That's my setup!
I must say I have the feeling the Mac OSX 10.5.8 I run is slightly worse for circumstances as the Mac OSX 10.4 I use at work. Rendering will easily stop when trying to do other things, and typing in words/numbers seem to go slow. Somehow it seems like the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 does not play well either, but I am not sure what kind of card is at the work computer.
In short, it runs better at work. But rendering without tyring to do other things seems to work okay.
I do want an Intel machine...
Thread: Is this even possible with C6?? | Forum: Carrara
The first thing you ask is called 'soft body dynamics', which is not in Carrara for now (it is in Poser since version 5 I think, so I do use it from there sometimes, export as obj and import in Carrara).
The second thing is 'hard body dynamics or physics', that is in Carrara. Look it up in the help files as 'physics'. Does work actually, but you need to know and try to figure it out.

Looking very impressive indeed. It would be hard to resist not to buy (I only started to use Vue this week, so I am stumbling around in wonder in the program - manual arrives today).
Thread: Saving time question | Forum: Carrara
Sometimes I find myself using files that insist on includinng a preview. That is a great way to greatly extend the saving time as well.
Thread: TV studio props anywhere? | Forum: Carrara
Recently I found this great search engine for 3D models:
http://www.3dfilter.com/search/tv%20camera/0
Especially if you can convert SketchUp models there is lots of choice.
(not sure if the free version has export function)

Okay. Tested it. It definitely picks up where it stopped rendering on a still image. Really. Try it :)

I have to check, but I actually remember batch que pausing works for still images as well.
goes checking

Looks very very cool. I use the same combination of apps for fast previewing of things whenever it is needed. Works like a charm indeed.

Thread: Glass shader | Forum: Carrara
The example from Darcal is probably mainly too much of a good thing. The refraction I guess. Try lower numbers or use 'index of refraction' and choose something like common glass.
Good luck!
Thread: Glass shader | Forum: Carrara
This sounds like the refraction going wild. Also, know that it is important to have something to reflect in the glass. The recent versions of Carrara 7 still have the old presents, so the more advanced options of the shader tree are missing. Look for the shading options like 'reflection' and 'index of refraction' and use options like fresnel effect.
Also, you can look for free shaders and tutorials for this. Glass is hard to get right. There are even expansion packs (shoestringshaders) that add factors that are not in the standard shader tree.
Thread: DCG Wireframe Pro in action | Forum: Carrara
Here is one I did with ToonPro, NPR renderer, VectorStyle, differen renders, some version that went through Synthetik's Studio Artist, all stacked in photoshop, where I also added some splashes and swirls...
It is an image for a magazine from Fiat, inspired by the words 'Italy' and 'Green'. Done in a very short time, so I used some content that comes with Carrara and some online models.

It looks like there is Toon Pro in it too? Or is that all done with Wireframe Pro? Looks very cool!
Thread: Mask renders in Carrara | Forum: Carrara
The method I use that has some advantages, but still needs a seperate document/version of the model, is to use Digital Carvers Guild's Shaders Plus, that offers the 'flat' and 'mask' shader.
That shading model creates flat renders, so it is easy to shade the whole scene black and the parts you want masked white. You can more or less use drag and drop on scene elements, or in the tray. It is a bit easier than making elements invisible (especially if it concerns shading domains or parts of models).
Good luck!
