Ok, here's my penny's worth; likes and dislikes of the gallery /site changes.
Likes: I do like the general look of the main gallery pages. I think the white background is ok. I'm glad to see the upload date has returned, rather than how many hours ago it was uploaded.
Dislikes:
Homepage and contact - when clicking on the artist's name you don't go to the Homepage anymore - we see the gallery and stats. It was better before - you could see the link to contact the artist or the gallery link if that's what you needed, together with their bio etc. Everything in once place was easier and quicker to navigate.
Having to zoom in on an image to see at correct size - it was better before when you just had to click the thumbnail preview in the main gallery to link to the full size. When time and effort have been spent creating the image I want people to be able to see it as it was intended. I would be interested to see how many people bother to zoom in - too many clicks to get to an image as it is intended - why?
Avatar space - is it really necessary to have these all over the place - it's ok in forums but why at the top of the image?
Comment space - I preferred the comment layout we had before - it was nice and quick to read ( again, why do we really need avatar space here? ) .
Stats, stats, stats - why do we need to see how many images the artist has and when the last one was uploaded. Generally, too many stats - have members really requested all this info? Too much information for just wanting to view or show an image in my mind. Maybe that should just be on the artist's homepage or something.
I know the Rendro team must have put alot of work into doing all this, and I know sometimes it takes a while to get use to change, but I really can't see the benefit of some of the changes. Can anyone enlighten me? If I have got any info wrong above, please someone set me straight.
Having said all that, I do still love this site and the community and appreciate the fact that the site is free. I feel though that the overall look is not as inviting as before, and I really hope that that does not deter others from joining or put current members off - that would be a shame. That was what set the site apart from some of the other large art sites that I have been too. If I would have just come across the site now, I wonder if I would have taken much notice of it or been very tempted to join.
I do hope the admins take some note of the complaints about the galleries from members, and maybe one or two changes could be made.

I totally agree - it was much better when you just had the tumbnail in the general gallery to click on and that took you to the full size image. When alot of time and effort has been spent creating and image one wants it to be seen at it's best. Is there any way the Rendro team could change this?
Thread: Anyone bought GeoControl? | Forum: Bryce
skiwillgee - I've sorted out the problem I posted above. I was moving the wrong slider when the terrain is in Bryce. Thanks for the tip though

I've bought it and it's great. Creating the terrains is soooo much easier than in Bryce and they import just fine. Brilliant piece of software in my opinion. Very user friendly and easy to learn.
Thread: Renderosity is starting to confuse me. | Forum: Community Center
Yes, as karen suggests, re-set your profile.
Do remember also that just because you haven't got alot of comments doesn't mean that nobody likes what you do. Yeah, it can make you wonder if maybe the image is just crap, (i think we've all been there at some time or other) , but you may get alot of views but people don't always have the time to comment, or may not be able to put into words their feelings/reactions/ideas and so don't bother. It can be a bit off putting when you see, as you said, the big breasted, naked women images getting loads of credit, and you feel you've done something more meaningful which you'd like others to view. (human nature eh? a bit of bare skin and the crowds come running...lol) It doesn't mean your art is not good enough/valid. Do what you truly want to do and be proud of that. That's the most important thing I think. There are some outstanding images on this site, both in concept and technical skill, and not all of those get loads of comments or votes. And if it helps, remember alot of great artists in history were not that well thought of in their day!
I know it's clliche, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Right, I'll stop ranting now and get some coffee.....

Thank you so much! I know it can be frustrating and difficult when you first try a program (been there, done that, got the t-shirt..;)).And this is beautiful! Thanks for posting it here, I might not have come across it for a while otherwise.
If you have any more questions any time, don't hesitate to post them in the forum, or you can IM me via the site mail any time. I'm no expert, but I have a fair idea of Bryce so I'll help with what I can.

Right, I think I understand what you mean. In the Mat Lab click on the little arrow which is under the bottom right of the preview window, then select 'Actual selection' and the image will change to whatever you have selected in your scene. You don't need to worry too much if you have a different shape in this screen, whatever is selected in the actual scene will have the material you choose applied to it. Your terrain won't change to a sphere or something if that is showing. You can also change the way the material is applied to the object by selecting the little arrow next to 'Object Space' (top right in Mat Lab screen). If you try, for example, 'parametric' or 'spherical', or any of the others from the drop-down list, you will see the material applied differently. Try experimenting. Look forward to seeing your finished image posted here

Hi
I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If the material is selected in the Mat Lab, and you can see it in the little preview screen in there, when you click the check sign it should go on to your terrain. The only way I can think of that it would appear that it hasn't is if you have selected 'smooth shaded' for your viewport models (found in the drop-down list you get if you click the little wireframe cube on the right hand side of the main screen). Make sure only your main render button is clicked to render, not any of the other four, two either side, buttons (which will appear red/blue if you have). Whatever the shape of the terrain is, that won't change no matter what texture you apply to it, unless you scale/transform it of course. Does that help?

You're most welcome. You can adjust the sun in the main viewport - it's the black ball to the far right of the top of the screen (just click on it to move it around) or you can adjust it in the Sky Lab (click the words Sky & Fog at the top of the screen then click on the little white cloud with the rainbow). The other lights are also located at the top - click on 'Create' and you should see a bunch of shapes, some in blue, some in yellow. The blue ones are primitives - cube, sphere etc.- and the yellow shapes are the lights. Just click on one and it will appear in the viewport. If it is selected in the viewport you should see a vertical list of letters to it's side, one of which is 'E'. Click on that and you will be taken to an editing screen (the Light Lab) where you can change the light in different ways. I would suggest you try the Robin Wood tutorials first. They are excellent as they start from complete basics such as finding your way around the main screen to the exciting stuff like texturing and making simple models/shapes. Don't forget there is a manual you can download for Bryce 5.5 from Daz3d.com too.
Have fun

Thread: PEOPLE IN YUR SCENES...WITHOUT POSER INBREEDING??? | Forum: Bryce
Quote - You can make a "People Prop". Take a photograph of a person or persons and place it in a 2D picture object ("Leo") and use an alpha channel mask to get rid of "non-people parts".
Forgot to ask about this in my previous post - can anyone direct me to a tutorial on this -( I don't know much about alpha channels, but I do have Photoshop if that is relevant) or give me a quick rundown of the process?
Thread: PEOPLE IN YUR SCENES...WITHOUT POSER INBREEDING??? | Forum: Bryce
Quote - I NEEDS PEEPLZZZZZ!!!
I have HER and HIM and the victoria and micheal and the STUDIO. I just dont have enough clothes for them AND I'm having problems parenting things to figures in studio (maybe because I have a prehistoric computer that runs studio but for some reason - maybe the open GL issue - can't render with it.
ANYWHO - the Bryce man seems like a kinda good idea, although he does look kinda fakey (impressive - but "cartoonish") - still, you can't beat the price (FREE!!!)
I wish that you could pose figures in BRYCE - but I guess that I can prepose free DAZ figs and import them in (export them as object meshes, then import them into Bryce and save them as .OBP's - although texturing them correctly might be an imperial pain in the royal Bengalis.
I need to do more research on texturing DAZ / POSER figures WITHIN Bryce obviously.
If you get yourself the latest versions of Bryce (5.5) and Daz Studio (still free) you can import anything from D|S with all the textures already applied , via the D|S link in Bryce. No more fiddling around applying textures. Bryce doesn't seem to like it if you have too many objects in the scene though, so frequent saving is strongly advised as it does like to crash on you.
Thread: Apo is taking over the world | Forum: Fractals
These sort of topics are always interesting because they stir up the opinions/emotions.
Well I'm going be boring but, in my opinion it doesn't matter two jots what program you use. I reckon the market for bought fractal programs will continue, as long as the designers keep up their standards and developing. I agree with SimonKane :the average person out there won't know how you've created your art, or anything about the program. They'll initially judge it on whether they like it or not. In the end what will distinguish one artist from another is the quality of their work. Yes, apo can seem boring sometimes, and you can create and image with the click of a button, but it really isn't that easy to create something breathtaking with it - as with any program it's what you do with it, and the skill you develop with it, not which program it is. There are outstanding examples in the galleries made with different programs, and equally not so interesting images too. Ultimately the most important thing is that you get enjoyment from whatever art you are creating, and are creating what pleases yourself.
Off for a nice cuppa now..
Thread: The very, very basics of Bryce 5.5... | Forum: Bryce
If you've never used Bryce before the best tutorials I have come across are these
http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/BryceTuts/BryceTutSet.html
They start from basics and progress step-by-step. They are very easy to follow, and I have found them invaluable.
Another good one for beginners is

When you're more familiar with the program you might like to check out this link which has a large list of tutorial links, very varied. Haven't checked them all out myself, but you may find something interesting

Don't forget also that you can ask for help/advice here at the forums too. Happy Brycing
