Good to know, Lobo. I just picked up a couple of very cheap addons on Blender Marketplace, but yeah, they're for 2.93, so they might be broken. In Linux, I'm running 3.1: don't think I've upgraded the Mac yet. I had to pick up a bluetooth numeric keypad for my MB Pro because doing the emulation thing was just too painful: too accustomed to keyboard shortcuts. I'm glad so many of them still work.
Here's that shadehouse (still in design mode) I'm working on: you might recognise Alyson:
That was scaling Alyson to who was actually going to be using this shadehouse - we need shade more than glass (greenhouse) as it's semi-tropical here and tends to get quite hot and dry, even in our winter. We're going to be converting most of our growbeds (we have 10) to wicking beds, as there's just too much sinking of the soil as the biomass (green yard waste) from our trees breaks down. Blender has been a useful tool in terms of getting a rough idea of how things work together.

Thread: Blender 3.1 has some amazing features | Forum: Blender
Blender 3.1 sort-of's got me doing the "kid-in-the-lollie-shop" thing these days... forgot just how much fun this was. Blender development is simply in a class on its own. I'm a Musescore user: which is a freeware competitor to music notation software costing hundreds of dollars like Sibelius and Finale and even Dorico... their development of Musescore 4 is incredible, but even it doesn't hold a candle to where Blender has gone.
So, I'm pretty happy with posing figures in Poser. Rendering? not so much. And the cloth-room, er, yeah, not crasy about that either. But POSING is so easy... so I pose my figures in Poser, export to OBJ and then use this awesome (new-to-me-at-least) feature in the Oject Data Properties area... again, it's that little dropdown under the add/delete + and - thing. Workflow is as follows:
* Pose your figure in Poser
* Export as OBJ (your posed figure and the one in Blender must be identical in terms of vertex count or this will not work)
* Import OBJ into Blender (scale up x10, the Object -> Apply -> Scale - which I always do with imported figures from Poser)
* Select the figure that is to receive the pose - customarily in a T-pose at this point
* In the Oject Data Properties area (with the little green flux-capacitor icon), in the Shape Key section select the [ + ] ... it will give you a new shape key entry called "basis"
* Import your posed obj, doing the whole scale x10, Object -> Apply -> Scale thing. Not sure it is strictly necessary, but always good to have like with like
* Select the posed figure FIRST
* Hold down the shift key and select the T-posed figure that is to receive the pose NEXT
* Back in the Oject Data Properties area, click the down arrow and select "Join as Shapes" - the name of the second figure will appear as a shape key
* Delete the posed figure - it has served its purpose
* Select the Shape Key (under "basis") and set the Value to 1
Done!

Thread: Exporting OBJ+MTL with mapped texture calls ?? | Forum: Blender
Your problem is you might be trying to do the entire scene at once. I'd be selecting an item to export from Blender (be sure to tick the Limit to: Selection Only box in the right-hand corner). If your item is comprised of several discrete (non-connected) geometries, I'd separate them and export them that way. Yes, tedious, but at least you'll be able to identify which part of the scene is giving you dramas. Also, be sure to scale to 1/10th size. Poser units are tiny!

Thread: Blender 2.93 LTS Has Been Released! | Forum: Blender
On my Mac as well as on Windows and Linux I've always had multiple versions "installed", Miss B. By "installed", I mean: I had a folder named, say, 'blender279' and one named 'blender283' and so forth, each with all of the files for that version within it.
If you launch Blender using the executable in its respective folder, that version will launch. However, if you go through the actual install process (.msi ??) then that would be the default version that will launch if you double-click on a .blend file.
Hope that wasn't too convoluted an attempt at clarifying this.

Thank you, Lobo. Took a break from Musescore and actually fired up Blender 2.92 after seeing this announcement - which took me by surprise - and started having a play with HDRi. A lot has changed, my-my! One actually has far more control over light direction and the realism... just astonishing.

Thread: Proportional Editing circle | Forum: Blender
Also, in the lower left-hand corner of your work area, you will see a pop-up appear which will give you an idea of the size of sphere of influence of your circle: as you scroll up the numbers next to "Proportional size" will decrease and eventually you will see that circle. That frustrated me no end until I figured out a way to just keep the mouse still and operate the scroll wheel until I could see the circle.

Thread: Blender 2.90 Released! | Forum: Blender
Thank you for the heads-up, MissB. :)
I only just upgraded to 2.8.5. LOL Oh well, on Linux, it's trivial. I've even kept 2.79b around, just in case. Blender Foundation is going from strength to strength... this promises to be a significant upgrade. For someone new to this version (like ME, for example) I think a good thing to have is a cheatsheet, just until the steps to do stuff comes a bit more naturally.

You're very welcome - I made a lot of use of the "pause" button. In another one of his videos I ran into dramas because of a similarly named node: if you do this one, avoid the Converter->Math:Subtract node and use the Converter->VectorMath:Subtract node instead.

One that I use a lot is Greg Zaal's Gaffer, which used to be payware, but is now more like "trialware": you can use it as long as you want, and are asked to "consider" paying for it if you like it. His HDRI Haven has lots of great, free HDRI to use with that addon.

Thread: Interesting new Add-on "Building Addon" | Forum: Blender
Thank you, Lobo and MissB. All I really wanted to do was take what Faveral created - the buildings were essentially facades - and make it somewhat more accessible. An interior that can be perceived from the outside gives a lot more dimension to a structure. If I didn't already have so many irons in the fire - composition / beekeeping / gardening / and still working part-time - I'd probably spend a bit more time with this. It's terribly tempting, of course: been watching where Blender's headed, particularly with 2.90, and it just boggles the mind, doesn't it?

It really seems a bit weird now, but I actually went through the exercise of recreating the mesh for the bistro building in the attached image a few years ago. This took seriously ages... okay, days and days and days! And ... it's still not done. And now, we have this. Content creators for Poser or DS have no excuse anymore - what was once the realm of geniuses like StoneMason and Faveral is now quickly and easily achievable by anyone, quickly, almost effortlessly.

Thread: Love Blender BUT Hate ALL the Short Cuts | Forum: Blender
You might want to YouTube "Blender 2.8 basics Widgets" - that search brought up the first of two CGCookie's free videos on the basics of navigating Blender's interface. Whilst the 2nd video does explain the hotkey (shortcut) approach, it does explain the widget approach as well.
Unfortunately, the really fun videos that explain how to do all the amazingly cool stuff you really want to get to learning are all going to be hotkey-based. I tend to agree with you in terms of learning a lot of hotkeys: I'm getting into this digital audio workstation (DAW) called Reaper and I tend to go to the menus instead of learning the hotkey. However - and I'm 68 - I'm finding the menu approach too tedious for certain tasks and have finally come to realise that 1) almost all of the tutorials for Reaper focus on a hotkey approach and 2) the menu approach for certain tasks is ultimately working out much too tedious.
My gripe with Blender is that I had a decent amount of hotkeys memorised, and then in 2.8x, they "moved the cheese", so I'm having to relearn a bunch.
