Thats all that B6 will have done to it after all this time? I think I will have to try something else thats more up to date for todays computers... I will still use Bryce for other projects though.
Thread: Want to see Bryce survive all other newer programs? | Forum: Bryce
@Ganthor/Crazy Dawg,ya welcome :). I am by no means an expert at Bryce, but since I picked it up in Nov. 2005 I have done more projetcs and created more land scapes than the other 4 way more expensive programs Ive bought. Look how many projects get done by new users and advanced ones alike, in very little time frames. I hope soon to be uploading some of my pics but I keep tweaking them so much (having fun here) I dont know when they be done to my liking ;-) @AS: yes Bryce could use some more content for realism but IMO they should concentrate on better manuals and interfaces that dont force you in to places you have to backtrack out of(ie. random materials etc. in DTE). I found the content, Bryce 5.5 had, when I bought it to be fine, but I had to dig deep to find out how they did em(not to metion SECRET short cut keys anyone). B6 is close and should improve on these I hope. o_o

Talk to anyone in 3d and they know about or have used Bryce. This is great, but now they say I wish it had insert feature here and start talking about the big name exepensive apps. Im not sure whether Bryce is an introductory 3d program or something more, but unless your already in a 3d career, Bryce is a good stepping stone without the learning curve. As for intergration with Daz/Studio I think more power to Bryce, as long as it doesn't interfere with it in a way that it changes it for worse. Ganthor, my version(Bryce 5.5c) bought off the shelf at a local comp store(in DVD case)installs files, I believe, for Studio, but you have the choice to hit that button on the interface or not. You could run Bryce and never see Studio(except for the button :).
Thread: advice on processor for Bryce & 3D rendering? | Forum: Bryce
If the Laptop can do todays games at min. requirements then it should be ok for most graphic apps. As for PC processor Id stick to AMD(IMO). But MAKE SURE, Intel or AMD, that the processor is NOT cut in cache size or power(ie. AMD sempron and Intel Celeron etc..)or your 3d apps will suffer badly. Laptops are expensive to buy, fix, upgrade(vs desktop) and Id hate to lose 100 hrs worth of work over heat issues or droping laptop on ground etc...so yes it is kind of a bad idea for laptops and graphic intense work... And yes I had to buy a mouse for a laptop too because the touchpad wasnt good enough. Just my 2 pennies worth. :)
Thread: Oh cruel world, wherefore Bryce?.... | Forum: Bryce
Yep,great for Vue,but I too still like simplicity of Bryce(cant go wrong with price of it either). Looking through one of bryces .dll files I saw a Bryce6 folder, hope they get 6 out soon. Maybe ILM will change their mind and switch(ok maybe not). :-)
Thread: Quickie Sci-Fi Helmet...outta Metaballs | Forum: Bryce
Thats the helmet I need too, when banging my head against wall doing 3d..j/k.. anywho,AS is that 100% meta or am I not getting negative metaball(shift/meta icon not working here) or grouping them and getting shadowed lines when I intersect? Nice WIP btw...
Thread: How's your render time...just for fun :) | Forum: Bryce
Yep, just installed new OS (x64), which I did a ton of research on, and knew what I was getting into. Soon as I fired up bryce with my custom bench *.br5 file (which always takes 25sec.) it took 30sec. It shows up as emulated (*32 or something). Now knowing a little more bout bryce, unless you are doing VERY heavy renders, it will only use 50 to 80 cpu time. Again, running an app in background(or that heavy render) will result in 94 to 99 cpu time, a good savings. This post was to see and give people here using this program some insight to rendering faster with or without buying new hardware. As I didnt see posts here about time and bryce rendering, I did forum search for desmonema.br5 which came with my 5.5 that most should have to compare. I also now only have 15 max process run in background. Lots who spent time and money on their rigs should be obsessive bout the system as you could only get more enjoyment out of a faster system(and should I say stable system too:).

Hi AS. Yes my wow64 emulation did hurt me didnt it :). Also NF3, ECSboard, 400ddr (XPpro x64) non-OC.
Thread: New tech = not so fast Bryce | Forum: Bryce
Probably before they pump out any more power hungry cpu, boards, software bloat, they should optimize apps to take advantage of intsructions we have now. I mean even a 1 ghz cpu can almost double program speed if instructions were utilised. Anyone remeber stuff like AMD K6 and quake 2. That was an eye opener. Instead we are overclocking to get the same results code could easy achieve.x64 will run 32 bit apps fine but being 64bit the optimisations will get turned off to run in WOW64 and thus slower programs.Hope this isnt the case with Vista. But when/if Bryce might get a 100% increase in 64/dual cpu, look what they did with 5.5, 30% increase from earlier versions(most cases). So if we cant get that $$ new cpu aleast we can sit back and see what Daz does with ver 6.
Thread: New tech = not so fast Bryce | Forum: Bryce
Did someone say 64 bit? ;-) Bryce crys out for that, but as far as my tech upgrades went Im very happy with Bryce on my rig.64 3200+(512cache)crushed my old 32 2800+ semp(256cache) comp. And I was scared to even think of getting Bryce because of all the people who said they would render for days cause it was slow. When I got it (first ver I got was 5.5 soooo..) I was amazed at how fast it was. Been a happy Brycer since. Wonder what the new stuff will take the MOST advantage of, 64bit compile or dual cpu threading? As for dual cpu I never saw those take off back in the day , why now besides being affordable?
Thread: wheres the love?(64 bit apps)... | Forum: Bryce
Yes sir , the combo deals are very hard to pass up. Fry,s is about 1 and half mi. from me and every time I walk in I see another deal I should have got :). I try now also to get Nvidia boards as they seem to be a little faster IMO from the Via boards Ive always had. Drivers maybe?( btw.. Im not brand loyal, just get the fastest I can afford)
Thread: wheres the love?(64 bit apps)... | Forum: Bryce
Yes, 64 bit should become popular with the release of Vista. I hope it doesnt slow things down with being to heavy needing monster CPU, GPU power. I see a pattern here, ..new OS...new computer hardware..rinse and repeat. Guess thats the way tech is. I too have always built my own computers (been that way since opening my first Atari box to put in new CPU). Just havent seen this amount of tech avalible and lots of people have it, just no support in apps, games. Like AS said, its hard not to find 64 boards, combos and such, and all my friends have had this tech for awhile now(Apple or PC).Long story short, just sounds like an average family car(32bit OS) with a Ferrari engine(64 bit cpu).
Thread: wheres the love?(64 bit apps)... | Forum: Bryce
Thanks for replys. Its gonna be real nice when 3d goes all 64 bit, and fast too.I just wanted to add, is the reason that its not mainstream yet an OS issue, or developer, or do they totally have to rewrite the software?. IMO ,if it is a rewrite then we wont see apps doing 64bit for a few years as the user base for XP 32 is wide in use for these and $$ doesn't go cheap for those companys to rewrite. I think a port of software from 32 to 64 doesnt work or something or they would be putting it out quicker. MS is being cryptic with there Vista. With all the $$ Ive put into my upgrades I could have bought Softimage XSI. I forgot to even check their site for 64 bit stuff. Aahh, to much I want not enough money :>(. Im done upgrading for now, guess Ill have to wait and just work on improving my Bryce skills :).
Thread: Yet another computer system we would all love to have | Forum: Bryce
OK!..-->>gets out his credit card<< ..oh wait, Im already having trouble remembering to eat and sleep, women and ...you get the picture. Thats a wild comp there, maybe with that I could finally do my 3hr SiFi movie I've always wanted to do. >>credit card goes back into hiding<< ;-)
Thread: CPU usage and Bryce | Forum: Bryce
Yes I believe, madmax you are correct, Daz, or somewhere I read, Bryce does this for that purpose, to free some room for programs to be run on the side. My bad I forgot to mention that I have 2 computers, 1 for render, 1 for internet and such. And that dedicated comp I wanted to be at 100% or close then just leave it and switch to other comp (maybe dual CPU time for me, that would work too if I had the $$:). As for the OS , yes there are differences as I used to have 2000pro (SP4) as well Agent Smith(it was an upgrade). Are systems probably run very close, but I noticed XP was far more responsive than 2000 IMHO. Im much happier w/XP and have only 16 processes running total in services.I guess I got critical ON these issues ever since I go to friends houses and see their superior systems running like a dog. I use very minor tweaks anyone can do and use Fix-It-Utilities to speed up my cleaning house. I hope my trip down Bryce road leads to people as helpful as you all have been and sites like this. Thanks again.
