I'm fairly new to Poser, and even though I didn't pay the full price for it (computer show), I have to say it is the first piece of software that has given me the ability to create what I really wanted to, namely humans. I tried for hours to get a figure in Max to be posable, but had nothing but headaches. Perhaps character studio would have been easier, but it still costs a lot more, and buying even one figure for it would cost a fortune. Poser is not overpriced, but there was one thing said that I do agree with, and that is that if one of the other companies does put out a rival product, and does it better, for about the same cost, then CL may have some problems. And in today's world, creating human characters is more and more an appealing thing. Just look at some of the movies coming out..."Final Fantasy" anyone? CL may eventually have some competition. The main thing that I would love to see in the next version of poser, or as a supplement to the current one, is a higher resolution model. I find the current poser characters to not have enough polygons. This is really evident in areas that, at least on this site's gallery, are used quite often, like the female's chest area. As for the joints, I would really like it if they found a way to make them more realistic. I hate those glitches in the mesh on extreme poses (like kneeling). Anyway, just my ramblings...hope it all makes sense. Dragontales

Thanks all, I'm making sure to try and get most of these. It never stops amazing me that the best stuff doesn't even come from the basic poser program. Dragontales. (thanks again :) )

Here's my two cents on cracked stuff. I have seen a version of max that has what is called a cracked dongle. Basically what it does, is fool the security program that max comes with into thinking there is a dongle on the computer. In fact, you can't even use the cracked dongle version without installing the security program (in this case, Sentinal). It is only a matter of time before something similar is found to circumvent this new way of doing things. In fact, in the end, I'd bet that legit users of PPP or Poser 5, resort to some of these methods of hacking, if only to prevent any headaches that arise from this new security. Dragontales

Ok, after reading the long.....line of messages, I basically have a couple questions regarding this issue. Perhaps they were answered above, but...well, call me stupid. 1. Each machine I install it on, will need a new unlock code, right? 2. Do I need to reconnect and get a new lock code if I reinstall the software on the same computer, or is there a place where you type in the original lock code? 3. If there is a place for the original lock code, what prevents me from using that same lock code on the other machine? 4. Is it mandatory to register my program with CL to use the new software? Thread: How can i create skin map? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Not sure about where to find the tutorials, but any good image editing program can do this with ease. The best way that I know of to start off with, is to take an existing skin and edit that one in a paint program. Otherwise, load up the templates that poser comes with and then, using a paint program, paint one from scratch, basically following the template lines. (have I confused you more? lol.) Good Luck Dragontales

If I'm not mistaken, you can turn off nudity in the gallery options of the member options page. I have no problem with nudity and worship the female form in all its glory. However I do notice a trend for really good artwork to not get the attention it deserves. I'm not really sure why this is, but to be honest, people are going to click on whatever it is that interests them, and although I hear many complaints about big boobs, sex, and the like, it is what gets the most attention. The people have spoken. I think the key to getting more hits for a non-sex/nudity pic is in the thumbnail. I've been watching which ones get more hits than others, and many times, the thumbnail doesn't portray the beauty of the picture it links to. Finding that perfect thumbnail isn't easy, but after some efforts and retry's you should come to find one that makes you say "If I were surfing, I'd click on that." Dragontales

I agree that if they do the above, then they may as well kiss their business goodbye. People will do "reasonable" things to use a program, but jumping through hoops everytime something changes is not one of them. I have always said that the people who use illegal copies of programs really don't ever use them for anything worthwhile anyway. Usually it's just a trophy to say that they have it. Learning a program like Poser, lightwave, max, and many others takes an enormous amount of time and energy. These individuals don't "usually" invest that kind of effort into learning what they steal. In the end, would they buy that product if it wasn't able to be copied? I don't think so. As was said above, That's my two cents. I know people from Curious Labs monitor this page, do they have anything to say on this whole matter? Dragontales

Essentially, just by using poser, and it's clothes and props, you are already using meshes.

as wolf stated, they come in all kinds of formats. Think of these formats the same way images have different formats for different programs, such as gif, jpeg, tiff, PSD, PSP, etc. Essentially every object in a 3d program, whether it be figure, prop, whatever, is a mesh. How you export it or import it is when filetype comes into play. 3DS is native to studio max, obj started out from wavefront, etc. These days most of these are interchangeable with conveters and such within programs like Poser and without.

As far as the translash is concerned, if you'd like to get an idea of how to create one, try downloading the one available at digital babes. You can find the link in the column on the right under "web ring top 15". It's basically a grayscale image that tells the program what parts to keep solid, and which to make transparent. The way to use it is to apply this transmap texture to the transparency material slot in poser. Then use the transparency sliders to get the effect you want. The poser book the program comes with should have more on transparency. Not sure about the .cr2 files...haven't made any myself yet. Good Luck. Dragontales

A mesh is basically the geometry of the model you are using. In the case of poser, it is the figure that you are manipulating. If you change the view you are using to wireframe (verses shaded), you can basically see why they call it mesh. Looks like a big net shaped to look like something. As for using them, that depends on what you are doing with them. Dragontales

Why does this whole conversation remind me of that doctor suess book where this big machine goes and chops down all the puffy trees, leaving the world barren and lifeless. Dragontales
