Thread: I suddenly needed Hiro 4 and I can't use him for some reason. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hiro 4 is a derivative morph of Michael 4 and is the same mesh. The textures can be used interchangeably between the figures. Â
Yes, they can. I meant the difference when you load the figures is different textures. That is, Hiro and M4 are the same, if you set the Hiro dials to 0 in the Hiro figure, or inject the Hiro morphs and set them to 1 in M4. They look exactly the same, except the textures.

Ah, gotcha. FWIW, you shouldn't need M4 in the scene to use Hiro. They're basically the same figure, except for the textures.

randym77 posted at 3:55 PM Mon, 18 September 2023 - #4474785I know that's the theory, but in practice...I have to copy the !DAZ folder into my default runtime, or the morphs don't work. Or they work for awhile, then stop working. That is unnecessary. The BAT file must be located in the same runtime folder where the M4 base is installed. If the Poser main runtime is located within Program Files in Windows, there will be further complications with UAC interfering with proper function. ÂRead this thread. Have you tried initializing M4? That has to be done each time you install M4, or install new morphs for him. It's a .bat file located in the runtime/libraries/!DAZ folder.
It may help to copy the !DAZ folder to your main runtime, if you're using multiple runtimes.
To be clear...the BAT file is in my M4 runtime. After I run the BAT file, I copy the !DAZ folder to my default runtime. Which is on an external drive, not in Program Files.

Just noticed this bit:

3) Try to Use "DAZ's Mike 4 - Morph injections - Hiro 4" from Poses Library - but they dont work! Like @Curved Blinking@ or Realistic face for example.
Morphs from dials work, but they are distorted.
The morph injections won't change the figure until you apply them using the dials. The morph injection "pose" just adds the dial to Hiro. You have to adjust the dial to see a change in the figure.
I never use those individual morph injections. You can just inject them all at once using INJ Hiro 4. The individual morph injections date from a time when computers were much less powerful than they are now. People injected only the morphs they needed, to save system resources.

M4 must be initialized for the morphs to work. Perhaps you did it without remembering you did it?
There can be problems if you install it in an external runtime. I think because where Poser looks for the files can be unpredictable. Copying the !DAZ folder into the default runtime means Poser will find it. (You can still have the M4 figure and his stuff in an external runtime.)
Michael 5 does not work in Poser directly. Whatever you did with Michael 5 probably does not apply to Michael 4.
It is normal for Hiro 4 to be a separate figure.
Some things to keep in mind:
The body and head morphs are generally applied separately. So setting the realistic morph to 1 in the body will not affect the face. You need to select the head, and use the realistic dial there.
Some of the morphs aren't meant to be used together. The realistic head morph will look terrible if you combine it with the Hiro morph at full strength. Set the Hiro morph to 0, and the realistic morph will look like it's supposed to. (You can combine the head morphs at partial strength with good results.)

Very nice! What dress is that?
I've been picking up some cheap A3 stuff from DAZ this week. Different stuff every day, at 80% off, plus additional discounts. They really don't make clothing like they used to. Maybe because so much is dForce/dynamic now. It just seems the legacy stuff is a lot more ornate.
Thread: Poser Update 13.1.469 Released | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, I understand how it's supposed to work. The results just never look the same for me as in the tutorials. I'm guessing I'm using the wrong lighting or textures.

I'm still using 11 on a Mac that's too old for 13, but I'm curious about this: "Improvements to Comic Book Preview Draw Last feature". Can you say more? My impression had been that Comic Book Preview works in 12 and 13 pretty much as it does in 11.
That sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out. I have Poser 13, but still mostly use Poser 11.

IME, that's only practical if you're doing it item by item. If he has a bunch of stuff he's bought in the past, it will be a pain, at least if he wants to install different items into separate runtimes.Let it unpack in the purchases folder. Check it there, change as you like and then move to wherever you want it to go.
Also, just in case...the automatic installation only works for purchases from Renderosity. It won't work for things bought from DAZ or other stores, or for freebies.
I guess they're trying to make it easy, but Bondware's Poser doesn't support multiple runtimes as well as I'd like. I hate the Purchases folder. I also dislike the way LaFemme items are organized. It seems meant for someone using only one runtime. Which I haven't done since Poser 5.

I don't think Poser 9 was any different when it came to runtimes. You should be able to just attach your old Poser 9 runtimes to Poser 13.
I think you'll have to install content the old fashioned way if you want to put them in custom locations. Unzip the files to the location you want. If you let Poser do it automatically, it puts everything in the Purchases folder. Or the default tolder (set during installation), if you're talking about included content.
If you want to put the included content in custom runtimes, you can download the zip files from the Poser Software site, and unzip them to the locations you want.
Thread: To rig or parent? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As an end user, I think rigging it would be much simpler. Parenting stuff sounds like it might be confusing and complicating.
Could you make it a morphing prop?

I don't buy a lot of clothing textures any more. I'd rather make my own.
I love some of the really elaborate clothing textures sold in the RMP, that are way beyond my skills or patience, but they tend to be so distinctive, I feel like it's not my art when I use them.
Character textures are another story. Those aren't easy to make or convert. I remember there used to be texture converting software, so you could use, say, V2 textures on V3, but I don't know if anyone does that kind of thing any more.
Then there's that software that will basically clone a character from one figure to another. I'm curious about it, but it's crazy expensive, and the results would be for personal use only.
