Welllllll.... The setting is in the 300th Year of the Ninth Federation. the mission of our gallant crew: to expand the frontiers of the Federation by visiting worlds long ago abandoned in the rise and fall of the previous Federations; to engage in archealogical research, especially for relics of the fabled Third Federation, whose technology, according to legend, approached the magical. I have an outline for the first story; when I find time I'll be scripting it out. With the ship design I'm doing exactly what I vowed not to do with this project: make things make "sense" and "believable". Ugh. What happens is I get bogged down in minutae. I'm looking toward a comic book-type thing, rather than a movie. Can't yet decide wether to make it a web-based thing, or a more traditional "book" in pdf format, to be downloaded. Chip, thanks for the vote of confidence. It's kind of neat, having a sort anticipation, and getting positive feedback. Sometimes I get dissatisfied with results before I'm ever finished with a project. tim

HOborg thanksforthe input. I wanted some sort of material that looked otherworldly, but I agree the chrome cuffs are distracting. As for leaking the project, I'm still smashing together starship designs and not happy with anything. Also, once I actually write the story (it's in my noodle right now) that will tell me that I might finish the damn thing, rather than consign it to the landfill of cool ideas I'll never finish ;)

Thanks. From there, do I import the bmp file into Photoshop, paint my texture? Then How do I apply it to my object in UVmapper or RDS?

Uh, I don't have an answer to your question... kind of hoping you could answer one for me. From your post, it sounds like you understand how to create texture maps for RDS using UVmapper. I personally have messed with it a bit, and have NO CLUE as to what to do. Can you give me a basic rundown on what's supposed to happen?
Thread: Holiday gifts? | Forum: Carrara
I wanted a G4 upgrade card for my S900 SuperMac at home, but Santa's already dropped a gift subscription to Astronomy magazine in my lap (I know, not a fair comparison, but I'm easy to please, too). As for the Mindstorms... i was quite excited to see in MacAddict a couple of months ago that there is a Mac version out. YOu just have to buy it through an educator plan. MacAddict had all the details, addresses and such. Think I might pick that up for my son's birthday...yeah, that's it... As for my midlife crisis machine, two years ago I bought a SUBARU LEGACY STATION WAGON!! I ROCK!!!! uh... well, it's a step up from the Tercel I was bombing around in....

Oh- some more explanation for you, Adam: The little girl is Clara (or Marie, in some versions) and the duck with the eyepatch is her godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer. Herr Drosselmeyer is quite the eccentric inventor; and every Christmas he brings the most fantastic toys for the kids. But Clara is his favorite, and for her he makes a strange little wooden man that cracks nuts open with his teeth. Despite his unusual appearance, Clara is drawn to the little man. That night, while all others are asleep, the most magical things happen (including a battle between toy soldiers, led by the Nutcracker, and the sinister Mouse King and his rodent minions). If you are interested, check out the ballet with McCauley Culkin. He dances like a hammer, but the rest of the production is superb. Harder to find, but equally good, is the production by the Pacific Ballet company. The set and costumes were designed by Maurice Sendak. This production is a little darker in tone, but worth seeking out.

I don't get the pun< Oops. Sorry. It's "The Nutquacker". My four-year-old is a ballet fan, and every two weeks (it seems) we watch one of the three tapes we have of "The Nutcracker", x-mas or no. And don't worry, I don't feel flamed. Sometimes it's easy for one to forget that the whole world is not necessarily in on the joke.

I'm migrating to formZ for my 8-5 job because i interface with engineering types and have to take .dwg files and such. But at home (and at lunch) it's still Ray Dream. I know the package pretty well, or at least well enough to create what I want without having to wrestle with it too much. I think artists will continue to use it until the point where Macs (and PCs) evolve to the point that they don't support such "legacy" apps; and that's a ways away.

Animate? Geez, it's enough just to eke out the time to model ;) Glad it made you laugh. I want to diverge from all the Poser stuff I see, just do something different. I have a half-baked idea for a comic-type thing with these characters, but we'll see how it plays out.
