I run into it a lot with loading a figure; most of the time, it just requires exiting Poser and restarting it.
Thread: Poser8? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Has it been stated anywhere if Poser 8 is 64-bit? I've looked at the press releases and it is not clear to me. Like many others here, I bought PPro for 64-bit rendering. Scenes that would crash P7 render just fine in PPro's 64 bit engine. At this point, I think it would be silly for SM not to develop P8 for 64-bit; when some budget computers are now coming shipped with 3GB of ram, the mainstream computers will probably be 4+ GB requiring a 64-bit OS very soon.
On a sidenote, I just rebuilt one of my computers with a Phenom II X4 955 (3.4Ghz) and 8GB of ram on Windows 7 64-bit. In a little "bakeoff" with my older rendering box (Core 2 Duo 2.8 Ghz, 4GB Ram, Vista 64), I expected the Phenom II to slightly beat the old C2D box with the extra cores and the clockspeed advantage, but it usually finished rendering the test scenes before the old machine even finished loading all the assets (amounting to 2-3X faster)! I would say the 8GB of memory was key; it is needed for quad core machines to really use the extra cores over a dual-core setup (Windows 7 seems to help a lot too...way less bloated than Vista). All the more reason to make P8 64-bit. For it not to be would be a huge step backwards.
Thread: Who still likes Aiko 3 better than 4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - > Quote - I like the Mil-4 figures but they are extremly buggy, especialy in P7.
So mostly I have gone back to Mil-3 figures.
...hehehe, EVERYTHING'S buggy in Poser 7 ;o). I've gone back to Poser 6 (yup, really). I can set something up in Poser 7 and can't get it to finish a render but I'll open it in Poser 6 and aftre the wrong version number message, it chugs right through the render. For those who are wondering...yes, I applied all my Poser 7 updates and I trashed the preferences file. No go. I'll be waiting for the next service release (if there is one).
As for the mil 4 figures, I've yet to see anything that looks better (or even as good for that matter) than my gen 3 figures. I'm in the process of changing all my clothes for Aiko 4 to Aiko 3 and everything else I like from any other figure ;o). I got licenses for Aiko 3 and Apollo Max last trip. Now it's time for Kali (of Kali and Kelm). Not sure how that will go over, but if there's a license, I'll have to get it...LOL.
Now that I think of it, whenever I start a scene, I always start with a gen 3 figure, Apollo or Kali or Kelm now. Everything else just isn't getting any love these days...hehe.
Laurie
Same here...I just can not warm up to the Gen 4 figures. Not only are they terrible memory hogs, but they just look look so off putting to me...all the A4/V4 characters I've seen basically look alike (enough with the racoon eyed Lolitas already). V4 looks way too cartoonish in her face (complete with 1000 yard stare) to look very realistic, and A4 doesn't look cartoonish/anime enough to really justify calling her "Aiko" (just looks like V4 to me). Their bodies are too stylised and plastic looking. The Gen4s do have a bit better bending and expressions to be sure, but I sorta feel like the Gen4s were a step back in many ways then the Gen3s.

You could try reinstalling the latest graphics driver as it might have been disturbed by a Windows update.
I think it may actually be the graphic driver itself now that I think about it; seems to me it started doing this after I installed the last one. The computer I use it on is a Thinkpad T500 with the "switchable" ATI Radeon/Intel graphics (I usually have the crappy Intel graphic chip turned off and only use the AMD/ATI graphics, but it still requires a driver written for it).

Quote - Isn't there an application that remaps say V3 conforming clothes etc to fit other characters like V4?
Several; Wardrobe Wizard, Crossdresser, etc. In fact, I use them a lot to turn V4 stuff to V3.

Quote - The Poser community, despite what many "Oldsters" remember it being when we first started here, is really a COMMERICAL community. DAZ is THE Big Puba of it all. It is a company and companies need to make money and they do it well creating and selling NEW CONTENT. For as long as there is a market for the stuff it will be availed us. When the demand goes down it will be phased out....like anything out in the open market.
The Poser community is in itself a ravenous community which is hell bent on the "Feeding Frenzy" for the Newest and Greatest that is available....irregardless of the cost. It seesm sometimes especially on some sites, that there is a competition of who can get the newest and greates offerings in their render and posted first. Sheesh! :(
If you are on a Windows machine you are at a real advantage because there are applications made for you that will allow you to convert some of these items to work with other figures. I am not so fortunate being on a Mac.
I can tell you it COSTS a lot to constantly munch on something new DAZ and others spoon out to us. After years of dishing out cash for all this STUFF I can no longer do it. I have so much stuff for Poser both purchased and freebies, I will never be able to use it all in whatever is left of my stupid Poser addicted life!
It seems if you are happy with whatever you got...just keep using it. If you like stuff that is still available out there for V3...GET IT NOW...before the vendors faze it out by removing it from the stores. It is too bad they do that. Despite the GRANDE investment made on all the DAZ conclavve of products up to Mike4 (which I will not spend money on and that is final!) I am still using V2. Got a lot of stuff for her and there were some brilliant clothing items available back when she was "The Premiere" Ticket item I wish I had gotten then.
Now they are no longer available. You would think the vendors would archive that stuff and make it available for dumb sods like me who remembering it wants to get and sell it to us at a fair "Close out" discount bargain bin price. That'll never happen.
I found many V2 items still available at RuntimeDNA..Thanks for that guys!
But anything here at Renderosity or DAZ is Gone the way of the Dodo Bird...of which I am strongly relating to! LOL
I hear you on that. I don't understand why more vendors don't make some older content available to those who want it; the cost of doing so I would think would be minor. I view the "old" figures as being other options, not something that needs to be replaced. Just because V2 or V3 are "old" does not mean they need to be replaced.
Thread: Any XP64 + Poser Pro users here? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I use PPro on my older Opteron 185 Windows XP x64 box and on my newer C2D Vista x64 machines and it works fine on both.
If anything, on XP x64 it seems like it renders a little faster (Vista is pretty bloated), but Vista is more stable. The one killer thing I run into on XP is that PPro does not like to have multiple monitors enabled, it majorly slows done the OpenGL preview, Vista does not have this issue. Since I work on dual 22" screens, I perfer the Vista setup.

I still prefer V3 by a mile; I think she's far more realistic looking, has a better variety of looks and a better base body form to work with. I still search for and by content for V3. Plenty of life left in the old gal yet.
I just can't warm up to V4; I think she looks too anime/cartoonish by default, most of the characters for her all look alike and she has some sort of weird plastic/rubbery look to me (like a digital Bratz doll). Not to mention, the eyes...I can ever seem to shake that 1000 yard stare look with her. And she's a resource pig.
Thread: OT Vista and XP dual boot | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I dual boot XP pro (32-bit) and Vista (64-bit) on all my machines.
It's actually pretty easy to do, the only big thing to keep in mind is that when installing Windows XP on top of an existing Vista install, it will screw up Vista's bootloader, preventing Vista from loading (it will just go straight to XP as XP's bootloader cannot see Vista).
There are a couple of free utilities that will restore Vista's bootloader (I use EasyBCD - just do a google search for it) and set up the dual boot options properly.

Quote - No, I'm a gamer so I'm considering a new card mainly for that reason. But whatever I get, I'd really like to improve Poser's performance in preview mode. I'm not that worried about rendering, since I often render in Vue anyway. But sometimes the process of posing things and getting the scene set up the way I want it can get really painfully slow since Poser 7 and my video card don't seem to agree when it comes to Open GL, the result being that sreed is generally faster than trying to use Open GL.
I would guess that something is not right with your system's drivers then, as the performance on a Geforce 7900 should be much better then Sreed in OpenGL mode.

Quote - > Quote - there should be an option under the HELP menu to see the opengl thats in use. If it refers to a microsoft driver then you have a minimal opengl and using the sreed (?) preview may be better.
Its dependant on your video card drivers . I recently got a nvidia 6200 card that works great Opengl 2.0
Where exactly is this option? I've always had problems with Open GL in Poser 7, and I'd love to get this sorted out if I can.
I'm currently using an nVidia 7900 GS. I've been thinking of upgrading to a 9600 GT. Does anyone have any experience using this card with Poser 7?
It's been my experience that the video card's performance doesn't really affect Poser 7 a whole lot; the OpenGL option is only used in the preview mode, not in rendering. I've worked with P7 on a Geforce 6800, 7850GT, 8800GT and a Quadro 570m, and I couldn't tell much of any difference performance wise between them in Poser 7. If you are thinking of getting the 9600 only for Poser applications, you may be disappointed.

Quote - Did you try turning off IK's before swapping?
yeah, I did, no effect. After some more playing around with it, I found the same effect even in native Poser figures (Simon, Sydney)...what seems to be happening is it is writing the values from the figures body dials some of the effected limbs (shoulders, collars, thighs) limbs...in effect, doubling the morph.... Ockham's Python utility "swap" does the same think (is the built in command a Python script?) again...this works fine in Poser 7 and Poser 6.
I've reinstalled PPro on two different computers (but both on Vista x64) and noticed the same effect....very strange. Am I the only one this is happening to? Seems like a very large bug.
Thread: Poser 7 & Pro OpenGL preview problems | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Update: playing around with the preview render settings, I've found that checking "enhanced multilayer transparencies" makes it display properly, although performance really takes a dive with it on. Again, wondering why this would make a difference if Poser 6 does it correctly. Weird.

I've noticed that It's done this on a couple on a number of different video card configurations (Geforce 6800, 7950GT; 8800GT, Quadro FX 570), and processors (Opteron 185, C2D T7700, C2Q 6600) with 4GB ram. I'm wondering if this is a quirk in Nvidia's drivers or something wrong with Poser's implementation of OpenGL.
Sreed performance is terrible compared to the OpenGL setting; it just seems weird that the older version of Poser will display it correctly on the preview.

Thanks for the tip; I don't see that on my V4, but I may have to redownload and install the ++ morphs...I haven't done anything with V4 in months, so it might have been updated.
