessional ways, it make the mind reel. I'm glad that I've been a part of this since Poser "The pre-quel" ;-) James And I I'm getting LightWave for Xmas. Now to knit a stocking large enough for a duel G4 to fit in it. That'll never happen this year, but I can dream. I'll just have to up my memory on my G4 Cube and muddle through.
Thread: Infini-D and Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi jerr3d, First things first. Infini-D 4.5 was really only a minor bug fix and a few little enhancements to 4.01. Since I could never get 4.5 (It went out of production before I could upgrade) I don't really know if it handled mapping differently. I have 4.01 also for the MAC. (Dr Zik: Ever find 4.5 for the MAC that I could get) I use it a lot for props. Never for Figures. And a correction, it will import a 3dmf poser figure as parts/groups. But Infini-D's nameing protocol is incompatable with most programs. I.E. If you name a box in Infini-D "Mybox" When exported, it ends up as a generic "mesh 1" And the same with Textures. Name a texture "MyBlue" and it will export as "Material n". I believe this is inherrant of 3dmf exporting. But don't quote me ;-) So I'm assuming that 4.5 is still fairly out dated when it comes to any kind of UV mapping too. Do as Dr Zik says, do what you need in Infini-D and do a bunch of converting. Infini-D -->Poser--->UVMapper---->Poser, exporting accordingly. But don't get me wrong about Infini-D, I have Carrara (It's newest encarnation) and use Infini-D more to create props. Hope this helps.
