Sorry Tim, but as of now I'm from Missouri, the "Show Me" state.@Y-Phil & @TwiztidKidd - good points. To be fair, we had a bit of heavy lift with the site updates & Poser 13 release rolling out around the same time.
We do have plans to make the advertising system more targeted. Stay tuned.

As long as we're skipping down memory lane, I remember when DAZ actually gave away a few of their figures, like Aiko, in a magazine, like Computer 3D. I don't know if Computer 3D even exists anymore, but the idea is still sound. You don't want to give Poser away for free, fine, make the figures free instead. But you have to promote the heck out of it.

Granted, and you'll get no argument from me, but Debut would still seem to be something of a waste of time as you would still have to pay SOMETHING and get a crippled version, while DS is free. At this point I still maintain that Poser's salvation lies in putting out a better product and Renderosity pushing it's own figures and props AS HARD AS or at least EQUAL to DAZ's own products.I don't recall it ever being free. Lowest I can remember was around $25 to $50.
Clearly it would be a stripped down version of the full current Poser, (which is what debut started out as), with the same UI consisting primarily of a pose room, library and render engine for users to use the content they purchase.
Anyway, like I said it's just my opinion.
Hard to compete when the competition is free.

Honestly, the idea of Poser Debut, in and of itself, made no sense to me either. If I recall, Debut was somewhat crippled, and to do anything meaniful you had to buy a full version anyway.

You know that argument never made any sense to me anyway. Only the object file had to be in a T pose and that was for the way the clothes draped. But you don't use the object file in the Walk Designer.nerd posted at 7:42 PM Sun, 26 March 2023 - #4459658
Does this mean that Poser figures no longer require a default T-pose to work correctly?A walk designer can be created for any biped. You need a basic walk and as many blend styles are you want to create. I'll do at least a white paper on creating walk designers and probably an actual tutorial. There are several pieces that need to be in the right place for it to work.
The big change for P13 is that each supported figure is kept separate from all the rest of the figures. That was holding back the variety of figures we could support. Mostly because all the figures had to use the same basic walk. Now every supported figure gets own base walk and blends.
Does this mean non-bipedal figures an work. Probably. I haven't had time to actually try but it seems like it would work.
Way back in P9/2012 one of the devs said that the T-pose was required in order to work properly with walk designer, and that was essentially the only reason Poser figures were still built that way (since 99% of all other apps abandoned the T-pose for a more natural A-pose long ago).

I certainly hope you'll do the tutorial Nerd.

Quick question: can a walk designer map be created for any figure?
Also, five more days till P 13.

Okay, I read the article that AmbientShade linked to and it leaves me a little concerned. Granted, I don't used animation much, but according to the article: This means each figure will have its own Walk Designer and Talk Designer libraries, meaning that every time you use either module on a Poser figure, you will get amazing results from start.
That got me wondering, what exactly constitutes a "Poser" figure in this day and age? Will the Walk or Talk Designer work on Hivewire figures? Or DAZ figures? Or Just figures that are included with Poser?

Has there been an announcement of any delay? As I write this March only has another 12 days.

I should have listened to my own advice, but maybe you could buy a used computer that's not as old as the one you have now Sam.

Technically, I'm not really using Poser right now, although I do have a poser 12 beta version downloaded on my computer. My last bought and paid for Poser was Poser 11, but my last computer crashed, and I really don't have much of my old stuff on this computer yet.

Basic wardrobe? Let's skip the underwear although she will need it too. How about a skirt, pair of pants, blouse, or shirt, and maybe a pair of shorts. Flats and a pair of heels just to start?
I'd also like to reiterate a catalog set up like my content directory that would make shopping for stuff a lot easier.

You are right about that, EClark.
Rosity does need subcontract with vendors, so that whatever figure flops out the door with the release of Poser 13 at least gets basics.
I won't argue with the quality of Ken's work, but at best it is only a stopgap move. I'll say it again because it bears repeating, Renderosity needs to commission a stable of vendors to make clothes and props for it's Poser figures. The vendors will be paid for their work upfront, and Renderosity will have content for it's Poser figures ready to go.The good news is that Ken1171's scripts are really good at moving DS content into Poser.

With what? At this point the only thing Poser has going for it is the easy to use interface. It has very little compelling content*, it doesn't bridge easily to *anything* any more as near as I can tell (and if it does, bondware can't be bothered to write any decent tutorials on how), its export tools are abysmal, and of its render engines, one dates back 6 or 7 versions at least and the other is a sorta-implemented version of another developer's. (Though the new surface implementation in P12 was at least a step in the right direction.)
More and more I see less reasons to use it stand alone, and no reason to use it in any kind of pipeline.
Lot of people don't want to hear that, but it's the truth as I see it. I love Poser, been a user since P4, bought every version from P7 to P11 though probably could have stayed with 2014.
Need I remind you that Poser was already a going concern when Studio came along? True, you may have to actually dump some features that work now, but only for the moment. Poser is a hodge podge of tech that other companies created. Poser\s biggest flaw at the moment is that it wants to keep using this tech that no one is currently developing, and as a result Poser falls further and further behind. If you're going to license tech, at least license tech that's still being developed and worked on.
Get a stable of Renderosity artists together to create content for you, figures, clothes, props, even shaders and arrange it all in a catalog so it's easy to look up and find. Right now, Renderosity is just a collection of stores by different artists, who are making what sells best for them. Also, push the Poser stuff... hard. It's okay to sell stuff for Studio, but it's not and shouldn't be your bread and butter. If Renderosity doesn't believe in Poser, why should anyone else?
