I'm curious about this too. I know that I've occasionally gone back to an image that I'd forgotten I'd already voted on and hitting the vote button got an error message that I'd already voted. But I know that I've voted for more than one image in a day and didn't get any message, so I assume that you can vote more than once. I'd like to know, because after voting for something, I've come across something that I really felt merited a vote and didn't vote cos I didn't know if I could. If anyone knows for sure, I'd like to know.
Thread: Renderosity time-outs and errors | Forum: Community Center
I've been getting timeout errors and unresolved host errors all night, and not just on this site. Maybe Renderosity is having a problem with their server, but have you checked your system for trojans and spyware? I can't get rid of them, as soon as I clean and get back on the net, I get a new trojan warning and find my system littered with spyware. I've downloaded two spyware programs and been infected with more junk with each one of them, so be careful. Switching from Norton to EZ Antivirus was one of the worst mistake I've ever made. Be warned!

Thanks, mrsparky, I'll give it a try. I run EZ Antivirus, and it doesn't seem to be up to the job.
Thread: how do i delete or change my username? | Forum: Community Center
Thanks, karen. My memory's not what it used to be. It's just that I used to post here a couple of years ago under "Angelfire13". When I switched from netzero to peoplepc, I couldn't post to my old gallery. I would get an error message saying something to the effect that that username and password did not match my email. I'm sorry that I don't remember the specifics, but I do know that I had to change to Angelfire999 because since Angelfire@ netzero no longer existed, the username associated with it couldn't be used. Like I said, that's been 2 or 3 years ago, so maybe it's changed and it doesn't matter what email address you have as long as you remember your username and password. Or maybe I forgot my password and couldn't have it emailed to me because the password could only be mailed to the old email address. Thanks for taking the time to deal with a senior citizen. Ouch!

Sorry, I still don't get it. How can you log in with your old email when you no longer have it. When you change ISPs you change email accounts. If you were angelfire@aol.com, you're now angelfire@netzero.com, or whatever. When you try to log in, you get a message saying your username and password don't match your email address. I'm pretty happy with my present ISP, but if I should change sometime in the future, I'd like to still keep my present account here.

So, is there a way to access your old username when you change ISPs? When I switched, I no longer had access to my gallery or username, so I had to choose a new name and start a new gallery. Isn't there some way that this could be avoided?
Thread: which is the main detail for 3d graphics RAM or CPU? | Forum: Community Center
I've always preferred AMD to Intel for graphics, although the computer I'm using now came with an Intel P4 and I can't see any difference in speed on graphic programs. Depending on which programs you're using, the amount of RAM will probably make more difference than whether you use an AMD or Intel. If you've got Photoshop, you already know it's a memory hog and so are all of the render/modeling software packages I've used, though I still think Photoshop is the worst in pigging out on your RAM. I run Photoshop at the same time I run Poser and at 1 GB RAM, I'm still having to close and reopen both programs frequently. If you've got something like Max3d and Painter open at the same time, you can forget it. If you can afford it, spring for 2 GB RAM.
Thread: Google knows where you live | Forum: Community Center
It's not just your name and address. When I typed in my number I was redirected to the harvester's home page which offered to provide the names and phone numbers of all my neighbors, relatives, and "known associates" - I suppose they mean friends, though how the heck they could know who my friends are I can't begin to imagine. All of this was available for a fee along with all types of personal background information. I can't believe that this is legal! Well, at least I know now where the phone company that's trying to slam me is getting it's info. I find this scary as heck!

I think a critique forum and gallery is an excellent idea. I love the idea of being able to post something, particularly something I'm having problems with or am simply not satisfied with and getting tips and critiques from others. The problem with the way things are now is that some people don't know how to offer constructive criticism - if it's nasty or blatantly tackless, it ain't constructive - and some aren't interested in being constructive, they simply want to trash artists who get more comments than they feel they deserve. As for the "pro" gallery, I don't think it would work. How do you compare a portrait to a pinup to a fantasy piece to concept work, etc. Maybe if you had separate categories with recognized artists in those categories, it might work; I don't know. I'm from Memphis, TN and the prejudice against digital art of any kind here is unbelievable. A lot of people simply don't consider digital art to be "real art"; and I'm not just talking about those of us who post to the web, but also recognized, published artists. So, I'd be somewhat skeptical of "mainstream" artists as judges.

Yeah, I get um too, sometimes several doubles at a time. I thought it was simply my ISP screwing up.

Thanks everybody for taking the time to explain a complicated subject. And thanks, hauksdottir, for the link; it gave me a headache, but it did answer a lot of questions. "smile" By the way music copyright law 101 was the course I took. But it was simply an elective for music students. There was a whole major field of study, so my course didn't even began to scratch the surface. I do remember that there was a court case concerning the sampling issue. I still don't understand the rationale behind the findings on that case. I remember thinking at the start of the case that it would be over in a couple of days with "sampling rights" losing hands down. As it was the case dragged on, I believe, for over a year, and the samplers won. I'm still curious about that. Might go over to the Copyright Forum and ask. But if these people talk like lawyers, I'm sure I won't stay there long! lol Thanks again.

Thanks, stargategeek. I admit, I'm not an expert on copyright law. I took a class in it back in my school days, which was a long time ago! Must have known enough of it then to pass the class. But that's beside the point. Please, don't anyone think that I'm being snide or sarcastic, because I'm not. But, what's the difference between what stargate is doing and sampling records, which is legal and not considered an infringement against the original artist's copyright?
Thread: why pixelated? | Forum: Community Center
Please forgive my ignorance, but since so many people seem to be so steamed up about this, I'm curious. What, exactly is "fan art" and how is it an infringement on anyone's copyright? I'm totally in the dark here.

I'm glad you solved your problem. I've been having the same one and I don't seem able to get it licked. Tried changing all my thumbs to "...thumb.jpg. It didn't work. As for updating my browser, I've got IE 6.0.2900.etc, etc. The only way I can get my stuff up is to upload everything but the thumbnail, then go back to "edit" and then upload the thumb. If anybody can figure out why or has some tips, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks.
